This is the part where I admit I didn't know there was Florida forums either, lol.

I just happened to have looked at someone's profile & posts on the Jersey Forum, and pondered.........hmmm, WTH is the Jersey forum?

DUH.

Oh, and for relevant content, Jax native here, back home after 10 years in Orlando, up for a GTG, impromptu or well organized.

I've just found this forum. I would be interested in any events and don't mind helping with the planning. I'm outside of Jacksonville but I'm willing to drive to have fun and meet nice people to have fun with. It's getting to be the party season and it's never too soon to start planning.

I'm glad that more people are finding the Florida forum and posting to the Jax area. Now we just need to get something going! Any ideas?

Well I saw that Orlando had a huge turnout for their bowling event. Most bowling centers have a bar area for drinks for those who drink. IS this something people in Jacksonville would want to do? I could set it up. If not bolwing offer some suggestions

Most bowling centers have a bar

I know I'm butting in..but, I'm bored..
the last thing that a woman wants to do on the first date is change shoes...again
she did that three times before she left and realized that she kicked 'em off in the car
well, it's hard for a man to explain
ladies, may I beg your pardon?

unless you're in a bowling league, prolly not
you want to get all whored up
waxed or shaved and anticipating
aromatically fascinating with fruit loofa'd aromatherapy
yanno?

These dolls want to paint themselves up like mardi gras
bowling ain't the only atmosphere that forgives faux pas
and bowling alleys only have like one bartender and a waitress
even during tournements
the vino flows to slow

Find a venue that can hold a bunch of people
a big bar with a dance floor and a couple pool tables
that would like to have some business from simple fishermen
I guess I better head back to the poetry forum

Hi, I know this conversation is a little old, but I plan events for an association that also is ALL OVER Jax. I find I get the best turn out if I advertise two weeks out and then twice in the 2nd week and almost daily the week of the event. I also usually work it near Tinseltown. That seems to be a central location for most. Easy off/on JTB and 9A.

There is a good selection of establishments and wide variety as well.

Good Luck!

Well, Brawny's comment certainly does not speak for me and I doubt it does for any of the ladies that have commented on this forum. I believe the forum was started to find a group event where people could mix and mingle. Bowling could be a start. I think Jax just needs someone to take the bull by the horns and organize something. Maybe once people get together they can discuss other possiblities. I recently took a suggestion from someone in the forum to try meetup and I went to a party. It was nice, I met some new people but I will say that when you have alcohol as the focus, not everyone has the same level of indulgence and sometimes you miss out on interacting with some really nice people because they are just too drunk to function. I would support the bowling outing if it were at a time I could attend. The only other suggestion I have is maybe meeting at a restaurant where you can have a drink if you like but would be more prone to conversation and possibly not over indulgence if you were at a club. A trip to a comedy club might also be good or the karaoke night that was mentioned previously. Feel free to email me if you set something up just in case I don't check the forum.

Well I am thinking we should attempt to put together a meet up for the 15th of December. This can work two ways. I still like the bowling idea, Nice and mellow and fun. for those who are bowling challenged there is always the bumper guards
We could do this and also make this to help the less fortunate. I think we should do this get together and ask everyone to bring a toy where we can donate it to Toys4Tots. I will call a bowling alley tomorrow and see if it will be okay. There is a 24 hour bowling center on Beach Blvd near southside blvd and another in Mandarin. A lot do Cosmic bowling om Saturdays and that adds spice with music.

Not living in Jacksonville anymore, but, I still read the Fla forums. Bowling is a great sport especially in the winter time, but, you are confined to a small number of people per lane. When bowling, you have to stay near your lane and not mingle for long near other lanes. This goes for all and could be a drawback for all. Plus, I stopped bowling because of a messed up left foot (I'm right handed) and even competed in pro events. I do know of a couple of ladies in the Jacksonville area that cannot bowl because of medical conditions too. Again, bowling is fun, but, I'd suggest you meet where everybody can mingle and not all are limited in participating. Just an opinion as I am not living there anymore.

Well, it seems you are the only person stepping up to put something together so if bowling is what you want to start with, lets give it a try. I understand what Cajan was saying about everyone not being able to bowl and it being difficult to mingle. I tend to have back problems so I might only get a game or two in. But if we rotate people on the lanes when the games are over, that could help them mingle more. I dont think we are trying to be a league or anything. I have been on the site almost a year and I dont see much happening in Jax. I think the Toys4Tots is a good idea and people can either participate or not, their choice. Beach Blvd is probably more centrally located than Mandarin but you pick the place and we will see who shows. I think its at least a start and if people come who don't bowl, they can help mix and mingle and come up with ideas for something else. I should be available to meet Dec 15. Was that the plan for the bowling or just to meet to get ideas going? If you went to the bowling party the Orlando group had steal some ideas that seemed to work for them and we can try it out here. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Oh, and I may need those bumper guards. Its been awhile since I last bowled.

I really do like Bourbon Bayou, and the Ramada on comdy nights, but where else is there to go? Ok Jacksonville, tell a newcomer what's up for the holidays. Is it really that bad here? I see that there's a winning NFL team, but they can't even sell enough tickets to keep from being blacked out. The Dolphins suck this year and they still sell good. I'm a Ravens fan and they suck really bad this year too, yet they're sold out through next season. And now, here I am in Jacksonville, no friends yet, and no where to go to meet any. At least, no where to meet grown folks. I know Duval is the largest county in the country, but isn't there somewhere we could have a get together that would satisfy most?

I went to Mudville and had a good time. The Karoake was pretty good. But I need more. Help!!!

There are alot of places to go that are not advertised. Try a suggestion that one made about "Attitudes". The two piece band has been there for a long time and they play c/w, rock, oldies, hip hop, etc. They mix it up. Drinks are reasonable too. Another thing that might interest people 40+ is the American Legion near Shore Line. If you were in the military, you qualify and if you have had a relative in, you qualify too. They have a pool and game nights along low priced drinks and even a coffee pot going at all times.

I'll probably have my 'Man' card revoked for asking, but, when is the next Jags game going to be televised? There's plenty of places where that could be background activity without being the exclusive focus.

Also, for those of us with kids, I've been to the MOSH and the Downtown Park thing on the river with a group of single parent friends for a day outing before, and we all had a good time.

All the other stuff sounds good to me as well. I'm easy.................well, I may be easy but I'm not cheap.

Hi PhatDiva,

Sorry I sort of forgot about your suggestion to go to Bourbon Bayou. I am working on my masters so its crunch time at the end of the term. I didn't mean to put you off. I have been in Jax about 11 years and I can't honestly tell you where else there is to go. I am not a club person but that seems to be most of the activities here. I recently took the advice of someone else in the forum and joined a group on meetup.com. We had a good time at a party and we are going to the comedy club at the Ramada next week. The site is down right now so I can't get the date but I will try to post it for you. You can check out the site and maybe find a group that interests you. I think Carolina's idea about the cosmic bowling is at least a start. Maybe we could meet there and put our heads together to get something else going later.

Hey Sling,

They are definitely gonna revoke your "Man" card cuz a lady is going to answer your football question! lol The Jags play in Indianapolis Dec 2 so that should be televised. You can check their schedule at http://www.jaguars.com/. I am actually a Steelers fan but thought I would help you out since the Jags need some support. I went to the game here a few years ago when the Steelers came and you would not know the game was in the Jags stadium. Steelers fans ruled the stadium . ...and we won that game too. Go Steelers! But here is a thought, we could get a group together to go to a Jags home game. It would either be against the Panthers on 12/9 or Oakland on 12/23. I looked at the Panthers game and saw the cheapest ticket was $42, but people tell me that you can get them much cheaper outside the stadium right before the game. Carolina might not sit with us though if we go when his team is there. Just another thought for something to do.

Hey Carolina Panthers If you can start a forum for setting up a bowling night I would be more than willing to go, I like bowling and I don't mind changing my shoes. I think this would give us a great opportunity to meet people. I'm game is anyone else? Bowling that is.

Hey PhatDiva and anyone else who may be interested, just getting back with information about the events with the meetup group. The group I joined is called the Jacksonville Professional Singles group. I went to one event and it seems like a fun group. They are going to the Comedy Zone as a group on Wed 12/5 at 7:00 pm. There is also a big party scheduled for Friday 12/14 called Black Friday. I am going to try to make the Comedy Zone but I have class until 6 so I may not make it. I am definitely going to the Black Friday party because it just happens to be my birthday and I will be done with finals and ready to celebrate. You can check out the group at http://singles.meetup.com/1189/. Feel free to join and RSVP for any of the events listed. So now we have some things going on. Hopefully Carolina Panther has the bowling confirmed for 12/15 and will get back to us soon.

Thanks CJ. Have your fun now, once you start your masters you find your time is very limited, especially if you work full time. But its worth it so good luck to you also.

If you don't join the site but still want to go and get with the group on 5th, ask for Monique (me) or Kristine (organizer). The group gets in for $5 and there is some special appetizer you can buy named after the group. I am going to try my best to make it so flag me down if you see me there.

For the rest of the forum, I sent an email to Carolina Panther and asked him to post so we have an update and know if the 12/15 bowling party is a go. He hasn't read his mail yet so please check back here for the info. So far it looks like we are going to the Beach Blvd bowling alley on 12/15 but he didn't give the time. Also, if you can bring a new/gently used toy for Toys4Tots we can help some kids while we mix and mingle. Hope to meet you there!

I am 33 and would gladly go to a get together with an "older" crowd. age doesn't matter when your having fun. Plus, you would be surprised at all the things you can learn from those who came before you. I go to gateway gun range and i am usually 20 to 30 years younger than my fellow shooters. a wealth of knowledge and experience on either side me. That being said, common interest knows no age.

Well, CP read my email and never gave the courtesy of a response. He changed his screen name so I didnt bother to email him again. Sorry but it looks like there won't be any bowling today. This is typically what happens when people try to get something together in Jax.

Goodmankeepingitreal seems to have the karaoke thing going. I pass by there on my way to work and Mudville has a large advertisment for it in the window. I may check it out this Wednesday so if you are interested let me know and we can meet up there. Rynomite has a valid point that common interest is key. So let's throw some ideas out there and see what we come up with. Personally, I would like to get a group together that wants to do more cultural events . .concerts, museums, plays. I like to travel, hit the beach or fairs. I am not much for clubbing and prefer not to have the constant drinking bash as an outing. So any ideas out there? I would love to hear them.
