Yes I do believe that people see, sense, and even smell them.
However, my position takes a little explaining.....I believe in God...I believe that each person that is living or has lived possesses a spirit. I think that when we describe living people we tend to describe spiritual attributes.....happy go lucky, kind, sociable, funny, and conversely, sad, mean, spiteful, psychotic.....of course there are myriad other adjectives for both, but you get the point. I also believe there is evil in the world...often labeled as Satan in order to personify its existence as a working entity.
Without writing a short book, I will say that I think ghosts are indeed real but they are not what they seem. I think that "Satan" or evil spirits, create these images of someone for people to see.....For example.....I saw my grandfather..talking to me of nothing of great importance, but I SAW him...his accent was just like I remember it! But it was NOT him....it was a flawless image for me to see to possibly seduce me into believing that contact may be possible...to lead me further away from the good and closer to the evil that is here in the world....This evil takes root in peoples hearts and minds somehow....I think this is one way for evil to get its foot in the door.....I have experienced that if you deny these visions as such....they go away.....and ask yourself THIS question....Even if you encounter a "good" ghost.....in what direction does it take you in wanting to know more?

And for Bible believers................ummm , it does repeatedly say spirits walk the earth......

yes gypsy, i know, and another reason i believe in ghosts/spirits, other than the obvious, is in the old testament. 1 Samuel 28:7-19, about Saul, the witch/medium/diviner/channeler/necromancer(whatever you want to call her) at
En Dor, and the spirit/ghost of Samuel!
i also remember a few "close encounters" of the spiritual kind myself!
but "as Believers" we are commanded "not" to call upon them, if they contact/show themselves to us, we are to try/test the spirits, to see if they are of God!
for those that may ask "why not", cause "my God" said so, !

Hi Cleo,
Yes I sure do believe that ghosts exist and as I've read through the threads I see many others do too and have had experiences. I also like the definitions that I think I saw at the beginning of the thread.
I have the fun position of being a psychic investigator consultant for a paranormal/ghost group. I just love doing investigations and meeting new friends without bodies! :)
Many times they have a lot to communicate to us and it's important that we listen to them and help them out.
Many of the things we find out are backed up with historical evidence, sound and images. So it's always interesting when we go to a site.

Yeah, I found one in my kitchen one night but when I ask it if it had accepted Christ as Savior, he ran off, using some excuse about an appointment...WTF?

I didn't believe in them til i encountered one, in broad daylight from a distance of less than 12 feet. Another time I saw one from less than 5 feet abt. 5;30 in the evening near a busy sidewalk. Neither time were they vaporous/whispy/transparent.

Mystic Water, my late great husband told me before he died that I should always "Pay Attention". I have had that phrase repeated to me by soooo many people and have seen it in angel type sympathy cards, etc... Yes, I think they do want to communicate and we just have to pay attention to things around us in order to get the message.

I have lived in a couple of homes that had a great deal of unseen (as well as ghostly seen) energy. Beginning when I was ten and my father died. His energy was present often. It was such a comfort to know he still watched over me.

Ashley,
What wonderful messages! He's not sending one message but working through people, places and things! :) It just shows how much love he has for you. You know that he is in our REAL home. The place where we are whole (physically, mentally and spiritually) the place where we *all* return.. no matter what...to get over and heal from being here on Earth:)

Some people (souls) are so distraught over what they have experienced on Earth that they need to go through a 'healing process' on the other side. It's almost like recreating an Earth hospital but in this hospital everyone gets well... before they can go on to understand what the *heck* happened in their life's experiences and digest them:)

I don't believe that your husband had to do that... from what you have said he transitioned very beautifully:)
Ty so much for sharing... I love to hear of stories and experiences from the other side.:)

daisy chain,
When my Dad first passed he played around with the setting of my house and other friends houses thermostat when I was visiting. He used to turn the central air conditioner on and off in my house. :)
It started to freak out my friends and family... that was my signal because he did it when I was around.
He actually had other signals for other members of the family... I guess in his own way he was still making each one of us feel special in his own way from the other side.:)

I believe that there are spirits (a soul like entity) that roams around this world BUT I do not believe they are souls of humans that have died. It is doubtful that human souls linger around after death regardless of any unfinished business they may feel they have or regardless of whether or not they worry for their left behind relatives. The “bigger picture” will be clear to everyone after death. Everyone will be concerned about the “Judgment day”. So, I believe human souls would go on a dormant mode and just wait for the judgment day. IMO the concept of time works differently in that realm – so the wait for the “judgment day” may not be that long.

Some folks occasionally claim to encounter ghosts and some so-called “mediums” even claim to make contact with them – BUT I doubt they understand what they are really making contact with. The entities that they claim to make contact with – are not dead souls of humans IMO.

God created all living beings at the same time. They were all “the same” in the beginning IMO. The classification of those “beings” took place after a rebellion in Godly kingdom.

All living entities falls under four categories…

1) Angels:
Entities that never doubted God and never questioned his absolute authority.

2) Animals, trees, babies that die young:
Entities that doubted God slightly but repented before God intervened and proved his absolute authority.

3) Human souls:
Entities that asked God to prove his authority and only after that they repented.

4) Creatures that were far-gone in their distrust:
These creatures liked devil’s suggestion better and decided to remain ignorant and did things (bigger and worst things) that may have been very offensive to God.

Angels remained with God but the rest were put in repository and are coming to this world one by one for their second change at redemption.

Category two comes to this world as a symbolic trip and once dead they are supposedly forgiven IMO.
Category three really has to prove they are worthy to be taken back. They need to believe in God with limited proof that we have and lead a righteous life and believe in the eventual judgment day.

For Category four – everything is much harder. They have a longer life span and they are more susceptible to the devil and his ways. As a matter of fact – I think they come to this world as devil’s descendants. Just like we come to this world as Adam’s descendants!!

When a human child is being born – one of those entities from the category four attaches itself with the human soul and thus feed us devil’s point of view. Devil is not omnipresent – so this is the way he tries to influence us.

When a human dies – his co-companion entity leaves the body but lives on for the rest of the duration of its lifespan. Because it remains attached with the human during his lifespan – it gathers enough memory to fool anyone that it is in fact the soul of that human. But in reality – those are not human souls. Those co-inhabited entities can be better described as devil’s descendants.

I really disagree with your entire analogy based on the events that I have been through with near death experiences.
I felt I needed to say for anyone that has lost a child before they were born or very young in age that it was NOT due to any doubts, negativity or such things on the part of the child or parent. I know that some religions say such things.

On a spiritual level souls can change their mind in utero about the experiences that they will have on earth and decide not to come in for many reasons. We choose our parents, families and living situations depending on the learning through experiences that we want to have in the physical. Inside those little bodies are very brilliant and old souls.

Also there are many things that doctors don't understand yet and cannot prevent yet and probably never will. To make such blanket statements. IMHO is cruel and heartless to those of us who have lost their little ones due to such circumstances. I didn't personally but my sister did. I see what she goes through even 20 years later.

Sry I just had to say that... I'm not sure if it's proper for the forums or not...

MysticWater, I agree with you entirely...that one about the babies dying was just abhorrent to me. I agree that some souls change their minds, while waiting to be born or shortly after they are born, and decide that this was not the right time and place for them to incarnate. Also, some souls incarnate simply as teaching souls, don't they? Babies who die very young may have incarnated to teach something, rather than to learn something. I have to believe that their short lives have served a purpose ...either for themselves or for those who were blessed to know them.

Shadowdancing, these beliefs of yours seem so sad and fearful. I respect your right to hold them...though I do not agree with them...but I am just wondering, who taught you this stuff? Was it your church or a certain book? I have read and studied so much about spirituality... and I confess I have never run across these ideas before.

First and foremost, I have learned from spirit that they do not like being called ghosts and in fact, I call the lost ones earth-bound spirits. They are the ones that for reasons of their own have made the decision to stay behind and not go to the Light. I know of a medium who was once house sitting and found an old man sitting in a rocker in the family room and when she proceeded to try and convince him to go to the Light, that his wife was waiting for him, he announced that this was the very reason he WASN'T going...lol! Many are scared and don't know what happened to them or they are attached to a person or belonging left behind. Like HappyLioness, I too, have guided earth bounds to the Light, but the majority do not want to go. In one case, I had one begging but said she couldn't find it, so I called angels for help. Some of them want revenge, therefore the noises and lights flashing, TV's and VCR's going off and on, etc etc. Spirits are energy just as electricity is, therefore they have the ability to manipulate anything electrical, but cannot hurt anyone physically. As someone else said, the spirit within each of us is the same type of energy that these spirits are.
As far as believing or not believing, a spirit very close to my heart has informed me that you have to be open to even experience their activities. If you don't believe in it, if you're not looking for it, then you won't see it. She has said to me that there will be many surprised people when it comes for their time on earth to end. When you experience an earth bound female spirit crossing your patio all in white in an old fashioned dress with a bustle attached to the back walking through the wall next to the patio, it's very hard not to believe. When you see a black human type form standing in your bedroom doorway long enough to see that you've seen them so that they turn and run, then it's very hard not to believe.
Spirits are all around us all of the time. Some are good, some are bad. Some of us are gifted enough to know the difference, who is of the Light and who comes from the dark. Those of you who work with spirit please remember that the dark ones can come as a wolf in sheeps clothing, so be careful with whom you work with, whom you communicate with and even some of us gifted ones can be fooled into thinking the wrong thing. If you hear thoughts or voices that tell you one thing and another telling you to do the opposite, you are the one who must figure out who is right and who is wrong. This is where we use God's free will to listen to the right or wrong advice and make a choice. NEVER be afraid in your hearts for the dark feeds on fear. The more we work with spirit, the more we attract them be them light or dark. There are many kinds of spirits, even earth bound dark ones. Some spirits that are visible to the eye are actually stuck in a time warp thinking that they are still where they use to be as a mortal. We see them as an imprint as they use to be. Some think they are protecting their property, some are waiting for a loved one who has already gone to the Light. And sometimes we're able to see or hear our spirit guides who are spirits of the Light who are the ones assigned to guide us through our lives. But, they aren't the only ones who communicate on a regular basis. Mine has told me that however the message can be delivered will be done thereby allowing other Light spirits in so that the message can be given even when we don't even know it's being given even if it's by an angel. Some of our loved ones come in vivid dreams or call out our names as we awaken or fall asleep. Remember that as our body sleeps, our spirit doesn't thereby allowing our own spirit to visit with them. Treasure those moments because you've had a very real visitation that wouldn't come otherwise. If you find pennies, treasure them as well. My guide has explained that they can pick up pennies easily. I jokingly asked her one time why they couldn't find me a $50.00 bill. It's the coin that makes the difference. Pay attention when you find it. Did a loved one who has crossed enter your mind? It could be a very real gift from someone near and dear.
I also have pictures of spirits taken with my own camera and confirmed by my guide. They come on strong by looking wispy like cigarette smoke, yet no one was smoking in the house. If you look closely on some of them, you can make out the outlines of human figures. I have seen this wispyness with the naked eye. I have seen a husband manifest before my eyes smiling as I spoke with an elderly lady who was lovingly talking about him. I never let on, but he knew I could see him. It was hard to keep my eyes on her while we spoke because he was standing behind her.
As you can see, I am a God driven spiritualist. I'm as open as the day is long. Spiritualists come in many flavors all the way from how I am to many other different belief systems. Yes, they exist and that's alright if everyone doesn't believe in them. They will some day!!

many years ago I read a true story in Readers Digest about a young woman , pregnant
and with a daughter of about 6 years old , left florida to drive all the way to be with her husband stationed in Califotrnia ..... she had to cross the desert at one point, and while crossing she had engine problems , I think the radiator, or the thermostate... overheating... the woman got out of the car in the terrible heat,..the little girl was crying on the back seat in terrible pain ,.... suddenly comming down the road was an old beat up car with two elderly folks in it... they stopped and the old guy asked if he could be of help ?... the old woman attended to the child on the back seat,...
The car repaired ,.. and the child feeling better , the young woman was advised to drive on to the next town and to stop at the hospitol , as the little child needed medical attention... as the young woman drove off, thinking how lucky she was for those old folks to help out... as she looked into the rear mirror , she could`nt see the old couples car behind them....
She reached the town and headed for the hospitol , the child was in terrible pain again so she drove to the emergency entrance.... attendants took the little child in , as it turned out to be appendix... the young woman in the waiting lounge looked up from where she was sitting an saw a large picture on the wall of the old couple that had helped her in the desert ... she got up and read a under the picture that the old couple were the founders of this hospitol , and had passed away years prior (cant remember the date) The young woman absolutley freaked out !!!!.......

Thanks Kitticat for the backup. I wasn't sure if I was being too over emotional about it.
I just really felt for anyone that had a similar experience and didn't want them to take even a breath of that negativity to heart. I'm sure they already feel a myriad of emotions about the experiences already and don't need to read things such as that.

. the old woman attended to the child on the back seat,...The car repaired

ghosts fixing cars with ghost tools and ghost parts?

That must have been hard for the readers of Readers Digest to digest.

hey I just saw this thread today and wanted to say that I wasn't much of a believer in ghosts before. But since I got this new job at a behavioral home back in June, I'm starting to think that it might be possible?

I work in a residential behavioral home. I heard from my manger at the house that a person died in the home. Well actually more then one person could of died in the house because it was a medical home before it became a behavioral home. But often at night we hear strange noises, like someone walking around, a few times door's have opened, once the fire alarm went off late at night and there was no smoke or anyone even around it. But mostly we just hear strange noises late at night...

It did creep me out at first but now I guess I'm just getting use to the thought of us having a ghost at work...

One theory I've read behind why people see ghosts involves extremely low bass frequencies (infrasound around 18-19hz; lower than normally audible by humans).

The resonant frequency of the eye (a measurment based on eyeball pressure which basically determines how your eye detects vibrations) is 18hz. This means that infrasound with a frequenecy of around 18-19hz has the potential to interfere with the function of the eyes and their perception of different vibration waves. This interference is often accompanied by bizarre blurrings in vision, that can move or be different shapes and sizes depending on where the source of the infrasound is coming from.

The explanation behind why ghost sightings occur more in older buildings, such as abandoned houses or castles, is because of both the decay and erosion of these older buildings (allowing wind to pass through them in different ways, producing different, often infrasound waves) as well as the actual structure of the rooms (affecting the way in which these wavelengths bounce off things before reaching the eye.

Allow me to write an old story here for you all...

One day a scorpion was walking along the riverbank trying to find a way to get across the river that separated him from his desired location when he came across a frog sitting alongside the riverbank. The scorpion walked up to the frog and asked the frog if he would take him across the river by giving him a ride on his back. The frog quickly replied, "no he would not give the scorpion a ride." The scorpion then asked him why he would not give the ride. The frog replied, "because Mr. Scorpion if I were to give you a ride on my back we would only get half the way across and you would sting me and then I would drown." Quickly the scorpion replied, "but Mr. Frog, if I stung you then you would drown and if you drown then I would drown also. The frog thought for a minute and then said, "I guess you're right, then I will give you a ride." The scorpion jumps on the frogs back and they start crossing the river. Half way across the river the scorpion just drills the frog with his stinger. The frog immediately starts to panic as he feels the venom race through his veins and he quickly begins to become paralyzed. Just as he is taking his last breath and about to go down, the frog looks at the scorpion and asks "but why?" The scorpion replies, "because that is my nature".

I agree with theartistguy. Ghosts and spirits are separate entities. I've seen both and I've experienced interaction with both. I've had spirits come visit me to help me with healing. I've convinced ghosts to go on to the light.

One example. There used to be a young ghost staying in my basement. She was a mischievous one and came upstairs at night. She was afraid to go. I would tell her to go on to the light and she would peep around the door and grin sheepishly at me. Finally, after much talking and reassurance, she left. She didn't scare me, I just felt she would be happier going to the light than staying in a basement.
