| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/11/2008 5:40:34 AM | Cinderella was a great band, but they seemed to have gotten over-run with disaster. When the singer ended up with the problems with his vocal cords, they ended up cancelling shows & vanished while he went for surgury & recovered. Then when they tried to make a come-back, it seems that they were no longer popular.
Judas Priest had been going strong since the 1970's - same line-up except for the drummer, except when you count that brief stint when Halford was no longer part of the group & had Ripper Owens. He was originally a member of one of those tribute bands, & Glenn & KK happened to hear them perform (after Rob Halford was gone), & ... well - I wonder how he felt when they asked Owens to join.
Deep Pueple has also been around since - well - the 1960's - counting the days that they were not really metal. There's also been a lot of parallels with Black Sabbath when you take a look at the various personnel.

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/11/2008 5:24:18 PM | dear god you hit the nail on the head
this . . . "special" subgenre of rock/metal gets its very own title from me: hair metal
often made to be cookie cutter ish like boybands of the backstreet ilk, they were simply meant to capitalize on a certain style which was good . . .. before they decided to mass market it to the point where it makes most people vomit what they had for last week's supper up.
however, there IS a lot of good hair bands out there that simply got lumped in with the rest due to the timing in which they broke out on the scene. . . so not knocking them at all, just those damn posers . . .lol

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/11/2008 11:36:26 PM | metal is probably the biggest and most sub-genre filled kinda of music out there. there's lots of great stuff but also lots of shit as well. just depends what kinda of metal you are looking for. that's whats great about metal.
there's doom, sludge, death, progressive, stoner/groove, black, heavy metal, metalcore, industrial metal, etc etc. some people like all the sub-genre's but some people like only a few. and each genre has many great bands.

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/12/2008 5:16:51 AM | Just felt I should point out that Motorhead and AC/DC do not consider themselves Metal or Hard Rock. Both groups have maintained they are Rock 'n' Roll instead.
Of course, Iggy Pop once said that the public will tell you what you are. You have little choice in the matter. I tend to agree.
Also, Motorhead write/record/perform ballads often. Hell, they even had a spoken word version of "Orgasmatron" on a live album as a studio cut!

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/12/2008 3:26:49 PM | Wpould you guys consider Disturbed as Metal?
Godsmack? Uriah Heep? Celtic Frost? Slayer? Megadeth? Alice in Chains? Dokken? Dimmu Borgir?
Hair bands sucked.. I was there... and saw Metallica take back the name of metal. cool.
I saw a list once of metal bands and they had Iron Maiden, Rammstein, and Quennsryche with Bon Jovi/Poison on the same page... a bleedin' blasphemy really.
Judas Priest wasa definitely metal, IMHO. Best rock scream ever (Rob Halford)

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/12/2008 7:58:21 PM | I'm a type of person that considers Deep Purple Heavy Metal.
When you say Metal, there are SO many different types, that it has become pretty much just as, how can I say, Uniform as the term 'Rock'
Who can't fit under Rock? no one...same with metal these days, the different genres have lost their gusto since the 90's...and now that we are in the 2000's and the crappy music has taken over the 'good' music....did anyone watch the grammies this year? I wouldn't count on it, seeing that this years grammies was the lowest watched in Grammy history...
Music, has taken a turn...the 50's were the start of something new...the 60's were the powerhouse....70's was the pinnacle....the 80's, we saw the decline....the 90's we saw the final push....the 2000's...we are seeing the downfall....while so many people are now, drifting back to the days of old...I remember back in High school...sophomore year, it was 50 Cent, Good Charlotte, and The Used (I actually looked it up...lol) Junior Year was Led Zeppelin, AFI, and Britney Spears...and Senior Year, it was Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and AC/DC...
The point I'm trying to make....anyone can call themselves anything, and there isn't anything or anyone that can change that...it's really quite sad...they don't come like they used to...you don't have those, Pink Floyd's, or Led Zeppelin's, or Jimi Hendrix's anymore...it's all the same regurgitated recycled fluff filled crap nowadays that have been around for the past 20 years, it's time for something new...

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/14/2008 8:03:31 AM | judas priest it starts there and ends withGWAR,the rest are just trying to be one or the other. give me 'beyond the relms of death any day'. theres no swing in this current metal. The other deciding factor is studded arm bands,if the studs / spikes arnt making it hard for you to play your guitar then your not metal. what would would I know I think Little Richard was 10 times tougher than all metal bands put together!! | |

| Metal/Hard Rock bands But Are They Really Posted: 2/15/2008 9:32:08 PM | I don't listen to radio anymore (well.. internet radio) or watch Much.. or whatever
Radio USED to be really cool... back when the DJ's actually ran their shows (70's until EARLY 80's) Now it sucks so bad I don't even turn it on in the car... unless I need a road report for weather. The best music is RARELY on the radio. You MIGHT get lucky with a late night dj... once in a blue moon. For that matter the best music rarely ever makes it to the "popular" antenna at all.
and WHY OH WHY are 99% of clubs playing that noise called technopop? I can't even go out anymore.
Thanks for letting me b!tch
