|
| Your Best Crying Scene? Posted: 9/23/2007 11:51:58 PM | Yeah, it was a joke because in the movie he keeps making reference to his ex-girlfriend being dead (when in reality she broke up with him for being such a loser).
“Yeah, she fell off a cliff and died on impact.”

Mine has always been the scene in Blade Runner where replicant Ray Batty (played by Rutger Hauer) is dying . He says:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die"
WHOAH!!!
****. before i could even read the thread and saw the title... THAT was the FIRST scene that came to mind. You have excellent taste. kudos!!!!
Blade Runner = fave movie of all time.

Thanks!!! Blade Runner (director's cut) is near perfect! Certainly one of the all time bests. One thing I didn't say about it is that Rutger Hauer's portrayal of Roy Batty is so remarkable because even though he's been this villain, he unexpectedly shows his emotional side which we, as viewers, don't expect for one: to see, and two: to sympathize with at all.
I love those kinds of actors who can show us their dark disturbing side that we don't want anything to do with and then make us empathize with then...so unexpectedly.
Who needs f***ing romantic comedies to make us cry? Give me something more cerebral, like Blade Runner.

The thing that puzzles me about how good that movie is ...back when i saw it in the early 80's.. i seemed to be the only one who liked it and could never understand why ppl couldn't see the brilliance of the movie. Soooo ahead of its time. people weren't ready.
On one hand, the scene where Roy breaks Mr. Dekkards fingers thru the wall makes you feel like the guy has no heart... but at the same time, he was heart broken of his partner getting shot and was losing his mind. (the scene where he paints signs on his body and howls)
The end is so unexpected and catches you off guard. Right from the moment Dekkard lets go of the ledge and Roy catches him. Even when Dekkard ended up crying himself after Roy let go of the bird and dies with a forgiving smile... it just hits you like "whoa... what the hell just happened here??"
so perfect.

The end of Saving private Ryan....it is just so sad to see that man worry if he has lead a good life.. yup, me too. But also the beginning where he's walking into the cemetary with family and he stops, gasps and then walks towards markers, then goes down on his knees and weeps. No movie has ever made me cry in the beginning and at the end. A very powerful movie.

a particular scene in Forrest Gump The scene where Forrest learns that he has a son and wonders, "if he's like him (me) or is he..." that one gets me more than when he's talking to Jenny's grave under the tree.

Soooo ahead of its time. people weren't ready." You are SO right. Look at the city. Everything makes sense. Rain all the time due to screwing up the planet, incredible billboards, the mix of languages, styles, cultures...yes, ahead of it's time!
At the risk of starting a 'personal' thread, you'd probably (if you haven't already seen it) like "A State of Grace" with Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, John Turturro, Ed Harrris & Robin Wright. One of the most underrated movies ever. Gary Oldman portrays the best character since "Sid & Nancy"
I never cry when watching it but it's always fresh; never gets boring even though you know the story. Penn has a most amazing monologue near the end that really rings true.
"The Departed" is a "A State of Grace" rip off! I just could not enjoy it.

| Your Best Crying Scene? Posted: 9/29/2007 10:03:45 AM | Mine would have to be Cinema Paradisio when the now film director walk in the streets behind the coffin. I cry my eyes out every other time. Just thinking about now is actually saddening.
Green Mile scene when the condemened to death is about to be taken to the chair. Bambi by Walt Disney when the mother is shot.

Mm, no, The Departed is a remake (gag) of Infernal Affairs. Oh how I loathe remakes...
Uh but so I'm not too off topic... well virtually the entirety of the movie A.I. had me pretty choked up, same with Grave of the Fireflies. Ah and the end of City of Angels (the 1998 one, not the terrible Crow sequel), especially the first time when I didn't know it was coming - that was depressing.

Hmmm, I need to see "The Departed" again! It might not have been a direct remake but I'm sure "The Departed" was the movie that made me think they ripped off "State of Grace" in some way. Maybe the style?
Funny you should say you hate remakes. Did you know that "City of Angels" is a rendition of the Wim Wenders masterpiece "Wings of Desire"? Wim Wenders co-authored the screenplay. In my opinion that was a much better film.
Sorry this is definitely way off topic!
Now back to our regular schedule...

| Your Best Crying Scene? Posted: 10/10/2007 1:32:44 PM | I wouldn't say their is a film that never fails to make me cry so I will just mention some that have made me cry and ones that I can remember which make me feel sad or emotional everytime.
1] The Champ starring John Voight as a boxer. I saw this when I was a really young child and I have never cried to any film since like the end scene of this, EVER.
2] I always find the end of The Empire Strikes Back really sad when that sad music starts playing, all this after Luke has just lost his hand and found out that Darth Vader is his father, very emotional to me everytime I see it, all this mixed with my nostaligic thoughts from my Star Wars obsessed childhood.
3] The end of Road To Perdition, similar to The Champ, that John Williams music also makes me sad when it starts playing.
4] Stand By Me near the end when he is sat in the car after he has finished thinking about his childhood.
5] Awakenings when Robert De Niro's character suddenly goes back to just like he was at the beginning and all that efffort that Robin Williams character made for nothing was a little upsetting.
6] I don't know why but I always find the end of Big with Tom Hanks a bit sad when he goes back home after returning to his child body and saying goodbye to his adult girlfriend, probably forever.
7] The end of Terms Of Endearment, all my choices seem to be a bit cheesy.
I've written enough now on this subject, I'm starting feel a lttle sad and nostalgic.

| Your Best Crying Scene? Posted: 11/12/2007 3:34:01 PM | I was watching Armagedon today and I forgot about this, didn't promote any tears but it made the hair on the back of neck stand up: All of the astronuats were going towards the shuttles when Chips son says "Mommy that salesman is on tv", the mother drops the phone then replies "Thats not a salesman ...thats your daddy" just the look on the kids and mothers face. Liz Tyler and Bruce Willis conversation over the video at the end does it too.
