I think this whole body type thing is meaningless. Either you find me attractive or you don't and at the end of the day it really doesn't matter to me.

I gave up trying to classify my body type. I wear size 4 or 6. Some people call me skinny, some slim, some just right, some average . . . There's so much emphasis on body type in US and other societies and I don't feel like contributing to it. I have a couple body shots up so you can judge for yourself. If it's that big of a deal to a guy then we have different values and I don't want to date him.

I also gave up trying to classify myself. I post pics and if they don't like what they see, then that's fine. Really, I don't like posting that information either. I think I'm a BBW, but I know some of the people I've dated that were fine with my weight and looks would have never ran a search for BBW, because the image they think of for BBW is still another 150 lbs heavier than me. Also, posting a weight doesn't help. People all carry their weight differently and some have more muscle than others (muscle being heavier).

With the not posting a full body shot, maybe they are hoping the person will read their profile first to see if there's a personality compatibility. So many people go looks first then personality, but I think if one knows the personality first, then the person seems more attractive once they do see them. Maybe you should email that person a few times, and if you're still interested, then ask for more information.

I think it is impossible for a lady to give an accurate description of herself, given the influence of friends, family and the media.
To help alleviate this serious problem, I'm offering free of charge, a half hour body assessment, complete with certificate of authenticity. We all have our crosses to bear, and being an expert in female body assessment carries it's own responsibilities.

The whole 'body type' is pretty hard. I mean I personally am about a size 6-8 depending on the store. Technically that is below what is actually average in Canada and the US (I believe average is about a size 12 or so, but anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I've also noticed that there are a lot of women out there who put average who are definitly in the 'few extra pounds' or even BBW category, but also women who put themselves in BBW when they should only be a few extra pounds, or women who put a few extra pounds when they should be average. Adding to my own dilema of what to put is the fact that after being a size 2 for most of my life in the last few years I've gained weight (metabolism slows down in your early 20's and add to that the stress of university and the poor eating habits I developed being at school from 8:30 am until well after 10 at night as I worked there in addtion to going there and I stopped going to the bar 3-4 times a week where I would dance for 3-5 hours straight). And I'd like to lose a few lbs. So even though in terms of my weight, BMI, body fat percentage (had that measured by a professional about a year ago), and clothing size I am below average, should I be putting a few extra lbs because I'd like to lose a few? Kinda makes me think I should just put prefer not to say so I don't have to deal with it!

My BMI is 22 or 23. I am sometimes fit and sometimes not. I can swing an axe or shovel dirt better than most men and for much longer. I have a strong core born of years of tossing bales of hay and shovelling snow and chopping wood and working in forestry that is sometimes covered in a layer of "soft". I'm a size 7/8 (or a 6 depending on which label is trying to stroke my ego into buying their line that season).

NONE of the POF choices work for me. Slim is fine but not an option here. In my head I'm carrying a "few extra pounds" but when I see the people that use that in their profiles, it doesn't fit so...

I don't care. I typically show up for a date and find out that the guy's version of 6'2 could be challenged by one of Snow White's dwarves...

Matters not in the long run. Meet in person and figure it out.

I agree with the people who said other options should be available.

I'm a curvy girl... so ... either curvy or voluptuous should be added to the choices.

Well if there are so many other adjectives we'd like added to describe body type, I think what we really need is just one more option:

If you don't find the category in the list, just go with prefer not to say and describe a brief desciption of your physical self in the about you area. For admirers that simply glance at the simple things on the top of a profile, they are just racing through profiles without regard to what they want anyway

most women lie about their weight. i know because i am 5'5 and weight about 120. last time at the docs i was 118.5 and i am thinner then those that claim to be lighter. i wear a size 0 or girls 14. when i was 93lbs i lied and said i was 105 because i was sick of being refered to as having an eating disorder. truth told there really is no classification for me on here. guys do it too personally ur what i think of as athletic they should add a section to the men saying meat-head.

I put prefer not to say because I am slimmer than "average" but I don't consider myself "thin" - simple as that. I wish there was a "slim" option.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I, too, wouldn't consider myself "average", but also wouldn't consider myself to be "thin". Therefore, I prefer not to say, as well!

I think this whole body type thing is meaningless. Either you find me attractive or you don't and at the end of the day it really doesn't matter to me.

Again, someone took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't agree more. This is the second reason why I prefer not to say. :-)

As far as my own body type, I Do have that listed in my profile. But the complication comes into when I look towards a potential mate. I'm not particularly picky in his physical shape, but rather if he can partake in the same activities as I do.

Me being so small, I have trouble with certain things, working cattle, lifting heavy objects, etc. It's nice to have a man that can assist with tasks like that.

As far as the ladies not posting it, if they are ashamed of how they look, then perhaps they need to do something to change the way they FEEL about themselves. And that's not necessarily loosing or gaining weight, that may be looking inner, for something that gives them confidence to feel happy no matter what way they are.

There are men that prefer a stocky, athletic, skinny, or average gal, I tend to believe that no matter what color your hair/eyes, how much you weigh, or how tall you are, if a person finds someone they really click with, then all of those things will fall by the way-side.

I prefer a guy around 215# and about 6' tall, but that doesn't mean I will not notice a guy who's 5'8 and 170# neither... What says the most to me, is how they take care of themselves. General hygiene, and if they have the energy to get outside and enjoy life...!

Personally I would be more creeped out at someone posting a picture of themselves with no shirt on showing off for the camera than someone preferring not to say...

i got to agree wit the author here... prefer not to say gives an indication that either its an unattracive body, or the person doesnt like their own body, which is even worse cause it has low self esteem issues, and i kinda dig confident women... anyway.. i recently got chattin to a girl on here wit prefer not to say body type.. she had a pic of her face.. very beautiful.. but afer a while of chattin to her i seen a full body shot and she was pretty large.. now im not the shallow type per say, but im just not attratced physicaly to larger women.. just the way it is.. i like slim petite women.. it was misleading. if ur in a bar or a club or in the supermarket u get to pretty much see the whole person... the big drawback here is people can pick and choose their best and worst shots.. POF should also like some women said, give more body types to choose from.. but it would be a lot easier if people just put body shots up... now i dont have a body shot posted on my profile because i recieved so many comments that i was being vain, that i decided to take it down but send one if anyone wanted to see one.. just in case poeple decided to say practice what u preach

: Prefer not to say. THAT just means that they are to big or to fat. that is a good choice because it covers all of the biggies like average, athletic, a few extra pounds and those bbw. those catagories are all big ones.

47 and all that knowledge to share? ...wow a regular waterfall of intelligence, maturity and positive mental attitude all wrapped into one vibrant stagnant individual of epic proportion.

some people put 'prefer not to say' because they believe they don't need to fit a mold to be happy and i agree with them. why do we as human beings always have to catagorize everything? why should i have to fit a mold that wasn't made for me in the first place? my body type is only 0.000001% of who i am and if a person can't be bothered to see past that... then they're not someone i really want to be around

I think the whole body image/size preoccupation is garbage. What we want is someone to have fun and companionship with. If you are planning to take your lady on serious outdoor activities - well fair enough to ask for an appropriate fitness level. Otherwise I really don't understand the whole obsession. Whatever her body size/shape if she loves you, does it really matter?

I would think "prefer not to say" means "none of your damn business" and "see me as a human being first". I could not get over recent comments because I put athletic in my description but have a rounded face - I got assumed fat! Unbelievable! Grow up!

You, my dear, are one million percent CORRECT! I wish there was an option to choose "Why the heck does it matter?!", but there isn't. :-(

sorry girls but attacking me in no way covers up the fact " prefer not to say " almost always means what you think it does.

What i don't understand is if all the fat ladies are so happy and thrilled about being BIG, why bash people who are not into them.

i have yet to see big fat guys bash people and cause trouble like the fat women do.
maybe the guys are smarter and more mature .

now all you big ol ladies play nice and have a great wkend. CYA
