I have noticed the OP seems to be trying to stir it up, a comment about "Middle Aged Crazies" and the last post about men not riding on the back seat
First... I am NOT biker bashing at all.... truly!! I totally understand the love of the ride and always have... have often thought of buying another myself and even more so over the last few years .. but honestly.. wondered if "I" was just going through the middle aged crazies myself..
The middle aged crazy comment was meant in fun.. I expect that it HAS to cross women's minds just because it is so stereotyped.. whether it's truly applicable to any one specifically is very individual.. and I know it... no offense and no generalizations intended..
And the backseat comment... was made only because as a rider myself it is not very often I would ever get on the back of someone else's bike... and I admit it.
Just was putting that same question out to other riders.. especially the men who rather think nothing of asking a woman to get on the back of theirs... was maybe a bit of a challenge to tell the truth.. but was also just meant in fun.
No offense to any riders intended...
However.. I could start another argument about how I think BMW's are better than Harleys..... just for fun..

|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/5/2007 5:42:41 PM | | I think men and their Harley's are like women and their horses, same thing, .something between their legs, that's all I have to say about that! | |

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 2:01:22 AM | ^^^ There are cheaper thrills that dont need insurance or combing ! .
I like snowmen | |

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 8:24:11 AM | Why Harleys???
Their American ( ), they are too loud, too heavy, too expensive to buy or fix, and they are still unreliable after how many years of production? I also heard they are half-parts made in China( ). I must admit Harley has smelled the coffee so they are finally using better technology, basically copying rice burners in a lot of ways.
So to me, a Harley only means you have a lot of money to throw away. I'd rather spend my money on travel, paragliding, my kids, donating to charities. Regardless, I sure would like one. They do look nice (some of them). And girls do like hem...
So I got myself a Honda Saber. Looks good as is, reliable, proven technology, best brand name in the industry for durability. And it is relatively quiet.
But to be honest girls, paragliding is much better then riding...

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 8:26:31 AM | ^^^ after that entire rant.... still WANTS a Harley.
There ya go | |

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 9:44:17 AM | I direct my comment to "canada he". Speaking as a person who has owned at least 3 dozen motorcycles over the last 30 or more years I must call you to task. To refer to a Harley as an unsafe and boring ride, good only for straight line riding indicates to me that you have little or no riding experience. Certainly none riding a Harley. There are no statistics to support your claim that Harley's are unsafe when compared to other motorcycles nor is your statement regarding leg guards supportable by stats. Your so called "leg guards" are actually engine guards as no manufacturer would be foolish enough to make the claim that these devices will save your legs in the event of a "get off". By the way, these guards are commonly added to many Harleys. Your reference to falling and "side of the forehead is nonsense as well. Any approved helmet will offer a degree of protection in that regard no matter what brand of bike you ride. I've owned and ridden Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Susuki, BMW, and Harley Davidson. Certainly a given brand configured as a two up long distance road bike is less agile on tight twisty roads than a sports bike. As a Canadian I have lived my entire life in British Columbia and long straight roads are in relative short supply here. If ones objective is to be the fastest vehicle on a given twisty road then one would probably choose a Japanese sport bike. That is obviously not the intention of most Harley riders. Lest you think that I'm a confirmed "Harley", I am not. My present ride is a 1978 Yamaha 400cc.
Speaking to the point raised by Bonnie B. I know exactly what you are talking about and have my own theories. I've heard it said by more than a few riders that they feel their bikes are an extension of themselves which begs a question. What part of you needs extension?
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 10:36:11 AM | a new jap cruiser isn't cheap either these days ,,you have to compair size for size and you will see they are close ,,some Harley's cost a little more because of added options like cruse control and such,,a new Honda can cost more with a GPS system,A BMW even more still ..
,,but you just cant beat the sound of a Harley ...

What part of you needs extension? ^^^ LMAO ...great comment I tend to be a Little prejudice about the vehicles/bikes men drive/ride as defining there personalities or strengths.. I often judge (<<yup judge) a person by what they chose to drive...my bad *I dont like small cars or mini bikes* ((PS Joe cdn... I don't judge a man by the size of his feet or nose - that old theory does not always work !)

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 12:57:11 PM | | I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a contradiction then. I have a large pick-me-up-truck and a small motorcycle. mmmmmm? | |

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 5:38:01 PM | | I just got my first harley on saturday and i couldn't be more proud to own this bike Being a metric rider for many years i have enjoyed the reliability that they have offered but it was always my goal to own a harley and it suits the image that i have always had of myself. I don't care what it costs repairs or other such expenses.I worked hard for my toy . I think i deserve it. I can afford it.Made a promise to myself and i have kept that promise.Thank god for bikes and the people that ride them.Masterfisher | |

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 8:59:54 PM | OP maybe it is the only good vibrations these old geezers can still get between their legs must be deeply a rooted thingy in many a mens psycho makeup. Ever noticed falling male potency, rising horsepower in the toys they drive and some use Harley's cuz the beer gut don't fit between the steering wheel and seat of the Porsche....ever wondered why the handlebars are curved back so far on the bikes???? And of course then there are some who have learned that showing off expensive toys lures in cheap 'n easy gals. See and here you thought all men can't think | |
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 10:58:51 PM | OK.... so the OP may not have started this as a "Biker Bashing Thread", but the above poster just proved my point.......
I know you don't know me or most of the "bikers" that have responded to this thread, and i don't know you, but you have shown your true ignorance in your comments.
My impression of your post is that your comments are just meant to impress the ladies, and you are no better than those you have chosen to attack.
Then again.....maybe it was just a poor attempt at trying to be funny, as i said, i don't know you, and i probably don't want to!!
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/6/2007 11:45:27 PM | I love the movie WILD HOGS!! I bought my dad the dvd cuz I know he used to ride, (back before he had kids and had to sell his bikes). But the movie is so funny. It shows how middle aged men buy these big toys in an attempt to relive their youth. It doesn't help when the vibrations from the vee-twin jiggles their prostate, and they gotta stop to pee every 10 minutes. | |

And of course then there are some who have learned that showing off expensive toys lures in cheap 'n easy gals.
Hey, watch who you're calling cheap 'n easy.......I'm one of those gals who loves to ride on the back of a bike and I take offense at your comment. I'm not even gonna try to explain, cause you'll never understand. It's ironic that amongst those "bikers" you're bashing, I have found more real people who truly care and know how to show respect for others.
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 12:25:29 AM | ^^^Oh well still looking50 one mustn't take life so seriously if you can't wear a smile then the world gets to be a grim and lonely place and btw my commentary wasn't aimed at bikers in particular, but rather generally at things many men around my age do, call it stereotyping if you will, so what? Looks like the shoe fits you, aint it?
So OP to answer the question... hmmm not really sure what it is about 'Men and their Harley's' , perhaps they like that big, clumsy, noisy piece of chrome plated technology (add to it a little bit of the child in a man ) and the feeling of having control of the (horse)power, cuz a Harley is certainly not a a sporty race bike for competition on the track. While I can appreciate the workmanship of a custom Harley I never really liked the bike nor do I like riding it for its poor handling. Edit: toronado expensive toys only include bikes not single them out And yup don't pass judgment before having evidence. I did ride bikes for over 10 years alone and with the "boys" cris-crossing Europe, and for fun motor cross and race track

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 2:50:30 AM | hi imapoet I read your post two times and it seems that you somewhat agrees to my point. Let me know if I still needs to prove the point of safety etc. You been riding bikes for over 30 years so you should know about all this, I don't want to explain it to you. 30 years is a long time and if you can't find out all those facts by yourself then I don't think you would agree to any point that I make here.
Also I don't think you can ride where I have driven bikes, scooters, bicycles, cars, jeeps. You would need atleast a week long training. Use the internet for research, its your friend.
I'm not bashing anyone here ..just trying to save a leg or two.

| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 3:34:28 AM | The motorcycle rider is the modern day cowboy, on an iron horse. It's instant cool, the clothes, the sound, slipping through the traffic, topping the hill and seeing ,,,,,,,, everything. No kids, radio, TV, stop for a coffee whenever, kickstand down next to the door, and we are special. Not everyone wants to or can do what we do. People in cars are in a cage, they need a lot of space, they are in a race to get somewhere, sometime soon and we are just going.
We know we are cool because if you disagree, WE DON'T CARE.
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 5:18:47 AM | | ^^^ Being an owner of said motorcycle I will argue with the cruiser above me. It is NOT instant cool when you buy a bike. Cool is... just that cool is, it is not something you can purchase nor fake because you have bought a motorcycle. True cool is the ability to handle any situation thrown at you and never let em see you sweat. Cool is being cool, not a tool... nor a fool. Cool can't be bought, nor even taught. You either are cool or you're a wanna be........ | |
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 5:42:57 AM | Cool for me.... is whatever.... I want it to be.... the road is open.... my time is free.... the bike is mine.... it runs real fine.... I can go riding.... anytime..... I love to hear the rumble... and sweeter is the roar.... people who say different.... only make me snore..... two wheels and a motor..... full tank of gas.... call that not cool..... well just kiss my .... | |
|
| Men and their Harley's Posted: 9/7/2007 7:32:24 AM | kiss your what? A cool guy would not have eluded to it... but would have said...
sister?
bum?
DOT approved helmet?
Aftermarket wanna be pipes?
Not cool ass? | |
