I think they liked me, that's why they kept me and let the coke smugglers go through and those guys in the van with the funny looking pipes.

Geez those guys are big though .. phew!

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/25/2007 8:34:35 AM | { QUOTE " though it makes me wonder why Americans are so placid about NSA spying on them. Besides, their job is to spy on foreigners, not Americans. " END OF QUOTE}
So how does keeping an eye on what someone is reading, in a public place, "spying" on Americans ?
Its quite obvious that certain books , reading material, would give a profiler an indication of what that person is about. Someone with tracts, from the Solar cult, might indicate they are a member, of course you are going to take note of that. Someone reading a magazine called " Hemp Today" , is going to draw attention to thems selves by drug enforcement, maybe you think?
With the proliferation of pedophile magazines, web sites, I as a parent sure hope somebody some where , is checking who is subscribing to those publications !
Why would anyone care what interest is shown in your reading material? If I am on an airplane, reading my latest copy of Road and Track, they might assume rightly , that I am an auto enthusiast, conclude that maybe I speed at times. So what? They going to get a cruiser to follow me from the car rental place to clock me?
Now ifyou have magazines that show you are a illegal drug enthusiast, lol, they may check your luggage over, sure. If you have magazines, supporting white power and have a T shirt with a picture of Timothy McVeigh on it, well they could then think you are one of those, and check you out more closely.
Not one person has been arrested in the Staes or Canada , for believing in conspiracy theories that I am aware of. After thinking about it, it would probably be a good idea to double check people with books about conspiracy theories. Double check with their Doctors, ensure they havnt one off their meds you know? All in the interest of public safety ! Oh well, it is still legal, rats, lol.

I drove across that border between Canuckville and Bushland 2 years ago. They held me at that border (the US patrol did) for almost 5 hours!!! why? WHY, she asks.... well, in her own words.....
Thank God for dirt bikes! Cross anywhere so long as you don't shop at a duty free! And you wonder why people like you are stopped at the border. People like you are the problem. I cross the border by plane, car and on my boat probably 5 - 10 times a year. Never a problem. But when people do and say idiotic things like what you've said, enforcement types get concerned and ramp up the systems to stop people like you - when they should be busy looking for people who are dangerous, rather than just plain dumb. Glad to hear that you're staying home, it's people like you who cause trouble for the rest of us, who simply want to travel and enjoy what other countries have to offer.

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/25/2007 6:22:12 PM | So what if they watch me read? As long as I'm not doing anything illegal why should I be concerned?
Security's job is to watch. I am a regular at one area where events happen, almost a fixture like a piece of furniture. One day the Governor showed up there and I thought it'd be fun to bring my mum out for something to do. Well, we had to sit different places because of her medical issues and available seating so I communicated with her via some common hand signals we use. Didn't take but seconds for an ununiformed security officer to be by me and she watched me closely after that. But big deal, if I didn't do anything wrong then what is the problem?

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/26/2007 6:14:59 AM | Ah.....the same folks that get so freaked out because the nasty old government now knows that they read Dr. Seuss will be the first ones to light up the forums blasting the gov for not doing enough to stop a future attack....God forbid that should happen. Nauseating.......
I doubt if past generations gave a sh*t if anyone knew they subscribed to Cosmo or Sports Illustrated. This is just ACLU garbage at its finest. "Gov violating our rights" until something happens....then the left wing nuts scream that the administration "didn't do enough" or the best of all "IN ON IT"
Disgusting....! Fa, la, la, la, la people.

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/26/2007 9:12:49 AM | The TSA is so funny, to balance out profiling they have to search little old grandmas and children. I have a 7yr old niece who goes to California each summer to visit her Grandparents. Every trip since 2001, she has been singled out for further examination. Her Barbie suitcase is the Hot button to the TSA. Yes a 7yr old blonde girl is a major terrorist risk..... What is the problem? Too Cute?
I think the TSA screeners just want to see what coloring books she carries, so they know which ones they want to buy for themselves.
If you are worried just bring a graduate level Physics Textbook and see what kind of attention you get.

So what if they watch me read? As long as I'm not doing anything illegal why should I be concerned?
1. Because the NSA's job is not to spy on Americans domesticly. 2.You may feel comfortable giving up your rights, but there is a good portion who doesn't 3. when the book you are reading now become outlawed, then what? 4. I didn't fight for my country just so i can give up my rights
Although some people feel its ok for bush co and his jack-booted thugs can stick their nose in your business, I don't think they have that right, neither does the Constitution.
I love how people stand behind the flag saying its perfectly ok for the government to walk over our rights, but have no idea what it's like to lose everything.
As far wanting the government to protect us, they failed. All conspericies aside, the towers were attacked once before. Did the government protect us from when it happened again?
the government failed to protect us from Saudies with box cutters, what makes you think they can protect us from them if they used guns?
|
| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/26/2007 9:29:48 AM | | I love how you mention in passing that the towers were attacked once before and are questioning why the government didn't protect us when it happened AGAIN? So very true...I was targeted and "interrogated" by the Worcester, MA police several years ago for demonstrating in a peace rally...Imagine their supreme dissapointment when all they found out was that I was a pretty dull therapist who actually helped the vets and soldiers they assumed I was "dissing"....No terrorist spy plotting to over throw the govt....What a waste of taxpayers money...Hypocrasy and paranoia know no bounds here...It didnt intimidate me abit, thou...I went right on protesting and exercising my 5th amendment right | |

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/26/2007 12:29:17 PM | "Why would anyone care what interest is shown in your reading material"
Do you think that applies to the Federal Govt. knowing all your private business as well?...Or just the politically correct "Homeland Security" part of it?
"All in the interest of public safety"
According to who's definition of "public safety"?....Most of the time people are targeted because they look and act differently than what the politically correct govt wants them to behave and think...They think independently and dont knuckle down by govt. harrassment, fear or intimidation.....They challenge the status quo....It has nothing to do with them causing a potential threat to the USA....This is just a repeat of scare tactic McCarthyism from the 1950s...

this is just a repeat of scare tactic McCarthyism... Hopefully, cgg, this hasn't caused you to suffer from ptsd - and if you compare what is happening today to McCarthyism, then you are smoking some great stuff, because that's not what it was all about...why don't you go pick up a history book - hopefully, the evil right wing hasn't re-written them all yet. Remember this - you're right to protest peacefully was bought and paid for by your betters with their blood. And as long as you lefties can protest, and make silly remarks in forums such as this about how horrible the war is, how evil the administration is, how terrible I am for calling you names and pointing out your inanities and correcting your spelling and grammar, lol, etc. ad nauseum, and do it without being arrested, you've got nothing to worry about. Your first amendment rights are intact - something 75 percent of the world envies each and every one of you for.

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/26/2007 2:19:00 PM | "make silly remarks about how horrible war is"
Tell me that after youve worked with vets for 20 years..Theres nothing "silly" about war...I know firsthand what its like because Ive listened to stories of vets and have worked with them treating their PTSD for the past 20 years...My "right" to protest was brought about by the original protestors from the Revolutionary War in the 1700s who broke away from the British govt., not the soldiers of today who invade other countries and impose their will ...Remember them?.....How about YOU?...Perhaps if you knew your history, youd remember that history repeats itself when the lessons of ignorance arent learned...Your posts are proof of that alone...Ive got plenty to worry about because of the ignorance and immaturity of folks like you holding the rest of the country back...Just waiting for people like you to finally "get it" and deal with your arrogance and blindness is frustration enough.

Why did'nt Georgey's old college buddy's take the reports the previous administration, you know the one that left us in the black?and at least tried black ops,(Clinton)into acount instead of tossing them asside? You know all the reports about guys learning how to take off but not land planes, duh? and how to fly dustcrop planes?oh yeah and not recognize known wanted persons when they were pulled over for speeding on their way to Boston?Should I keep going?.... Actually they did in America that is, and fought a war about it and some other issues. They even made a declaration of independence and a bill of rights and reading material AND THE RIGHT TO READ whatever you want is pretty high up on that bill of rights.

You may feel its ok to give up your rights. I'm sure the the revolutionaries would have not supported big government or king george watching what you read. History has shown us that it does from watching what you read to telling what you can or can't read.

Are you really that thin-skinned that you honestly think that is an attack on you?
Or it is your guilt playing cover for your weak attempts at emotional partisan manipulation?
I agreed with another person and I made an OBSERVATION about the characteristics of your posting style. If you don't like it, don't be so obvious in your politicing. Now you're probably gonna whine that I read your message.
Just like your whole point now is a straw man. Historically they wanted the freedom to read what they wanted. Now we have it. Big deal if some one watches you, when you're in public that is to be expected. Those historical people would not have cared about that because all they cared about was the RIGHT to do what the wanted.
They knew the power of speech and written word could form beliefs and spread hope. THEY WANTED people to watch them. They took great care in using the words they did and empowered themselves through the use of the printing press. They formed a nation through those thoughts.

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/28/2007 5:21:56 AM | | Actually, I think a poll taken on this subject with only those 65 + participating would blow much of your argument. Most ppl I know in that age group are horrified at the turn this country has taken. They would gladly let someone take note of the fact that are reading the latest AARP newsletter, without feeling the slightest bit "violated." If we truly started running this country the way those that fought so bravely in the past intended, much of the "Hollywood-style, don't step on the freakin rights of the terrorists" way of doing things would fly out of the window. | |

much of the "Hollywood-style, don't step on the freakin rights of the terrorists" way of doing things would fly out of the window.
Hollywood style? This could mean alot of things, can you please clear up your ambiguous definition of "Hollywood style"?
If we truly started running this country the way those that fought so bravely in the past intended,
A hands off approach to business, ending corporate and civilian welfare, taxes, end to pork spending, stop hiring of merc armies, letting states determine their laws, decriminalizing drugs, not intruding on the 2nd Amendment, not spying on Americans by reading their e-mail or listening to their cell phone calls, end of farm subsidiaries, going back to the gold standard, not passing needless and unpopular laws, reducing much all of the red tape, end to secret bidding and government contracts, a return to state rights verses federal rights?
We as Americans allowed this to happen. It may be too late to get these rights back.

| Homeland Security is watching you read Posted: 11/29/2007 9:30:36 AM | I have no problem with the government monotoring the public, on the net on the phone,..etc
They don't in fact read everything,...(no one could) that you read,....they have equipment that monotors phones, computers etc, for key words or phrases,...these could be Bin Laden, alquida,...and so on ,,.....
My (and I dare say many others') problems start when the people doing this monotoring, take snippets of very edited information to base some of their actions perpetrated against the citizenry on,.....
It's at this point that the legal system puts into action their current ideology of the new justice system in the mightiest democracy on earth,....,...which basically is,...
You are guilty of whatever we charge you with , and will declair this guilt by any means at our disposal (or our allies who are much more capable in this capacity) and will remain such until by some miracle of God,...or every penny you own, you can proove yourself NOT GUILTY,....or we loose interest in you and let you go,....
Since we don't have to give you access to legal councel,...if we don't want to,...and we don't,....this process has no maximum time limit and may possibly take any number of years,....
So why isn't every Country on earth lining up to convert their government to your system of Democracy is anyone's guess?,..... It certainly has me stumped
