"Those kids will outgrow listening to that stuff so loud and soon start complaining about the next generation. "

Maybe not.

It is funny that in the Latin country that I spend so much time in their isn't any age difference in the muscial taste or preferance of how loud it is played. If you think it get loud here.............even I get suprised how loud it is there. But...........tiny children daning with grandparents and even great grandparents, smiling like crazy, having a great time. No age gap. I don't know why.

If you ever go on one of their busses, you won't believe the noise level. For me it just adds to the energy in the air, but that is me.

I can remember back to my property law studies, a law something like "the title to a home gives the owner the right to enjoy their property". I try to remember that I am not the only one who has the right to enjoy their home (or the town for that matter).

During the year, various fests happen at the other side of the conservation area. Because there is water in between the sound magnifies. It wouldn't bother me if it was my kind of music, but on the hot summer nights when music I don't enjoy is being played.

Moraima, OK,, its the loudness you are complaining about.... and I've experienced it and I'm not crazy about it but I still think you sound like a bunch of 'grannies'. Maybe I'd be more upset if it happened more often but in my 'town' Toronto.... home to over 3 million I beleive, we have so much diversity and differences and preferences that its just not worth griping over...

So my answer to OP is .... YES you ARE getting old when you start complaing about stuff like that.

Sounds like a good answer... except it is not just "old folk" who complain about the specific noise the OP is talking about.
I could accept it as "just my age" if it were just 'grannies' that complain.
True, though, that city dwellers may not be bothered by it as much as town or country dwellers. That I don't know.
Once again, it's not the type of music... it's the level of noise.
It HURTS.

"Moraima, OK,, its the loudness you are complaining about'

I am NOT complaining about the loudness of any noise. I am just saying that different types of noise both different people. Some people get upset when a dog bark for a few minutes. Some people don't like the sound of noisy vehicles etc. I am just saying that human beings and their livestyles cause noisy, some is white noise and some is just nasty.

Personally, I only play my music loud within the four walls of my home, and within my vehicle (when I am alone). I don't ask anyone else to listen to it (live far enough away from neighbours). If I was to starting getting upset over thing like noise, it would make me unhappy, not the person making the noise.

I don't want to live/won't live in any place that looses it's mind with rules for everything. I wouldn't feel free in a place like that. Hey, that is just me.

A much bigger problem for me is neighbours spraying poisons than noise.

"pearl" ... I'm honestly thinking you do not know what I am speaking of.

I'm speaking of windows vibrating, dishes in my cupboard rattling ... NOISE ... BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM ... coming from passing cars driving slowly down our neighborhood streets. Believe me, if passing cars have never rattled the dishes in your cupboards, then you can't imagine what I speak of. This happens to me several times a day.

I'm talking about being trapped in rush hour traffic with such a car right next to you or right behind you ... BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM ... for miles and miles your rear view mirror and even the steering wheel of your car is vibrating.

The sounds that "moraima" describe are not at all annoying to me ... it's just happy people enjoying their cultural music ... perhaps somewhat louder than you or I would listen, but nonetheless, not vibrating the dishes out of our cupboards.

I can live just fine with neighborhood noises ... dogs barking, people talking loudly, cripies even my neighbor who apparently owns a set a drums that he beats around on from time to time. None of that is a problem, because it does not "vibrate the dishes out of my cupboards", it does not awaken me from a sound sleep.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen (heard) those cars around on the street and they do not move over for emergency vehicles ... because they don't hear them coming. It also prevents us other drivers from hearing the emergency vehicles from approaching as well.

Let's just put it this way ... a train rolling by my back yard would be more subtle!!!!

In Gulfport MS for BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM you can get fine up to $ 500.00 I think. I don’t know if any one got fined because it is fairly new, but I wish we had it in my town too.

I have written a letter to the board of directors of the home owner's association here and they're working on it.

Apparently there is some sort of rule about unnecessary noise from 10 PM to 8 AM with a little clause that excludes occasional private celebrations (which is understandable), but I believe when the rules were written, they never thought they'd be dealing with someone like I described in an above post ... the guy who said he just didn't care how much his NOISE polluted the neighborhood.

I drove by there the other day (it's on the way to my mail box) and note that the two homes on the right and two homes on the left of him as well as the home across from him are all up for sale. Gee I can't imagine why ...

I have a neighbor somewhere on my street who leaves for work an hour before I even get up out of bed. He always drives away with his music blaring, so loud that my window shakes and the glasses in the china cabinet vibrate!!

Don't get me started on the yahoos who drive around all over town with their so-called music loud enough for everyone within a mile radius to hear, or those who sit at the back of the bus with earphones in and the tunes so loud that even the bus driver can hear it. By the time these characters reach the age of 50, maybe even 40, they will be stone deaf!!

** I guess it's obvious I didn't read through the other replies. Oh well, I still feel better for airing my displeasure!! Yes, I remember the neighbours complaining when I would turn the volume up on my hifi, back in the days of my youth. LOL!!!

Ok now I've got the silly giggles and it has nothing to do with the wine I just had. ( only 2 glasses honestly). Everytime you write the word BA-BOOM I get these funny images in head. Are you sure you don't live under a flight path by the airport or under the subway tracks?
Seriously.... giggle giggle.... I'm sorry Cotter, I guess it just happens to me so rarely that I don't see the big deal.... I guess if were to happen really often I'd be annoyed too.

Before dawn ever morning a neighbour and their kids crash around as they load Mom and Dad's vehicles for their day, waking me from a sound sleep. I am sure they are just kids making noise so it has to be ok. Now if it is loud music of a certain kind that is different?

Both cases in the above are disrespectful.

Some times I have to leave in the mid of the night when going away on business or pleasure travel. I do my best not to make a sound to wake anyone up. Do others even think about the noise they are making...............not so much. The world is all about them, so their noise doesn't matter.

No ... but those "edges" that can be found on many campers and boats counter tops are fast becoming a consideration ...

I do my best not to make a sound to wake anyone up.
Same here ... I work the 1500 to 2330 shift. I often have to work much later ... don't get in until 0230 in the AM. I'm always careful to close my car door quietly and lock it without the "honking" electronic key button.

When trying to sleep until at least 1000 or 1100, I never say anything to my neighbors who are out there mowing at 0700 or running their weed whackers. Hey, I know my schedule is not like most others' and I do not expect them to live their lives around me. I just put on something in my bedroom that makes just enough noise to drown all that stuff out so I can sleep. Unfortunately, it does not cover up that BA-BOOM crap ...

.

Where I live now is very quiet. I was never an apartment dweller before and so was worried about moving here -- even though everyone assured me that it was “adults only” and quiet. Still, there are almost 300 apartments in this building, so I didn’t really believe it.

But, I got the apartment I wanted, with a den and overlooking the park out back, so I took it.

Turns out that all my neighbors are single women living alone and very quiet. (Almost 80% of the building is single women living alone.) I hear voices in the hall maybe twice a week, but that’s about it when I’m inside my apartment. Even the park out back is rather quiet. When people wish to socialize, they go down to the common areas on the first floor where there are various facilities for that.

Of course, on Fourth of July I got a little surprise. The City has a fireworks display and they are lit off about 200 yards from this building. And, being on the seventh floor, it often looks as though I am actually “in” some of the fireworks! However, that sounded like a good excuse for a party to me, so I invited a few people over and lots of us had a front row seat for that.

Yeah, I even heard a loud boom-box once. Just once, though -- at night, and that didn’t last long. The police station is just the other side of the park and they must have heard it, too. So, the kids were removed from the park quickly. The park is open 24/7, but not for those who bother others.

Truthfully, I was not too sure how long I could take this apartment living. But, now I like it and see absolutely no reason for moving, unless I leave the state. I’m very comfortable here.

Oh, and my den is isolated from other apartments, so I can make almost as much noise as I wish in here. The woman who had the apartment before me played a baby grand piano in the den and the neighbors said they never heard it. I’m usually in the den, so no one even knows I’m home. But, like everyone else around here, I’m usually rather quiet.

Closer to Detroit, we frequently hear that loud, obnoxious boom, boom, boom coming from vehicles. Here, the rule is that if it can be heard ten feet from the vehicle, they are ticketed. And, because the police department is so close, I cannot drive much more than a mile in any direction without seeing a police car. That slowed down my driving a lot, but it also keeps the noise level down.

Now, I’ll have to admit that my little utility vehicle has a 200 watt CD player and nine speakers. But, unless I take the top off on a nice day, I’m quite sure that the ten foot noise rule will apply to me, too.

Huh? I can't hear you! The dogs are barking at the BA BOOMING driving down the street 3 blocks away!

Intolerant? No. It is called noise pollution. Just like second hand smoke can cause cancer, noise pollution can cause hearing loss. It is something you shouldn't have to tolerate. Now, how you stop it......that I have no answer for.

Like it or not people make noise. The way I see it there are two choices. Learn to deal with the noise, or move to a place with no people.

Most places that we live become more built up all the time. Some of them become run down, so people care less about what is going on. Neighbourhood children age, and then their musical taste changes. God help me if all the neighbourhood youngests get motorcycles. (ps I live motorcycles, just not an army of them coming and going at midnight.)

I would rather put up with noise than other negative behaviour that could be happening. Nobody plays ba-boom while committing crimes.

Oh "moraima ... thank you so much. That honestly made my day.

You are so right. As long as I'm "hearing" the "BA-BOOMING", they are certainly not sitting there emptying the neighbor's house of all their belongings ...

The way I look at it as long as people are attention seeking most of them remain harmless.

Whether it be playing BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM or always being in your neighbours faces sitting on the sidewalk or playing a noisy game on the driveway (instead of in the backyard) the biggest point is to be noticed.

As the motorcyle saying goes "Loud pipes save Lives". Shortly after school gets out, I often crank my radio. It saves me have to stop in the middle of the road for kids that aren't paying attention to traffic. Amazing how they can't hear vehicles, but always stop and look to where BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM is coming from.

If you were younger and invited into that car the music wouldn't have bothered you because everybody in the car was your friend and it's fun. However now you have reached maturity and are more informed at what is and isn't good for you. Your friend base may have also eroded so now Ba-Boom, Ba-Boom is just that, bass without meaning or perhaps a reminder of loss of youth and invulnerability to everything
I work in a renovation center and sell house wire as well as wire for other applications. A customer , teenager, who looked a little out of it, asked for the thickest gauge wire I sold, for his 2000 watt carsystem. 2000 watts? As I cut the wire i thought to myself I'm not going for a ride in that car. Im also thinking he will need a hearing aid later. The kids with these high-power systems are thinking they are invulnerable and free to do what they want. They also are probably bad in Physics thinking the sound can't be heard beyond a certain radius of the car and all the cigarette smoke always goes out a window when it's opened a crack

"bass without meaning or perhaps a reminder of loss of youth and invulnerability to everything"

It isn't without meaning if the mature older folks enjoy it just as much as the younger people. It feels so good being in a zone (by myself) in my vehicle listen to what I like, which happens to be very close to BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM. So close that people who are into pop music probably think it is RAP. (Raw American Poetry for those who don't know what it means.) It is all based (no pun intended) on beats per minute. Raggaton is both a type of music and a dance. The translation of the dance is to vibrate your body.

Believe it or not I get the same disgusted feeling what I am exposed to Rock, Pop, and Country Music.

Would/do all of you folk who get annoyed by BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM, be as annoyed if it was pop/rock/country being played? I think quite a few over 45's wouldn't.

Cotter - honestly, I don't know which is worse the BA-BOOM boxes, or sitting in a restaurant with a baby/toddler screaming at the top of their lungs! I think I'll take the boom box over a screaming baby/toddler any day.

While I don't appreciate the boom boxes, to me, it's sweetness when I know these folks that play these things will eventually be shopping for hearing aids. That day will come, or they will blow out the windows in their cars.

"they will blow out the windows in their cars. "

Hint: windows must be left open slightly for safety reasons.

How many plane trip have been agony with a small child/baby screaming non stop?
At a time like that, I always put on the earphones and crank the BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM.
So much more rewarding than wanting to go over, and ask the parent why they don't get that small children don't understand the ear pressure issue, and are going to complain. Can't understand anyone going on vacation with a small child, or sitting in their seat expecting the rest of the passenger to put up with them. Thank God for child free resorts.

Is that intolerant enough?
