Any Psychic TV fans here?

I recently started checking out some of their stuff cuz I was a fan of TG, so I figured I'd see what Genesis did after TG broke up. The few videos I've seen is some reeeeeeeeally weird stuff, but I totally dig (but also totally can kinda understand why they were investigated as a cult).

what are you calling bizarre? as someone who has a degree in music, and was a professional musician for years, there arent many kinds of music that put me off. I respect that people's tastes differ and that being interested in any kind of music is a positive sign to start with. Two things might put me off...

-"songs" that have demeaning lyrics toward women or screaming instead of lyrics.
-someone who insists on having only ever what they want on the CD player or who criticizes everything I like.

As a musician, I know musical skill when I hear it, but that doesnt mean I prefer that music necessarily. Likewise, the flip side of that is, just beacuse you dont prefer a style of music doesnt mean that the band or player isnt good.

Checked out Throbbing Gristle's 'Discipline' and found it to be an exercise in pseudo avant-garde affronting. If you ask me, it doesn't even qualify as conceptual art, and I had to 'fast-forward'. Upon seeing the frontman don a guitar, I resumed play only to chortle to myself when the guitar made no perceivable contribution to the irritating wall of sound they seemed to be half-heartedly producing. If they were trying to make a point, I missed it- mildly amusing nonetheless, but I'd much rather listen to an opera.

I've produced more interesting stuff myself using a Roland RE-201 Space Echo, two cheap turntables, a Boss Flanger pedal, a four-track, and tape recordings of electronica compiled using an Amiga 500.

Throbbing Gristle's 'Convincing People' held more appeal for me, and I thank you for drawing my attention to a segment of music I was previously unaware existed.

Taste in music is more important to some than others. I'm always checking out the new and different. It's very important to the OP, and also to me. BTW, great thread! I don't know if I could hang in a LTR with someone who was out of it musically, and thanks for a lot of new musical directions to try...

Those aren't my personal favorites, although I've heard of half of them. Personally, when I see a guy with unusual music taste, I think that's cool. My own taste is unusual for my age, so I know how hard it is to find someone on the same level. Good for you for being unique. And, when you find that next girl who gets excited about your unusual taste, try to keep her around ;)

It's sort of an endurance piece. I know when my band covered it live as our set's finale, I was only able to make it through about 4 minutes worth before nearly collapsing from exhaustion. And "affronting" is a very good description of it.

It's primative and tribal, and appeals in a different way from "music". For me it is almost like it fills a different psychological need or desire. It's fun to lose oneself in the beat and rhythm. One of my friends' band, OLoF NiNe has a live concept album revolving around subtleties within pattern variation and emergent processes. It's not "music" as one typically thinks of it, but it is very fascinating none-the-less.

But speaking of bizarre music, man, i've become a huge Sopor Aeternus fan lately. I just realized that over the 3 months that I've known about Sopor, I've hunted down all but two of their albums. Best part is, by only playing their music and saying no more about them than that they're from Germany, I've got my fairly conservative dad's enthralled with it. Not sure how he'd take it if I broke it to him that Sopor Aeternus was really just one creepy transgendered goth who looks like Count Orlok and whatever studio chamber musicians he/she has with him/her for that particular album.

I would never reject a man based on what type of music he liked. If I didn't like what he listens to, then he could use headphones or listen to it when I'm not around.

As long as the CD collection does not include ANYTHING by Yoko Ono, I’m happy.

Nope it doesn't really matter to me what their music interests are....it'd be cool to find someone with a similar taste in music but its not everything.
