| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/8/2008 12:09:53 AM | Of course American women are different. While our 2 cultures are very similar, they are also very different in a lot of ways. So the attitudes are different as their upbringing can be very different.
Mind you, I have mostly met Southern women, and they seem different to the Northern women I've met....So even on the same continent they can be different.

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/8/2008 9:07:39 PM | OK....I was married to an American woman....there are so many differences I really do not know where to begin!!
I have travelled many times to the U.S. and have met many people during my travels....Americans can be so delightful in some ways and in other ways they can be EVIL INCARNATE!!
But from my experiences I have found that as superficial as American women CAN be, from a mans perspective it can be quite refreshing to interact with them, because they seem to have a lot less hang ups especially when it comes to how their partner looks etc. Australians tend to be a lot more focussed on looks.
I would imagine that this is a direct result on their censorship laws and how little nudity etc you see on average over there on TV etc.
Women over here seem to know what is "apparently" sexy and they enjoy leveraging from that!

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/9/2008 12:15:46 AM | Okay, here goes.
I once had a trans-pacific relationship with a lady in Florida. She was smart, witty, funny and loved her time visiting in Oz. Why did she love it here? Because it had an old-world charm about it, like the USA her folks used to talk about. She used to say "Aussies are not as competitive or untrusting as folk are in the USA". Still, she always spoke her mind and would occasionally state the obvious, which is the american way. That's basically the only difference between American and Australian women.
Arguably my two greatest friends are women, one's Aussie and one's American. I admire them equally as people and love them equally as friends. Once you get past the minor cultural idiosynchrasies there's bugger all in it between the two camps.
P.S. One kinda cool thing that all Americans do is that they speak respectfully to their anybody a little older than themselves - "yes ma'am" & "yes sir". We don't generally do that over here so I stood out like a sore thumb until the lady in question pointed it out to me (maybe they all thought us aussies blokes are a tad rude??)

I have to agree with this one. It is quite different to hear that. And while not everyone does it, a lot do in the places I go to. The first time I really noticed was at dinner one night at my friends mothers place. We all sat at this huge table and his stepfather sat at the head of the table, and his mother at the other end. We all sat in between(there was about 10 people there for dinner). Everytime someone was asked a question they would stop eating and reply "yes sir" this or "yes sir" that....It's just how it was....I have to agree and say it wasn't an average family in Suburbia, so their family traditions were probably a bit stronger, but it is still around.
The other one is using the term Miss, or Mr and then the first name.....Regardless of if they were married or not...especially women....My friends wife's name is Amy...So sometimes I'd call her Miss Amy....even though she was married....She would call her customers Miss (insert name) even though they were older married women.....It's a respect thing. I was with a mate in Dallas TX and we were out the back having a beer when one of the neighbourhood kids came over and said hello by saying "Hey there Mr. Bill"....
Maybe things are different above the Mason-Dixon line, but I'm not real sure....lol...Wanna-Be could probably answer that one.....
Obviously there are similarities, but on the whole(from my experience) they are different and it's due to their culture and their history etc. It's just different to ours.

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/9/2008 8:17:29 AM | well, the polite, ma'am, sir, miss is fairly universal across the states. Prolly more so down south and in the midwest where I live.
people are a bit more rude (big generalization here) on the northeastern corridor... just far more people concentrated in a small geographic area.
Here where I live and across most of the western us and south, strangers will call u by terms of endearment.. honey, darlin, sweetie... at stores, restaurants, etc.
as for other cultural diff, well, I'm sure there are lots. doesnt make one group of women better and one worse, just different, OK?

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/10/2008 7:11:57 AM | | that is some funny stuff!! the thing you have to realize is that there is no standard american woman!! they're different everywhere. We're still a relatively young county whose still trying to figure itself out....except in bars or pubs...then everyone loves everyone!! | |

One of the ladies I met from your country said...I'd have ladies lining up to meet me if I came there....I have no idea? I so far talked to her by phone and had a great time...
Sounds like you should go, then.

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/10/2008 4:00:02 PM | if he has them "lined up" in America, then they will line up over here, if he's a dud forget it.
Actually, a lot of it is the accent and the mystique of it. In the same way I am attracted to Southern women with a strong accent(and attitude). Obviously there has to be other attractions as well. Go to a bar in the South and order a beer and see what happens. That's all I'll say. I guess it's more apparent in these areas as they NEVER see Australians. On one trip I spent 3 months in the Washington(DC) to middle Georgia to Texas are and met 2 Australians....An old couple at the welcome centre in Virginia. And they were from Brisbane about 15 minutes from my place. Another trip for a month I saw no Australians. Last trip for 2 months I met no Australians, but met one Kiwi which is even more rare...He has never met an Australian or a Kiwi in all his travels there and he spends months at a time as an electrical engineer.
Go to the West Coast and I believe it's different. And let's face it, most Australians go to LA and think they've seen America...lol....Even Americans don't think LA is America...lol
And yes, one lady I met a couple of years ago on a trip there told me flat out I must have them lining up as they just fall over themselves for foreigners...Especially Australian, Irish and English men. A lady I met on this last trip is also the same. And another one used to date an Australian(who was some water skiing champion), and she just LOVES Australian men....
If you plan a trip to the U.S., I would definately suggest you fly into Atlanta and go visit some areas in the South. Especially in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Nth Carolina etc......Then come post on here and tell me there's no difference.
And there's an enermous amount of interesting places to visit. It has some great history.
Just my 2 cents | |

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/10/2008 4:36:30 PM | | I've been around this planet (twice), women are basically all the same as in wants and needs. I didn't have any outstanding sex or anything else from a Foreign than a American Lady. They're just brought up in a different culture. You just have to learn their culture, no big deal. Women are women; same headgames (universal). | |

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/27/2008 1:00:05 AM | quote I have no idea if Australian women are better actresses, or able to out compete their American counterparts in sporting events, and being as I have never had an American lady friend, I am not able to answer this question........ /quote
But of course Aussie women are better actresses and athletes - Ours use less botox and they do not take steroids to cheat at Olympic games events

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/27/2008 1:53:47 AM | Yes! There is a big difference.
In my experience American women are more outgoing, straightforward, and let you know what they want. They are more competitive, but don't seem to engage in the tiring headgames of Australian women. Australian women tend to be more culturally conservative, and very cliquey. Actually that applies to Australians in general. If you don't belong to someone's subculture (there are not all that many subcultures either) they are not likely to express interest in you. Of course this is from a younger perspective. Also in the last couple of years here fashion has taken a turn for the worse. Everyone early twenties and younger seems to be wearing "clothing" churned out by some deranged colourblind hold-back from the '80s. That and those damn giant sunglasses. I hate those.
Given this, I much prefer American women. Though I admit my views may be tainted by how I've been treated. I've got nothing but grief from Aussies. For example, I was out last night in Brisbane, and I had a long and interesting conversation with an American, and we danced, which was fun. I also had a not-so-long conversation with an Australian, who opened with the immortal words "You are gay, right?"
Enough said. | |

"You are gay, right?" Does this not work as a pick up line? Damn...I am too tired from all my headgames to think of another one. (PS...Am just kidding around...not offended in the least.)
But I did actually think the giant sunglasses were an American thing originally??

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 1/27/2008 2:24:34 AM | The times my daughter has gone to the States she has always come home with different "fashion" than what her friends were wearing at home. Shops that a teenager might shop at like Banana Republic does seem to have a better style of clothing than say Supre for example. She also shopped at Hollister last year, but I guess it's more adult fashion than teenager specific. And I had to go there when I went back last year just to get the "hollister perfume"....lol.... Mind you, there are so many stores over there that you could have any fashion you want. I was happy buying good quality jeans at Walmart for $8.77 a pair....lol...Damn they have cheap clothing there.
I'm with the OP though...I don't like the shirts with the big writing or the big sunny's they wear....

In fact, enough to write a whole book about. Here are a few things to kick things off with: the accent, the attitude, the positivity (in American women), the sarcasm (in Australian women)........and on and on and on.......

Yes, most probably. Doesn't most of our fashion come from there originally? But the giants shades are definitely big at the moment. They remind me of little kids who have got into mummy's things and like playing big girl. They just need a giant purse and some oversized red pearls and they'd be set!
Seriously, as everyone knows, there are no differences in say intelligence or looks between Americans and Australians. In 'friend territory' Australian women and American women are pretty similar. Though the sense of humour is different. But when it gets into relationship territory, the Americans soar out in front for me. I don't know why, but it seems that I am just more compatible with American women. Maybe I've got an 'American' sense of humour. Australian women tend to not take me seriously, or think me strange. Or maybe I'm full of BS.

| Is there a difference between American and Australian Women Posted: 4/3/2008 5:43:20 AM | Having met some Americans personally and online, I think they are very similar to Australians in some ways, but different in others. Most of the difference seems to be in a cultural sense, apart from the accent.
As for higher standards of living, I think that is too variable across regions of the U.S. and Australia to compare in anything but a general sense.
