Audition, as someone mentioned, is pretty good also.

This is one of the few horror movies that made me jump, great film!

Has anyone seen Carnival of souls? low budget but very creepy.Or todd brownings freaks? What I found disturbing was of course no need for special effects.

Seriously? For me it was more along the lines of "an hour-fifteen of boredom topped off with 15 minutes of graphic torture sequence".

I stopped watching it with 10 minutes to go - it was just unpleasant and pointless.

Then again I'm not really a fan of Takahashi Miike's stuff in the first place, or any of the Category III-type movies (Machine Girl, anyone?) - I did manage to make it through the first half of Ichi the Killer though, heh.

I'll take a good psychological horror movie any day (you know, the ones Hollywood is intent on making terrible remakes of).

Ugh even The Eye is getting a remake now! What's on the chopping block next, Phone maybe?

*grumble*

Well to each his own.

Like the remake of Psycho? Now that IMO was horrible.

Oldboy was over-hyped crap.
The story was so muddled, it was hard to follow and like a number of Korean movies that are out now..it replaces logic w/ violence when trying to tell a story.
The only I've ever seen where the subtitles were useless....
You don't CARE what the actors are saying...

If the VT shooter used this movie as inspiration...I can see why he was f8cked up.
Terrible,terrible film.

Well, to each is his own. I always go out of my way to see what a movie offers from it's own right. I never EVER watch a movie for what I want to see in it, or else I would miss about 7/10ths of the movies out there that are incredible in it's own right.

I take it you aren't a visual Art lover, because that's what I find to make this movie so appealing to people who really love it: The visuals are beyond stunning. If you are a music lover, then you wil catch on to the beautiful musical scores.
If you are a person who gets affect by emotional movies, then this one will definately make you shed a few tears.

Besides, what the actors were saying was all the more reason why I think you don't appreciate art films because EVERYTHING they said had signifigance to the store. Everything had a some sort oh philosophy to it wether they are metaphorically talking about the main character, or the idea of "Rumors", or heart break, accusing god, playing god, etc.......

@ jed451:

I agree, LOVED "Audition", because that movie was an incredible build up to an ending you would not see coming miles away. Love Takishe's work. If you liked that, and if you like stuff that David Lynch does, then get "Gozu", it's Takishe's take on a surreal movie. ****ing incredible.

@Beholder : Once again, to each is their own. There can't be films that will please everyone now-a-days anymore.

And why would you "take" that?

I've seen more than 4000 movies (sad but true) of all types, genres and vintages.
While some of the visuals in the movie are very good.....visuals aren't the only reasons that I watch movies.
If it were...I'd just watch silent movies.

If a film is disjointed..poorly plotted...and, in the end, makes little logical sense, then,to me..it's failed as a movie.
This movie, failed on all of those levels.

Was the WORST movie I've ever seen?
Not by a long shot...
But it wasn't even close to being the best.

Giving this thread a BUMP incase anyone else hasn't seen this beautiful masterpiece.

PS: it's been about 3 years since I have seen this movie for the first time, and it's still my TOP greatest movie I have ever seen.

Hell, I own one domestic release, and 2 Tin Box OPP special editions (one that isn't opened either)
