NO, I don't think you're too intolerant. It bugs the heck out of me too.
I'm thankful to live in a neighborhood where I rarely hear it at home.

No.....you are not....BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM is rude, it is noise pollution, and it is not good for the emotional or physical health of those exposed to it.

Damn it, my loud noise is better than your loud noise.
I have the right to damage my ears in any manner I choose and claim the way you are damaging yours is going to make me puke.

Then again, I've been known to pull the plug on some musician who thinks he needs drown out everyone else.

I see volume as necessary for rap because no one would listen to the crap without it. Have you ever heard of a famous rap instrumentalist? There aren't any. Anyone can buy a program of sound loops and turn it up but to actually practice an instrument that carries a tune takes practice.

If people think they want to listen to rap crap, so what. If they want to rattle the china in your house, give them a ticket.

For those that insist on damaging their own ears and drive, I'd vote for special warning stickers so other drivers could tell when drivers can't hear.

Loud pipes saving lives is another myth. Drivers cause accidents not vehicles. if a car is sidswiped in a fender bender, it's inhabitants will probably live unhurt. If a bike is sideswiped, it's operator is sliding on the ground without brakes. The volume of his pipes had nothing to do with it.

The guy with loud pipes is actually putting himself in more danger. Leaving a lot of people in his wake with reactions like the OP.javascript:smilie('')javascript:smilie('')

I can see it now ... not only the "sight" test when we renew our driver's license ... but a hearing test as well.

Problem is ... our hearing could be just fine, but if one of those BA-BOOM cars is sitting next to us in traffic, we still wouldn't be able to hear an emergency vehicle approaching.

I saw just such a thing the other day. I saw the blinking lights of an emergency vehicle in my rear view mirror. Most of us began pulling off to the right, but as it passed, there in front of it ... actually blocking it ... was a car BA-BOOMING along ... apparently no intention of pulling over.

So not only did they apparently NOT hear the emergency vehicle ... they were so busy talking and "rapping" with the BA-BOOMING that they did NOT bother to glance in the rear view mirror either.

Rear view mirrors are useless in that situation. They are vibrating so much that any image in them is just a bbblurrr.

I venture that in most cases, they crank the car stereo because either the landlord won't let them, or Mommy and Daddy won't. - I know I did when I was young ... used to watch them tubes just a-pulsin' to Gene Krupa's beat. Neat-o Daddy-o!

I have to confess that I do drive around with loud rock music playing but I keep my windows closed and I don't think my boom level is too bad.... I hope. I know some young guys actually rig the back of their cars with huge speakers...but....I have to say, how long does this really inconvenience someone who pulls up next to you at the lights? Perhaps 2 or 3 mins? Even driving by your house, same....2 or 3 mins. Pumping gas? Maybe 5 mins most. My point is...its just a blip in your life and not worth getting annoyed with.

Now, what about those leaf blowers? OMG those things can go on and on for hours it seems! And not even rhythmic....just a constant whine. That can just burrow into your skull and drive you nuts. Why can't they use rakes? Whoever invented leaf blowers should be tied up and made to listen to them for a few hours. In fact, maybe they should use it as torture for those suspected terrorists to get info? I think it could work! I'd spill the beans after just half an hour.

What annoys me is when someone's BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM is drowning out my own BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM. It's OK if it's the same BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM on the radio, but if it's a BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM that I don't like, it really annoys me. But I sit there for the .5 minute or so and tolerate it. :)

Well I get annoyed at that crap too, so I just crank up the Rolling Stones until I don't hear it anymore. Or I remember back in the day my 1939 Harley Davidson with straight-though fake mufflers and loving the sound when I backed off the throttle, especially at 3:00 am when everyone else was quiet and there are plenty of houses around to bounce the sound back. No lady who rode on it ever complained, and one told me it had a certain vibration ...

I am just old enough to remember grownups ranting and raving about how Elvis and rock and roll music were going to corrupt an entire generation. Then Grace Slick came along, sang White Rabbit a few times, and proved them right. Bring back the Sons of the Pioneers and "Cool Water" I say! "Chost Riders in the Sky" forever!

Oh Dear ... here we go again.

We thought we had pretty much flushed them all out of the neighborhood and what to our wondering ears should appear? Another BA-BOOM rattle box cruising our quiet neighborhood streets again last night ... or should I say ... very early this AM for about 30 minutes.

It was really quite strange. We have no idea what they wanted as they really never appeared to stop anywhere ... just entered the community (which is quite small ... only a few streets) and just cruised. We could hear him making his way through the streets ... cruising through them several times.

Actually ... the BA-BOOM was somewhat "retarded" in that it sounded like it had a buzz on it much like a "broken" speaker gets ... when someone has cranked it too high and it breaks?

It was annoying but also quite pathetic at the same time.

A little old cheap A$$ car with his "stifled" BA-BOOM BA-BOOM just cruising our streets at around 1 AM ... staying long enough to annoy those of us who were still up ... long enough to awaken others who had just gone to bed ... then leaving as mysteriously as he had appeared.

Very strange.

Did I ask to listen to their music? No! But believe it or not, every once in a while I hear something I like. I've even tried to ask who the artist is. Ussually I just get a thumbs up cause they can't hear me. But as anoying as this may be, you only have to be at a light or in traffic for a few moments. My stereo sound goes all the way up to 45, but I ussually keep it on 29. Perhaps I am lossing my hearing as well. Hmmmmmm

I think people who "break the peace and cleanliness of neighborhoods" (Ba-Boomers and Litterbugs") should be FINED HEAVILY! It seems that the only thing people understand...and the only way to correct bad behavior anymore is to hit them in the wallet, because appealing to their (non-existant) sense of right and wrong is futile.....

I, for one, LOVE music, and I like to play it loud!! However, I agree that those d*mn "boom cars" are a real annoyance. I play my music within the confines of my own home, and don't disrupt the neighbors with it. I've got one of those BA-BOOM cars right next to me, and it's true, you can't even talk on the phone when they're near.

Personally, I don't think it's intolerance or an age thing, I think it's just a common courtesy issue that those idjuts in those cars don't care about. Makes a person wonder what the future holds...surely not much "peace on earth"!

Unfortunately the world does not unfold exactly as I think it should. Likewise people can be incredibly inconsiderate and fail to act strictly in accordance with my plan for their lives.

If I were a god I'd probably get upset and do something about it - like smite them with a bolt of lightning or two. However that is not the case.

So I try to prioritize and select the things that are worth really getting upset over, even though I have no control over them. Right now I'm rather preoccupied with being upset with world hunger, corporate ethics, whale hunting, lying politicians and illegitimate imperialist wars. Oh ....and of course, the price of gas and the amount of time I spend fretting over things I have no control over.

To be honest - I find the relatively harmless background level of daily silliness to be generally amusing (most of the time). That includes BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM whatever....

(besides... I like loud music myself from time to time)

There is a family in my neighbourhood who has several young very noisy children. They scream morning, noon and night. They can't communicate with each other without screaming. (Funny things is both parents are teachers )

I was thinking today that I should record there noisy and play it back from the comfort of my property just to see if they would understand that they are the only people in a large area who cause constant noisy.

It is so tempting to play my BA-BOOM to cover their screaming, but I save my BA-BOOM for when I am driving because that is where I enjoy it the most.

It is funny, I am also posting in the silverhaired dancing machine thread. There seems to be a whole lot of people my age that think only there music isn't a problem

OP-
Me, me, me - I don't like it either!

When my daughter was 17 -18 years old and coming home at night after I was in bed (and asleep!) her BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM!! always woke me up so I could check whether or not she made curfew!

The downside of listening to music that loud? My now 21-year old daughter is losing her hearing!

Pass it on - 'cuz they sure don't listen when we tell 'em!

regardless of style preferences, I don't think the question here has anything to do with expecting you to listen to what another person likes, but if another person forcing you to listen to their particular type of music. That is not only disrespectful, but also being a bully. Isn't the general (non physical) definition of rape the uninvited forcing of oneself onto another? Couldn't that apply loosely here also? Some people like to try and force their music onto others especially if it interferes & gets that person (victim) to dwelling mentally on the intrustion well after the light has turned green. In that way, the bully has won their own little 'victory' and 15 minutes of fame if they can rob you of something you cannot replace- your time.

I had that exact thing happen to me several years ago. I was sitting at a light & a BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM was sitting next to me, when the light turned green and both of us left, I could not hear that there was an ambulance coming up behind me in the lane I was turning into (it was obstructed by a tall truck, but I was unable to even hear the siren thanks to Ba-Boom, Ba-Boom. Here in Michigan, it is illegal not to pull over for an emergency vehicle. Ba-Boom, Ba-Boom isn't only a jerk & a safety hazard, but also a criminal ( and I don't care what kind of music is on).

Wow ... just spent the past 5 days in Columbus, Ohio and to my surprise ... I think I only heard that gawd-awful BA-BOOM, BA-BOOM a couple of times the entire time I was here.

I have my house up for sale down in Florida and want to move back up here. I sure hope my experience of the past 5 days is a good indication that Ohio is one of the states that is really buckling down on that noise pollution.

I grew up on heavy metal and punk music and trust me if I could find a way to annoy you with my music, I would !
Wow what a considerate thing to say. Hmmm ... only ten years younger than me and soooooo considerate of others. Please tell me you live no where's near Riverview, Florida or Columbus, Ohio. I still live in Riverview and want that to stay as quiet as possible before I move back to Columbus.

It is just part of being young and a rebel.
Well I was young once and quite the rebel ... but my parents raised me right. They taught me to be considerate of others.

I'm not sure what kind of people it was that raised the folks who somehow missed that ... but it really is possible to be rebellious and still be considerate of others.

"Some people like to try and force their music onto others "

Well.............................I really don't like pop music, rock of any kind, and I especially hate any type of country music. You can imagine how difficult it can be living in a society where the majority of people my age think it is second nature to have pop/rock/country playing 24/7. Fortunately I have learned to not hear it as anything more than white noise. However when the neighbour white noise gets out of hand, I just crank hip hop or alternative, techno or ragaeton. I then enjoy myself and I am no longer aware of what the neighbours are playing.

Last night I was at a bonfire that went on till 4:30 in the morning. There was an 80's radio station playing all night. I heard only what my friends were joking about, and tuned out the garbage noise. I did notice that often one of the people would say "I always hated that song/group". Finally I asked "Then why are you playing this music". "Ah....to lazy to change the station, I guess" was the answer.
