This is a great site and the creator should be congratulated for thier admirable idea...
We may or may not ever find a date here but we at least can make online friends and recieve helpful advice from people that truly wish to help.
If we wish this site to get more productive then its up to all of us here to carry on the tradition. Spread the word how much better this site is than all others. The biggest selling point is that it's free what better incentive than that to get others onboard??? | |

I mean the woman always have no problem picking from a list of emails and the guys get spamed by hookers, cyberbots and millions of Rusian woman that desperately want to come to America.
Thankfully I havent had those problems yet on this site. ;) | |

There are just as many nice people here as on those paysites and btw, yes, some of those emails you get are lures, set up so you get hooked and end up paying to use their email service. | |

Then try "100% free personals"
Do you see this site at the top?
Do you see it maybe buried by a thousand other sites that all claim the same thing?
I imangine that this site WILL become big in time. I honestly think this site will slowly gain a large membership, and those hits will drive this place closer to the top of a search.. Which in turn will snowball how fast it grows. It might even get big enough to get paying banner ads (and I would have no problem with advertising alone).. as long as they never turn on us and ask for our credit cards. (lol)
I find this place is FAR better than the free chatrooms... I much prefer forums over chat. | |

Posted: 10/18/2004 7:39:32 PM | Well, I've also been using lavalife, and I have to say this place has it's points, but it could be better.
One thing that I do like from lavalife is that it tells you when the person was last online, like DayDreaming mentioned. The fact that I can search on it is key, because it lets me skip people who don't actually use the site anymore. You can also save searches so that you can run the same search later.
Other than that, I'd have to say that the only thing you're lacking is a nice design. Hmm. A nicer chat area might be a good idea too... I don't much care for html-based chat rooms. Maybe add a java or flash interface to your chat room? (preferably the same room, so that you keep html support) | |

Posted: 10/19/2004 4:26:49 AM | I have tried several pay sites, and one other (now defunct) free one. I think I have met people off of just about everyone of them I tried. I've had good dates, and I've had bad dates. But that happens with off-line dating as well. Obviously I didn't meet 'the one' on any of those sites, but I did have a few turn into decent, but short relationships.
One good thing is that I have learned to spot BS instantly. But there are a lot of good people on all sites. Many paysites tend to have more people on them simply because they can afford to advertise. I like the idea that FLGriffen posted in another thread. Give POF some free advertising in your city by taking out an ad yourself. There are several places where you can place a fairly inexpensive ad that would be cheaper than paying for other sites.
BTW~ I have even tried an actual dating service. But my experience with that was horrible, and much more expensive than on-line pay sites.
This post turned out to ramble a bit more than I intended, but I thought I might share some of my experiences with you all. | |

Posted: 10/19/2004 1:57:17 PM | ugh. don't get me started on dating services. I've used two of them and they both sucked. They rake men over the coals moneywise and all of them have a serious shortage of women - especially those who aren't 45 and divorced*.
*No offense meant, but when I was 20 that wasn't what I was looking for. | |

Posted: 10/19/2004 2:16:07 PM | I pay for 3 sites and use this one too. One of the ones I pay for is $49.00 a month. It is supposed to be scientificaly (sic) oriented to help you get the best match. So far it is no better than Yahoo @ 19.95 or the other @ 9.95.
On the one, i get swamped with 25-35 year old russian girls. I am 48 they sure as heck don't want me for fun or for my looks. | |

Posted: 10/19/2004 5:33:14 PM | Shucks I remember puting a profile up on Yahoo personals way back when it was totally free.. (years ago). Yea I got a ton of replies, and pictures too. Most letters were from Russian woman that described everything from how many liters they drank in water daily to their height in centimetors... despite the fact my profile stated I seeked a single female from my home state of Kentucky. I also got slamed hard by what I call cyber-hookers... the ones that use the bot programs to answer all ads, and a real person starts typing back as soon as they get a reply. One girl sent me several attractive pics of herself- ALL WITH HER HEAD CUT OUT! - Yea.. it took me awhile, but I guess some of these girls are too scared to even send a picture of their face along with their breasts and legs. :) Of corse many of them had their own sites full of pictures... and popups for your credit card #.
I feel most guys wisen up pretty quickly... I think its mostly the newbies to the internet dating game that get snaged up with the bots and credit card only sites. I think the Russian woman are on the up in up... but thats an extreme risk for men and woman to take. Can you imangine all the $$ it would cost flying around the world? Shesh...
I also had a female online friend once get taking bad from a male she met online. Im not sure if it was a pay site or not. She fell HARD for this man. He was a very wealthy business man. He sent her tickets he bought so she could meet him in towns he visted during business trips. She was ready to marry this man of her dreams. She was in that state of love where people are at a risk for roaming into uncoming traffic... (as in unaware of anthing else in the world) I cant remember what tiped her off.. But after about a year she learned his secret: #1: He was married. #2: He had dozens of other woman that he charmed in the same way. All the women thought they were the only love of the mans life... At one point they managed to get ahold of each other somehow.. He had over ten that they knew of.... So, although I feel men get used more often via online dating... I do know that woman get burned too.
Bottom line is: We dont need to PAY a service fee for any of this. In the end we always take our chances in new meets. | |

what you need to do is start looking for non-American-raised ladies. I hate to paint a stereotype here, but I've found that women raised in different cultures look for different things in men. Chinese girls, raised in China, tend to have much... I don't want to call it a simpler view, but the ones I've known and been with have all been happy to have a man who's hard-working and treats them with love and respect. Everything after that is just bonus.
And they won't hit on you. Hit on them. We'll always be the pursuers. no matter how much we wish it weren't so. | |

And don't forget that if you are not hearing from the ones you want to hear from, that you put your "other" email address in there so that they can atleast contact you in return. I have had so many men write to me, and ones that I really wanted to say hey back to.. but no contact information and I was not a paying member.. so that left any communication out... bummer..
