Worst dressed & Best dressed First Dates!

Please tell me if I'm being overly sensitive here:

One first date or meet and greet had on a plain, $7 walmart tshirt and shorts with slide sandals. (Early Evening Saturday for coffee at an area with outdoor cafes and nice area to walk around)

The other guy had on nice shorts and shoes with a sleeveless workout shirt. (Met at lunch time in a nice area that has an outdoor mall and cafe's etc.)

It just took a little of the wind out of my sails from the start to think that a) my date didn't care enough about wanting to impress me to at least try to look presentable or b) that they really didn't know what was appropriate or would be received well. I mentioned it to some of my girl friends and they were pretty horrified.

To set the stage a little, it's summer in Miami, so I understand needing to accommodate the heat. I was just really surprised that they didn't go to the effort to put on a collared shirt at least. And I thought that sleeveless for men was just not done outside of the beach or the gym.

To the same dates I wore a casual skirt and blouse to one and a sun dress to the other. Not fancy, but I tried to look nice.

Any thoughts? Am I out of line, are my expectations too high?

I just usually wear khaki shorts and a band t shirt, I'm always clean but I never really dress up. Thats how I am if she likes it cool, if not peace.

Miami blue eyes, IMO, you are being a little oversensitive. It is summer here in Toronto, and today we had over 90 degree heat a plus humidex factor. If I was meeting a guy for something casual, shorts would be perfectly fine. If we were going out for dinner, maybe something more upscale would be appropriate, but just meeting for a drink at a bar, I would be OK with shorts. I'm sure it is much hotter in Miami than it is here, so give the guy a break and let him chill in his shorts.

Best dressed was when I was 24. The guy came to pick me up in a black suit. He had black hair and was carrying red roses! I think I fell in love the minute I saw him Ok, I didn't really fall in love with him, but he sure looked hot! We had a few good dates.

Now my current bf, I really don't remember what he was wearing, he just looked hot. He had his sunglasses on and looked like a movie star. I almost turned my car around when I saw him standing in the parking lot! Yeah, he was just so gorgeous! sigh

Best-dressed date in recent history, he had on khaki pants, white shirt and a beautiful tie and he looked fabulous. OK, he had just come from work for a lunch date and probably has to dress like this for work, but still! It was great!
{if he is reading this, I hope I just won some brownie points}

First REAL date, as opposed to a coffee date: It can take me over 90 minutes to get ready to walk out the door. But the bath involved water and soap, the teeth are brushed, and the hair has product and brushed. Cool weather I wear boutique jeans, the shoes are clean and polished, and the socks are clean, no holes, and they match. A nice shirt (button up) and a real leather or velvet jacket. I am a 'Tie Free Zone" so there may be a good scarf draped around the neck - no jewelry, no cologne. I feel at my best that way, so if the date were to sour - I'm still feeling good.
