| Should we have a referendum on the EU Treaty? Posted: 3/5/2008 11:25:05 AM | | We should pull out of the Eu not get bogged down further with them. But Labour are anti-British anyway, so its not like they really care what we think. | |

| Should we have a referendum on the EU Treaty? Posted: 3/5/2008 11:33:45 AM | We should simply because I'd like to see a public debate about what constitutes "anti-social" and "treasonable" behavior in terms of the resurection of the death penalty. This treaty will allow the death penalty for certain offences. I freely admit I don't fully understand under what conditions etc, but that's why I'd like to see a public discussion!
So far that's been the big red flag for me, but I'm sure that the public scrutiny created by a referendum would throw up other little gems contained within the "legalese" that could potentially affect how our society works in a way that perhaps conflicts with majority opinion. We voted in a party that promised us democracy on the issue of a European referendum and so far hasn't delivered.
I just feel like we are being treated as sheepies who have no right be told what is being decided on our behalf, in our names by those we all PAY to represent us and I resent it.

| Should we have a referendum on the EU Treaty? Posted: 4/4/2008 11:34:24 AM | what it all boils down to is this
we joined a common agricultral policy, nothing more and that was wrong
would you join a club, that for every £1 you got out you had to put 3 in. of course you wouldnt. you would have to be bloody mad to do that yet thats what our bright politicians have done and its just gonna get worse

Now now, spelling is another thread Brian
Yes, I was being a bit mischevious ! I guess I could not resist when the person in question is immensely proud of her country - yet could not spell it.
Nothing personal :-) | |

| Should we have a referendum on the EU Treaty? Posted: 4/4/2008 12:57:08 PM | | I'm really far beyond caring about the EU anymore, what will happen will happen, what will be will be, I'm just going to do my own thing, make enough money so i can move abroad and not have to worry about how crappy this country is turning! | |

| Should we have a referendum on the EU Treaty? Posted: 4/17/2008 4:17:00 PM | For those interested in the fact that the Irish nation are the sole EU country who are getting the opportunity to have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and the issues currently being debated here in this country re the future impact of the treaty etc.
I thought this link to RTE (an Irish T.V. station)'s current affairs programme might be interesting for you.
http://www.rte.ie/news/primetime/
It contains an interview with Jose Manuel Barosso, president of the EU who visited Ireland today to promote the Lisbon treaty.
Our biggest concern is with maintaining our neutrality and also the economic backlash of putting through a treaty that wishes to 'harmonise' corporate taxes throughout the EU.
Barosso is basically informing the Irish people that even if they reject the treaty it won't stop it happening further down the line but he has added the threat/suggestion that should we be responsible for delaying the eventuality of the Lisbon Treaty becoming a reality we won't have as much say in the workings of the EU in the future.
I can't make up my mind as yet to which way I will vote.
