It is illegal but E-bay get around this by being just a third party and not participating in the sale at all.
If it is illegal then maybe the govt should enforce the law (or tighten it). Surely if I allow people to buy and sell stolen [or other illegal] goods on my property I become complicit in their crime...

Since when was it illegal? I know that selling of tickets to certain sporting events are prohibited, but I'm pretty sure that this doesn't apply to concert tickets (though it is frowned upon).

Scalping is illegal, that doesn't stop people from doing it.

No it isn't, it's perfectly legal to buy something and sell it on at a higher price. It may be against the Terms & Conditions of the issuing supplier, but T&C are not legally binding (unless they are actually based on law).

And yes, it's a pretty shitty thing to do, but that's life unfortunately; people buy things and sell them on to make money - that's the whole basis of our economic system so ranting about it is a little bit pointless and stupid.

Oh, and I have some tickets for the London 2012 Music Concert if anyone is interested...

PEDANTRY ALERT

Reselling after using autodialers or cheap chinese labour to procure tickets which are then sold on for profit which doesn't go into the pockets of the musicians who are selling them is exactly the same as copying CD's and selling them.

Whats wrong with copying CD's and selling them ? Isint this what CD factories do ? Bands probably wouldnt make a lot of money if they only sold one copy of every album they made.

Only the reselling of football tickets is illegal - Preventon of Violent Crimes Act. Doesn't apply to other tickets.

As others have said , Venues could be more proactive in how they distribute/initially sell tickets.

It has also been suggested they could invalidate tickets thought to be touted or with the wrong face on them but this could be contested in court as not illegal to transfer tickets so poses them a difficulty. They might have to pay the touted price plus costs to re-imburse an invalidated ticket.

It is a bit of an extreme comparrison in all fairness.

Had enough of what I said being used out of context by people, namely Nouklanc (I'd guess because I called him a tosser.)

My actual quote was in response to

I'm very sorry but if there's a market for these things, let it flourish

There is a market for child prostitutes.
Should we allow them to be sold too?
Just cos its against the law doesn't make it bad ehh?

Just for those who don't have to good a grip on the English language, I was using the extreme example to let a guy of low intellect understand.
Was hoping the outrage he showed at the mention of child prostitutes (As most daily mail readers do) might make him realize there are more vicitms of crime than defenseless children.
Shame it didn't work and he fell back to the "You mentioned child prostitutes" defence.
Wish people would read posts before making a comment.

Edit

is a morally abhorent crime in the sex industry

Best you check your post before commenting on others spelling.
Did you maybe just miss a keystroke?

Only in a public place, and only if it is implicitly done as a business or trade in any other fashion.
Also, it only applies to domestic football matches.

Oh the irony

Strange. Personally I thought it didn't work because you tried to liken an everyday practice which is not a crime to something which is a morally abhorent crime in the sex industry, in some kind of inane attempt to provoke a response.

Oh well, easy mistake to make I suppose.
