I think that next time I will tell them that I am an internation detective for interpol or something like that and my job is to find scam artists on the internet and send them to jail. Think that would work?

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 10:29:42 AM | While not from a dating site, I posted a room for rent on the web, and recieved a reply - the 'girl' wanted to take the apartment, site unseen, and said her employer would pay for one years rent. She wanted to know more about it, so we corresponded a few times. She said she couldn't wait to get back to california - first red flag - the apartment is in Toronto Canada. When I mentioned this, she said she would be ok with commuting - 3000 miles!!!!! When I pointed this out, there never was a reply about it. Then her employer was going send over more money than what was covered for the rent, and I was to return the remainder to her for moving expenses. I had read about this earlier, so realized it was a scam. You would think they would do some kind of research into the area they are answering to, as that is when you start to realize there might be a problem

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 10:34:49 AM | | Op: Be careful of ANY fast paced, or instant, relationship sought. That should take some time to know each other first. I had two guys at once pull that scam on being in trouble, stranded somewhere in Africa and needed money to get out of there. I told them both I wasn't born yesterday. One guy "disappeared" the other I had to block. He claimed to love me and didn't even know each other and never had even met..block, delete those kind in a hurry. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 10:43:25 AM | | I've gotten several Russians and a few Nigerians. I answer them if I'm feeling bored. The pictures have to be of models; they calim they barely have a pot to urinate in, but they have such fine clothes and manicured nails. They claim to love me after a few letters, but they never get anything from me. Even if I had the money they want they'd never get it. I could never trust a woman who'd be interested in me. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 11:31:27 AM | I guess we see all kinds of scammers on dating sites, always have to have some bad apples for some reason. It's true that there are many red flags!! Falling in love in the first week. needing money !! my favorite is when their stories contradict them. I like to look for the flaws and then after a while when I get fed up,I show them where they went wrong just to see how far they are willing to go.You would be surprised!!!
I have 2 women that we have been emailing for 2 weeks now, they are both in Las Vegas and not once did any of us mention falling in love or money. We just enjoy corresponding to each other and wish we could be closer so we can talk face to face.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 4:40:13 PM | I was e-mailing another (lady?) back and forth from Russia. Just because i was bored and wanted to see what would happen. Every other day she would send me another picture of herself. And yes, they got more revealing with each one. Just out of the blue, i went back to her original posting, profile, and picture. Seems the hot red head with deep brown eyes lost 5 years of her life. And she became a blonde with blue eyes. I thought those types of things only happened on Star Trek. Well, i was born at night. But it was not last night. I blocked her. And just when the pictures were getting good. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 4:54:42 PM | There are the same scams from men on all of the sites. I have had them from Match.com, Yahoo, date.ca and lava. I have had them live in the UK , USA , Italy and Spain ; they are usually widowed or divorced b'cause he woman cheated on him and he is heartbroken. They usually have a kid or two that lives with their mother in some other country, most of the time they are self employed contractors and have to go to Nigeria for a job of some sort. You can always tell by the way they talk, not the usual english lingo and were usually just about to give up on finding someone and all of a sudden they found your profile and you know the rest. I only got to the money part on one occassion and he was building a home for someone in Nigeria and wouldn't go unless they put the money in his account first, which of course they did just before he was going to come and visit me for valentines day. He was going to the bank to get money orders to take with him to Nigeria, I suggested he might want travellers cheques or something else. Low and behold when he got to Nigeria they wouldn't cash money orders so wanted to know if I could send him some money until he could make some other arrangements. I had already told him that I had been taken by a guest for $3000 in phone bills and I had to borrow money to pay it(which was true), just in case he was going to play the money card. He still asked me to send him whatever I could to get him by. Then I told him I knew all about the scam and how pathetic they were for preying on naive women. End of that story, but I do have a web site address where a lot of them seem to get their photos from and when I find it I will post on this thread

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 5:07:31 PM | ~ You did NOT win any Microsoft Lottery or Email lottery ~ You did not really become next of kin to some anonomous rich businessman from Nigeria or Zimbabwe, that died in an accident (they ran out of air crashes last spring...) ~ You will NOT get a free laptop if you pass on an email to twenty people or sign up at some website, ~ and that hot Nubian princess IMing you from Nigeria and wants to cyber with you is not really interested in you alone.. she has five or ten other guys on the hook and at least one of them is going to be desperate enough to beleive her lies and send her money after 3 IMs.
And now to be serious for a moment: a few of the fellas I met here already (I'm new too) have told me that some of the ladies they've met are interested in their income and assetts... I'd say to be careful of them too. Don't let on about how much you earn... Gold diggers are everywhere.. You dont' want to be anyone's sugar daddy and have them milk you for everything you have! If you do, go to sugardaddy.com
Me? I've been meeting guys that seem to be unemployed, out of work, on disability and that kind of stuff. Do I look like someone's nursemaid or sugarmomma? Not even a cougar (but could be in my future) ,
Just don't fall for all this nonsense... and don't take up with long distance-online relationships... they seldom work out. Someone is bound to get hurt or used or something.
Peace and stuff, A~*

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 5:19:36 PM | This was just on Oprah last week.
he was building a home for someone in Nigeria and wouldn't go unless they put the money in his account first, which of course they did just before he was going to come and visit me for valentines day. He was going to the bank to get money orders to take with him to Nigeria,
I saw this on Oprah too.. in the same show:
..one sent me a check and if i weren't smart enough i would have deposited it into my account... see i was smart enough to inquire about the check that i recieved at the bank....i found out it was a fake ...bogus check ....therefore i would have been charged a fee for a bounced check ...you see you have to be much smarter than the next person male or female and read into what they say and do ...otherwise you would be the one getting screwed in the end.
I usually never watch Oprah, but I was bored that day. Now you know, if it's on Oprah, it HAS TO BE A SCAM!!

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/11/2007 6:46:56 PM | There is actually a yahoo group that is so amusing it is sad that is dedicated to all these romance scams, I cannot beleive that people still fall for this garbage after they have been warned time and time again. I get them sometimes from men that are supposedly from the US but working overseas or whatever and usually by the time they get to the part of "lovely lady you are a rose in my day and I would be pleased to make your meeting" (note the horrible grammar), I can tell right away
But just for fun go and read this group or join if you have to, it will provide hours of laughs at the sad losers that lose everything and I am sorry but I feel no sympathy for anyone that pays their life savings to a total stranger they met online. I wouldnt even do that for a real life partner and no way in heck would I give a red cent to a stranger I have never met, no matter what they said

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/12/2007 9:40:57 AM | I can't say I would find it fun to read and laugh at people's stories or how they were by these creeps. Personally, I would not give money, fly to another province/country or even drive 2 hours to see someone I really didn't even know. There are people out there who are naive and maybe don't know of all the things that go on, could be lonely or heartbroken and would love to believe that someone really cares about them the way these scum balls portray themselves. To say that you have no sympathy and should read their stories to get a laugh, its just cold hearted to get you entertainment from someone elses suffering and misery.

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 8:03:19 PM | I just tell them the truth, that I am seeking employment, am a member of a union, and that I am taking care of my stepfather full-time. They drop me in a heartbeat.
But of course, family is very important to them. They might as well just run a credit check, and I in turn should just ask them "How much?"

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 8:18:39 PM | | Yeah my advice is be careful because there are alot of foreign people who use these dating sites to try to illegally get ways in to our country.I also have heard this from several men I have talked to and the sad thing is it creates enough of a trust issue that those of us that are on the site for legitimate reasons have to deal with the backlash of these foreign prostitutes and that is the only way you can view them for the way they try scamming guys that are truly wanting a real relationship.Another bit of advice turn them in to the website people and also law enforcement and have them look in to it.Law enforcement has technology in their technology crimes units that can sometimes thwart attempts from people like that by tracking them and making them accountable for their actions. So sorry you had to deal with such nonsense and feel some of these websites need to screen it's members a little better to avoid innocent people being suckered in. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 8:22:41 PM | Loyal T,that one guy sounds like a guy I encountered who claimed he was an engineer and had a project in Africa and had to use all of his money to secure the contract and had the nerve to ask me being a single mom to float him some money.I also had to block this guy because of his supposed undying love for me,lol. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 8:30:49 PM | | Yes there is something you can do alain 2007,first report this to the site you are on and second to ensure something is done report it to your local technology crimes unit in your police department.I am taking courses to get my associates degree in Criminal Investigations and the technology crimes unit deals with situations of this nature and have the resources to follow through and track where all the activity is originating from in order to deal with it. | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 8:43:22 PM | It happened to me also, a guy who is an engineer and from London and then he went to nigeria to built a hospital and heave been communicating with me, by the way he is very handsome and made me feel so special. Then all of a sudden, one of his worker had an accident and he has to provide him financially in the hospital. He tried to borrow money from me, asking 1000.00 dollars, and i told him no dice and he was so mad and told me that I am stingy. That's the end of that. Then there comes another one, finally I told him that if he is one of the scammer, he wont get any money from me, he quit e-mailing lol | |

| Scams from women on dating sites Posted: 9/14/2007 9:01:48 PM | Hello cbm212, I don't know how to tell you this, but plenty of women in Plenty of fish make first contact. I am areal woman and have made quite a few first contacts with guys.... unfortunately they are "aloof" and so yeah.. I can't be as eager any more to make contact with guys that don't have the time of day. So why are they here? this is a difficult medium to begin with, and open to misunderstandings and misconceptions, misreadings and mishaps... I don't really see the point any more. and some people say that cats are "aloof"? heck, my kitties are receptive and loveable... the majority of male profiles say they want the woman to contact them.. ummmm... shy women might not, but self-confident women might... it goes both ways... Not all women saying hi to a guy on this site, she making the initial contact, is a con artist from Nigeria!!!
....2)They always make first contact...I have never seen a real woman make first contact..
