I suggest purchasing the program called ' Metal Method Vocal Power'. It's fairly cheap and comes with a CD (for working on scales) and a DVD.
Good luck

sing a lot! look up 'support' if you really want to be good. If you feel lacking in confidence, join in with your favourite songs.

Everyone who said "sing" is right on. Your voice is like a muscle. You need to work it.
Train by singing. Learn what you can from your heroes but find and keep your own voice. When you find what you do well, learn to showcase it.
Drink lots of water.

As far as confidence, can't help you. I wanted to rock out and be John Lennon since I was 5. There is no such thing as stage fright.

Are you any where near a community college? or even a church? one of the best things you can do is SING. community colleges offer singing lessons, and you can alwyas sign up for the school choir. if you can, do join a choir. nothing will build your endurance like singing regularly AND most importantly... vocalizing...i used to vocalize every single day... it's boring, buy it really builds your voice up...

I used to sing professionally, and I can tell you that smoking can really screw up your voice, your vocal tone, and your range. vocal tone is one of the most important things... if you have a good tone it can make up for alot of flaws... but with out it... forget it! your voice will sound thin and not stand out...it's all about the tone!!!

also, dont try to strain your voice by singing too loud either. one can do a lot of damage to thier voice by singing too loudly without being properly trained. pro singers know that loud is not what it is about. it's about tone. while some people can scream and yell and still sound cool, many can not..and just sound...harsh and thin...

another thing to consider is this:

it's important to be honest with yourself. i have known many people over the years who were great writers/musicians but just average, or even bad singers. instead of finding a great singer to work with, they instead insisted in doing it all. the best thing that a person can do is have an honest assesment of what they are good at. without hearing your voice i can't say one way or another...

The answer to this is easy. Start walking a lot, maybe even start jogging and swimming regularly. This will really help you with breath control and it's part in singing. Trust me, it works.

I have been performing for about 10 years now..My best advice I can give, surround yourself with talented people.. I never could sing until I put down the guitar and only focused on the vocal aspect. I used to be very shy singing.. little to no faith in my vocals. Within the last 3 years I have been focusing on vocals alot more.. Just like the guitar or keys it takes lots of practice. Learning how to to inhale properly and utilize my air more contientiously, made an incredible difference.. I used to change keys to allow my voice more room.. In learning to use my lungs more effectively by listening, singing along with the music to match pitch, I have found that I can now with ALOT of practice hit higher, and lower notes more comfortably. I also sing along when I am practicing scales and whatnot.. This helps stretch my vocal scales, and aids in ear recognition. Singing Acapella definately helped me in cleaning up my vocals, and pronunciation. I used to have many issues with phrasing, pronunciation, and clarity. I basically approached the vocal aspect the same way I would approach learning guitar/mandolin/any other instrument. Methodically. Hope it helps! Great advice here! Good job folks!
