I agree with much of what was said, however I think that administration bashing get us nowhere. As far as I'm concerned, each party is corupted by the need to stay in power. Maybe what we need to look at is the solutions to what's going on now, and use the past as a tool to future growth instead of placing blame.

My questions would be:

What do we do now that we are in Iraq? Do we leave and let them fight it out? Or do we stay and decide how the shall proceed? Or Does the UN grow balls and police the world so we don't have to?

Also, what do we do about the political structure in our own country? Personnally, as I've said, I think the current system is F***ed. That the two party system is just a popularity contest of the corupt and the more corupt, you can choose who is who.

It is not anyone's responsibility to police the world. If governments would mind their own business and use their resources to improve their own people, we wouldn't be in this sort of mess.

As for the political system, until the people wise up, it will be the same. If you read the constitution it says that you have the right to vote- not to have your vote count for anything. That is why the electoral college exists. They have the ultimate say in who leads this mess we call a government.

i believe the majority of the people will never "wise-up" because we are living in, and perpetuating, a society that rewards those who conform to a culture of consumerism and alienates those who find the courage to express their concerns against injustices committed so that a few can have luxuries while others live in poverty.

Oh yeah, and about Iraq...i believe that it is all the citizens of the world's responsibility to ensure that everyone is treated fairly. i think that the UN could be capable of taking care of this need if we, the most influencial nation in the world, stoped thinking of ourselves only and joined the rest of the world. All nations looking to become true democracies will go thru periods of unrest and, unfortunately, violence, however, just as this country moved from that phase into another we should give the Iraqi people a chance to become the country that they choose to be.

Scorpio, I agree. But the problem lies in the fact that the UN is a bunch of bureaucrats, not citizens. The citizens should step up in these other countries for their own freedom. The governments' armies may try to swat them down, but the soldiers in those armies need to help the citizens instead of their slavemasters.

Birdman, after thinking on my own past comment, i realize that having faith in an organization, that, to be sure, is made up of priviledged members of their respective nations, is naive...but i suppose this comes from a feeling of impotency as a citizen of the world. What else is one to think and still remain sane? Despite the thieving of our right to chose our so-called leader this past election i can't help but believe that until we are at a point where our vote is nothing more than a tool to placate us while attrocities are committed in our name for the benefit of the rich (i know that to some extent this is and has always happened) we must not abandon that route. i feel your anguish though and i'm beginning to understand how some (i do not mean you) turn to religion to dull the pain...it is truly the opiate of the masses! With much respect, j.

At least with the transitional government established there is hope left for iraq. At least america should let the iraquis worry for themselves for now. No one wants to be dictated what to do in his own house. America should leave and let Iraq worry for itself afterall there are other matters more important for it to take care of.

Pop quiz: Name the last American President who was NOT involved in a war.

When I say 'war' I'm including 'police actions' (or whatever the spin-doctors like to call it now) such as Vietnam. i.e. who was the last U.S. Pres. who did not send U.S. troups to invade another country.

I ask this in reply to an earlier post, which said that the Middle East is always at way anyway, so let them at it. How does the 'civilised' U.S compare?

You have go to that far back? Many of us were still virgins that long ago! (OK, so some of us still are ;) ) Is it worrying that so many recent Presidents felt the need to go to war? Does it worry you that 60% of US presidents were involved in wars of one kind or another? (Probably not if you are from the U.S. I guess.)

we were in germany for a reason- to stop the advancing of the communists that were our allies that we never trusted. and no you wouldn't hear many complaints about it, back then if you spoke your mind- you were deemed an instigator, rabblerouser, or the dreaded c word, communist.

Ready Reserve? That will probably be more guard duty for oil well sites. Got to quote "Ole George" on that one...."We're going to show these people how to use their natural resources" Yea we will have bases there until the oil runs out. Gosh...It might be the first police action that will turn a profit. If they could get the locals to learn how to drink and have sex maybe they might stop blowing themselves up. Works for us...LMAO

America Is GREAT!!!
Posted: 7/6/2004 4:40:38 PM
Its gonna get better, sure soldiers might die but thats war at the end of the day.Iraq is going to be another stronghold in the middle east, like Israel,Saudi Arabia,Kuwati and others. Its going to become rich and iraqs people will enjoy decent lifestyles.Sure it might take time but so what.
Their sacrifice is for the greater good.I live in Dublin, Ireland right now but i will be moving to America at the end of the year and i plan on joining the army, eventually to go the airborne.Im getting alot stick off friends, most of them being anti-american for some stupid reason, i think they are just trying to convey an image.Anyway they say i shouldn't join because america is evil and wants to control the world, typical stuff like that but if you think about it, I owe alot to america, everyone in ireland does, everyone in europe probably does. The "allies" before america got involved in world war II were losing and losing badly. As soon as america devoted its troops, tanks and workers the war turned around. Im sick and tired of people bad mouthing America, all people ever say is America only cares about money and war.Which is partially true, but who doesn't like money and lets face it war makes money.America does more good deeds than bad.It gives more money to curing diseases like AIDS than the whole of europe combined, its actually getting somewhere in cancer research, it is the only country commited to exploring space, which to some is trivial but i consider it an important factor in the road to world peace, well lets face it we'll never have peace lets say world unity.God Bless America.
