Guilty! I viewed your profile because you had made an interesting (at least to me) comment in a post - I also liked the photo. Quite often they are hundreds of miles away, so I move on to the next post. Sometimes I will e-mail to comment on the post/profile and will normally get a nice reply One person I e-mailed replied very nicely and we are good friends (got you again B.), e-mailing each other most days and the occasional IM.
I actually think more people respond from the forums than from the dating side - go figure!.

I notice that the OP lives in Columbus Ohio... I have viewed profiles from that area because POF sometimes tell me they are within 50 miles... Which is strange because I'm thinking its 6 times that to where I am.

I would check a person's profile because of something they stated in the forums, they looked at my profile, or it was in my search results. Usually I don't know where they live until I look at their profile unless they mentioned where they live on one of their forum posts. Also as some other posters stated, when you click on a person that is within 50 miles of the person that you are currently looking at, sometimes the distance between me and the person that I'm viewing can get very large very quickly. If I like the person's profile I could be interested until I realize the very long distance.

I get bored and for fun, just start chaining profiles in the 'who's viewed email within 50 miles of this person' and see how far from home I can get. Makes for interesting profile reading, but hey, I'm am exploratory and curious person by nature.

Why do I look at someone in the airport while waiting on a plane? Because it's interesting. Perhaps your being overly narcissistic assuming everyone who stops to look at you wants you.

Uh...Picker...nowhere in this thread did I make any assumption that someone who looked at my profile wanted me. Not every woman on here suffers from the delusion that the sun rises and sets in her ass crack.;)

Looking at a profile is one of the ways they find out where you live......

Some people can do this thing called travel, so it doesn't matter to them.

Others want you to show tit on webcam.

Endless scenarios.

As girl above touched on, I'm sure some people click on my profile because they think I look like a train wreck, and wish to rubberneck.

It's like catalog shopping...window shopping from afar. At least men are looking...it's when they're yawning that you've got a problem.

local interest

i'm throwing this post in here rather than start a new thread.

this doesn't count for people who have distance restrictions on their accounts.

has anyone found that the majority of people who seem really interested in them and write lots of messages are from far away, not local? the only truly local people i've had contact with were people i knew before i logged onto this site. i seem to find that the most extensive online correspondences, and even phone calls, seem to be with women who are quite far away from me. is this true for other folks? i can only guess that the women feel safer and less likely to have to commit to getting together; they don't have to come up with a reason to turn down a chance to get together since geography pretty much takes care of that. local folks might feel that, if they meet someone online, eventually, they'll probably have to meet them in person, so they're pickier.

do you it feel that's the case?

I may check someones profile from the forums and then click links to other peoples profiles in thier area randomly, i read about 75% of the profiles i click on.

Its strange, i find people more like me that i can get along with more easily from other countries / states... just my luck eh...

I have never understood why people care who is looking at their profiles.

Unless they've written a note, it means nothing to me.

So they looked... Didnt see anything compelling enough to write and moved on. Done deal. Over.

Can anyone explain why this bothers so many people?

That might be a mistake. I'll wait a week or so before making contact with a woman, especially if she's new. I do this for two reasons: one she may have said, "will update my profile later" and the second is that it doesn't always strike me to have something interesting to say right away. Sh!t, I got to come up with something original as many women complain about simple "Hi." Besides, we got to prepare ourselves for the Unread/Delete & the Read/Delete bullsh!t, not to mention the flat out rejection.

Maybe because they're actively looking for someone and any interest, is well, piquing thier curiousity. Unlike the real world, here we get a chance to see who might be interested in us. Either that or it's just vanity.

That's my point. Simply looking does not mean interest.

They like your forum posts and hope you live close...

They like your picture in the "vote" thing, and hope you live close...

Thre's all kinds of reasons for someone to view a profile... I look at a fair number of them to see why they'd post something that I think is just pure nuts...

Maybe they look at your profile, to see where you live..... One of the ways to find out that you don't live near them, is by viewing your profile.

Re the Opost

"I guess I am curious if they are really thinking they might be interested in someone who lives far away, or is it just the curiosity factor"

IMO, the former is more probable. Not all people are local in their searches. Some are "global daters" in the globalisation era. We all live on the same planet, Earth (and the same Society, POFFland).

to me this would be simple if you live in a smaller city meaning not a whole lot that may interest me then i look farther a field. yes maybe some would not relocate but if you don't look or try then you get to a differnt question on a forum in here would you settle. and the answer to that is no. also i will add the best online relationships i have had are from across the world.finding your true love online is slim so why not broden your horizens and meet people from other parts of the world. plus doing this i have gone on vaction in say china, phillapines and meeting ladies online made for the best vaction ever. as hey knowing a local can make your cost half of tourist rate and you have friends if your traveling alone.

OP, could be many different reasons. 1) Forum people. 2) They stumbled across you when surfing pics. 3) You were a match in some other way (no email, chemistry, whatever).

If a guy is interested, he will write you.
