| What do you think about people who have psychics' readings?

I know another man who lives in NY/Florida who consults with the FBI and local police departments.
A number of self-claimed "psychics" make a point of contacting police when there's a missing person & offering their services and a mass of vague imprecise data to help solve the case. Then when the person is found ( dead or alive) they tailor the data to show their powers ( "See!!! I said they were near water, and they were found a few blocks from Water Avenue!!! That proves I have psychic powers!!!" ).
If they are, as they claim, psychic then why don't they contact the authoriities & help prevent the people fromgoing missing or being killed?
Hey wait a minute!!! I just realized I'm psychic!!! There is going to be a murder/suicide in the late spring ( no,I'm not sure which spring, could be next year or some year after that) and will take place near a river ( or maybe near River Street, Red River Community College, Red River Bookstore or perhaps the surname of the people involved is River.... or it may be the woman's maiden name). Maybe I better contact the police & let themknow it's gonna happen! | |

Far more likely to say something like:
"I'm getting a strong feeling... something about water coming through. The victim will be a female, and the unsub will be someone the victim knows. Yes, there's definitely a familiarity feeling. The weapon will be near the body, I can see it in the unsub's hand. It's a small one handed object - perhaps a knife or gun... I'm not quite clear on this, but I can make something out in their hand.The body will be within 50 miles of the victim's home. I'm being taken there now... there's a bridge, it's dark. I'm seeing some trees just off the road. I can make out a structure nearby. The body's here."
All of which can be gleaned by a 5 min internet search on crime statistics. If I sent out enough predictions - I too would get seemingly accurate "hits". It's truly not that difficult.
It's interesting that the few incidents where psychics are given credit for assisting:
1) Don't have an accurate record of what exactly their predictions were (ie, How detailed were they? How many hits vs misses did they have?)
2) Why didn't they just prevent this nasty thing from happening in the first place? If "the spirits didn't want to intervene" then - why the sudden interest now?
3) Anyone can guess right from time to time - where's the repeatability? Why can't they do this for the other unsolved murders, robberies, child abductions & rapes in the area?
4) If they're so darned accurate / good - why are police afraid to admit they're using them? I understand it may seem odd, but if they have a tool that decisively reduces crime, with great accuracy & repeatability - that "tool" would stand on it's own merit, no matter how "odd" or paranormal... and be one HECK of a deterrent.
People who actually have psionic abilities don't talk about them.
Busting out the old, "The absence of evidence is evidence" junk already. *yawn*

The police departments of the 50 largest U.S. cities were surveyed about their use of ‘psychics.’ Nearly two-thirds have never used psychics. None said psychics provided information more useful than that from other sources. Some comments were quite negative.

That attitude right there is why I do readings for free and only for close friends and family members. Believe what you choose; it is your right.
And there's nothing wrong with that, I have a problemwith gullible people paying the psychic hotlines or answering the psychic ads in personalcolumns of the newspapers.

It gives gifted people a bad rap. Most keep themselves in the closet because of it and never ever charge for providing someone with information they feel needed to be shared. What do you think about people who have psychics' readings?
It's not a big deal ..really .. But I do feel sorry for those who get suckered into Paying for what is basically manipulation, psychology and guesswork.
I know - I "Used To" be one of those who read cards and palms .. I was good too .. there are still people (20 years later) asking me to do a reading for them!! And 'they' don't believe me when I tell them the Truth .. so .. what do I think of people who have psychic readings? I feel sorry for them.. IF they're not just being Entertained..
It's a con job. IMO - IF a person were truelly psychic they'd be busy warning people about disasters .. at least one would hope! | |

I do love getting a tarot reading sometimes when there is a problem in my life that i can't seem to overcome to see if the cards can give me new material to work with or a new perspective on the situation. Sometimes i find myself in something too deep so i can't see the wood for the trees so it can be helpful for me. I have also gotten a astrology reading once for similar reasons. | |

I have a friend who does them and her accuracy is almost scarey. She sees things that only an x ray or blood tests should be able to see! She sees the bad act you're committing against yourself or someone else or the bad acts they are committing against you or others. She will tell you what you need to work on to get to where you want to be and more. She does this for strangers and people she knows nothing about. Anyone she has read once always asks her to read them again or they are freaked out by how accurate she was and afraid to be read again. I'm not surprised your therapist recognizes there can be a huge benefit to them! | |

Posted: 10/1/2009 11:31:53 AM | I have premonitions of family members deaths, they come to me in dreams and sit with me at their funeral and we discuss their life and death. When I have tried to warn people I have been told that they're fine and they just had a physical not to worry. I have been right 4 out of 5 times. The 5th time was apparently my fear of my Father being in a car accident.
I use the Tarot and it is accurate more often than not. When it's not, it's obvious it's not.
I have gone to psychics and I have never met one I consider to be real. Instead I find they are just are able to offer advice from a different point of view.
Mediums on the other hand come in two flavors, charlatan and right on. Sure there are fakes, but that doesn't mean every one you meet is a fake. | |

Posted: 10/1/2009 5:27:51 PM | Anyone else find it interesting the only evidence for = anecdotal evidence? If given 2 people who give the same results (scary accurate predictions / readings) - one tells you they're a charlatan, the other tells you they're real... which is more reasonable to assume:
* Both are faking, one's just dishonest about it
* Both are telling the truth

Anyone can say what they want about psychics but my experience was real. She told me things that only my husband and I would of known. General statements were not made. Things that she told me were precised. Maybe the people that are skeptical are that way because there is that fear of the unknown. Do I think that there are phonies out there? Yes, I do. People tend to feed off of others grief and pain. | |

My friend went to a psychic who told her she had cancer. She had no symptoms what so ever.
