I saw him last summer at a neighbor hood fest.. My oldest son was with me and has been playing guitar since hes been 7 ( hes now 13) & I love it that he knows all these old rockers from back in my day.
I told him a story of my 1st Jethro Tull album ..Cat Scrath Fever.... ..How I was in 6th grade walking down the street w my friends thinking I was so cooool......little did everyone know I had Shaun Cassidy album underneath! lol

^^^Umm, sweetie... i think that 'Shaun Cassidy' album influenced the 'Tull' album you were holding more than you realize !.... "Cat 'Scratch' Fever" was/is by the awesome Ted Nugent, not our 'Jethro Tull'..... but go get a copy of "Benefit" or "Living in The Past" and give it a listen, you (& your son should like it)

I'm a mandolin player and though it can be used as a classical instrument I have a different genre. Still, Ian Andersen playing Bourre on the flute by J.S. Bach rocks my house.
Great version on youtube.

I'm not doubting you; but, from the recent live dvd's I've seen of Tull, it seems as though Ian has lost his voice, especially on the rocking songs. The music still sounds great, but have they ever considered getting a vocalist to tour with them?

See them a bunch of times and Ian's voice is not as strong but heard robert plant in the last 30 years...lol. Great band in the early90's they blew up their amps and I was hanging out at the only store who had that type in stock. So since I was part of the regualrs that hung there, the owner asked me if I wanted to run amps down to tull for a 530 sound check it was 4:45 and I had to fight rush hour philly traffic. So I arrive and this 300 6-6 guy(reminds me of the guy from the green mile) stops my car and says in a hostile manner were you going, expecting a hassles ,getting ready to be told to get lost from his less than happy expression. I sayI have amps, he cuts me off smiles and say come this way sir were expecting you , I start unloading the car and the crew refused to let may carry a thing thanking me tell me to just relax. All i can say is the crew and band treated me like royality. the road managers name was frank willey gave me his cell phone ( back when cell phones were not ubiquitious)to call all my friends and tell them there were tickets at the box office for them, I made 2 calls and thats all,....he said call 20 if you want to any one you know . Great show and time and most amazing of all Ian broke his leg the week before and did the show from a wheel chair.

Songs From the Wood is my favorite JT album by a pretty wide margin. Pibroch (Cap in Hand) is one of the most emotionally intense songs ever, while Hunting Girl is about as heavy as they have ever rocked.

OP, even though Aqualung is their most famous (and best album) I don't think that Tull came to the forefront until,"Bungle In The Jungle" and "Skating Away",which unfortunately got them into the top 40 crap!
Aqualung was the first song that I experienced(73-74),besides the Beatles, that sent me spiraling to my "Benefit" which was some "Stand Up" music. So what if my brain is as "Thick As A Brick",it's helped me perform as the"Minstrel In The Gallery".
I wonder if the Blair Witch listens to "Songs From The Wood"? I'm totally "Bursting Out"(live) with feelings of peace and love. So,let's please not start a "War Child"!!!
Just remember,"You're never too old to Rock and Roll, but you're too young to die!"
PEACE

Shoutout to Metallica("One")for second place in Best Heavy Metal performance!!!

Saw Jethro Tull in April and they did bring in a vocalist ~ the guy who is 'Ian Anderson' in a UK Jethro Tull tribute band ~ he was dressed as Ian used to dress but had the most awful wig! great flautist too and sounded like Ian used to .
photos I took at the gig can be found on http://www.komodorock.com/live-photos/live-photos/jethro-tull%3a-live-photos-from-the-pavilion,-bournemouth-200804225317/

Where did all these hot "chicks", come from all of a sudden who like Jethro Tull? Growing up in NY, the concerts were 90-95% dudes. The only babes went to a Bon Jovi show or Poison (If only they knew???)

'Cry you a song' is my favorite song by tull.
i think, aside from the brief riff in Anchorman that will ferrell does on his yazz flute solo, which btw, nobody EVER gets (kids these days!), jethro tull is too overlooked these days.
and that pirate dude f*ckin ROCKS on the flute!!
