seriously...how many of u folks have been married or in a long term relationship? AND...how many of u thought it was an issue or even knew, how ur S.O typed on ur wedding day? Did u know, or care, that they werent a suave chatter? I think not...for at least half of the sum of mentioned ppl.

Not surprised at that, women are usually happy to talk to men who are MORE attractive than they are. It's when you are the same attractiveness that you have to prove yourself a little, and when you are less attractive you have to prove yourself a lot.
Where the OP is coming from is kinda true. Since sending messages are free to men, they attempt to contact a lot more women here than they would in real life. So women have more suitors here, but any given suitor's interest is weaker than the real world, because he's divided it across many more women.
To improve the efficiency of a dating site, there should be some cost to the man for contacting. I think he'd make more realistic, rational choices and chase women who he could actually obtain, and might want him as well. But that type of restriction will never happen. Too many men wouldn't like it. And the objective of these sites are to have as many users as possible to attract advertisers. They want as much interaction as possible, emails flying hopelessly everywhere, most deleted as soon as they land. | |

Online gives women all the power. And that is counter to eons of evolution. The social dynamic is turned around.
A lot of these women get so much attention that it becomes cliche and annoying to them and every guy is guilty until proven innocent, so they start to look for reasons to write you off.
Out in the real world, I do so much better. But here, it's futile. I don't even know why I bother. | |

Posted: 2/29/2008 4:38:53 PM | i'm not picky, i talk to everyone that contacts me whether it be in here, any other sites, or in person. if a guy were to initiate a conversation with me then i would talk to them (in person) but in here if a guy doesn't initiate a conversation then i keep on reading. i haven't been sifting through profiles only because there aren't too many guys that live close by me. why would i actually want to start a conversation with someone that i know might not be interested in me? there are some guys in here that i contacted but mostly because of an interested in their posts. | |

If I met some guy, lets say in the local pub, and he offered to buy me a beer ... and I thought he was nice looking, OK. I wouldn't send him home to his computer to send me several emails before he could see me again. ...LOL. I think its the subconcious working in the back of the head that says "Watch the internet. Their are all kinds of creeps out there" . But, really...these guys also drink in pubs. So , to answer your ?, I would say yes, but who can figure out why? Just the way it is. Maybe 'cause it's the unknown here, and you can pretty much figure someone out in 5 minutes in a pub.

I like someone who will make me laugh so if I get a funky, funny email that proves to me the guy actually "read" my profile and is interested in ME rather than giving me the obviously old cut and paste document to save time, then there is very little chance things will go anywhere. Same thing in real life. If a guy approaches me and say "yo baby, wanna chat?" I won't even answer and continue my way. But ask me questions and make conversation while being funny and witty and I'm there!
As for the tons of emails I'm supposed to get, where are they? LOL I think it's because my pics are hidden, apparently I'm supposed to get 10 times more responses if I have a pic displayed on my profile. Go figure...
By the way, I don't think it applies to "girls" only, men are like that too. | |

POF does that FOR you potentially by putting your picture next to people who might be as good looking as you, or it screws you by putting a picture of you smiling with a gap in your teeth next to a guy who can crush a walnut with his buttcheeks who's showing off his six pack. I started off thinking like this and then came to realize that I needed to be more open to possibilities. I don't really want someone who is identical to me. I want an unique individual who I have some things in common but who will also open my world up to new experiences. Unfortunately there are men and women who need to think about possibilities instead of limiting themselves so much. | |

On the Internet everyone is in the same location looking at the same faces, in Real life if your into the club scene that is where you are, if you prefer to play pool you are somewhere else, If you more into intellectual stimulation there is yet another location for you, outdoor sports guess what same thing.
So in some respects when in public and meeting someone at a location in real life one item is already clear and that is of similar interest. On the Internet it is unknown, You MAY like the words of someone and their appearance but if your interests are completely and totally opposite chances are you would never run into these people in real life therefore they would not have to be "picky"
The Internet does without a doubt make it easier to turn a blind eye, but it also in many ways puts you under a microscope to be dissected by people who would not normally be part of your social circle | |

Thats true, if your a 10/10 you can write the dumbest emails and lamest profile and girls will respond and will ask to meet you.
But, if youre average you can still get 9s or 10s that will respond if you write something witty. The bad part being is you have to keep writing esquisitly crafted emails every time until the girl will agree to meet you, even then its a crap shoot after she meets you.
If youre attractive, women will give you a break, if your average you really have to be on your game and online dating just adds to the time you waste.
As a guy I would NOT USE ONLINE DATING as a primary means of meeting women unless your a 10/10. its a numbers game, even if youre a 8/10 there might be 50 other guys that are 8s or 9s messenging girls and the probability that a girl will respond or have the time to respond will be low. If your a 8 your success at getting women that are 7-10 in real life is going to much higher, because in real life out of a random crowd of people 8s stand out (think geographic restriction, not all the hot people can be in 1 spot at the same time)
Use online dating as a secondary source for dating. I would suggest just getting out there, go to the book store, go shopping, go to the park, walk your dog, whatever it is go out to be seen. | |

Same thing happen here bro. I get bored sometimes at night after I study and read some of the threads on the forum. I decided to just im someone of the ladies up to start a convo. Most of them act like they all Venus or Queen of Troy lol. I think most of them are most definately more picky online than in person. Juan and costcoe also hit it on the spot. Some guys could have no profile or spent little time on his profile but if he's stunning he will get messages back. I have a friend on here who has no profile at all just msg a woman with a simple hi... and he gets replies wtf lol. When guys post threads asking what's wrong, most ladies will just give them an advice to change their profile (yeah right). | |
