| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 12:25:42 AM | Do you let your pets sleep with you when you are in a relationship? Absolutely. If so, what do you say to your "squeeze" if they object? Don't run, or they'll chase you down, and remember to shut the gate on your way out... What kind of pet do you have? One 60 lb. farter + One 55 lb. drooler + One 75 lb. farter/drooler. Would you dump your honey if they objected. Faster than you can say "Sit Ubu, Sit". | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 12:34:13 AM | Bleh! No pets allowed, except for general play. No pets watching... or sleeping...
fur, mites, lice, fleas, bleh... Not to mention, they can get in the way. And, they can wake you up in the night.
No way. | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 12:40:43 AM | Love me, love my schnoodle. I love my dog a lot and if he was use to sleeping with me no way would I give him the boot for a guy. Luckily for anyone else, he tends to like the couch, | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 1:33:24 AM | Do you let your pets sleep with you when you are in a relationship? Yes, I have a dog and yes he sleeps with me each night. He always has and he always will no matter if I am in a relationship or not.
If so, what do you say to your "squeeze" if they object? If someone objected then they are not the right one for me. I love my doggie and see no reason why he cannot sleep on the bed. If a man objected then he better find another place to sleep because I will pick my doggie over anyone on any day.
What kind of pet do you have? An eight year old Tabitian Spanial named Max.
Would you dump your honey if they objected. Just nosy.... I would not dump someone because they do not like my dog sleeping on the bed. If they ever wanted me to pick my dog or them then my dog is always going to win. If they tell me either the dog stops sleeping on the bed or it is over, then I guess it is over because I am not making my dog sleep without me when he likes sleeping with me.
As far as dog hair goes, that is why furniture is FURniture. *edit* sleep depervation=spelling mistakes

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 4:51:00 AM | | Much as I love animals, I've never allowed them to sleep in my bed. I might eventually make an exception for a dog, but my cat allergy is way too strong to sleep with one in the room sometimes, let alone in the bed. | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/10/2008 5:05:15 AM | | I have 2 bichons... Jake and Gus. They sleep with me every night; one on either side of me. Since I haven't been in any relationships, this hasn't been an issue.....BUT if I were to enter into a relationship, they'd have to go to their crates. Whoever loves me has to love my boys, but yeah, we'll draw the line on sleeping arrangements....lol. | |

My cats sleep with me every night. They would just scratch the door all night to get in if I didn't. If you love me, than you would have to love my cats.
Same thoughts here. My cats have been around through thick and thin and will still be around in the future. They sleep in my bed and have free run of the house. If someone doesn't like that, then we probably would not make a good match. And the cat situation wont be changing, so they would be the one to go.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/12/2008 9:35:14 PM | | Well, I do enjoy having my dogs sleep *on* the bed (not *in* it!) There's nothing as comforting as some warm bodies when you are alone and single. But when I've been in relationships, I've yet to have a BF that didn't snore like a train so I always chase him out of my room before we fall asleep as I'm too light a sleeper to deal with that, so it's never been an issue. I do keep a light sheet on the top of my bed which is washed frequently and I can remove if we are being intimate so that pet hair isn't an issue, which does help a lot. And definitely the dogs stay off the bed then! | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/12/2008 10:06:16 PM | I am currently without a pet that would sleep in my bed (I have a fish and he stays in his tank lol) but when I had my cat he always slept with me. But he was usually at the end of the bed.
I think it is fine to have pets sleep with you when you are in a relationship but there needs to be boundries.
I was in a relationship for two years with a man who had two Border Collies. Anyone that knows anything about the breed knows they are hyper. But I truly did love those dogs. He was used to sleeping with his dogs so they didn't bother him. He actually could sleep thru anything. The problem was they couldn't just lay still at the end of the king size bed. The one was pretty attached to me as I was to her. But I would wake up in the middle of the night with a 65lb dog on my chest. And the minute I moved she would wake up and start licking me. Yes very sweet but not at 2am when you are trying to sleep and you feel like you are suffocating. lol I also didn't get a whole lot of sleep which was very hard on me if it was a work night. I was absolutely exhausted all the time.
After several months of this I finally told him that if he wanted me to stay over on work nights that the dogs could not sleep with us. He wasn't thrilled but he understood so we compromised and on work nights that I stayed over they would be put into the kitchen with a radio on at night but on weekends they slept with us. After awhile I taught the dog that liked to sleep with me to just sleep with her head on my stomach. That way she could be near me but not crush me. lol I will admit that the dog hair was a pain. I would change the sheets the next day if they slept with us but no big deal. By the end of the two years we were together... I think those dogs liked me more then they liked him. LOL
One thing he and I totally agreed on tho... If there was intimacy going on... no dogs allowed in the room.
If you are someone that does not like pets and get involved with someone that has pets... you need to remember that most people view their pets as their children or as part of their family. I know I did when I had my cat. So if you are going to love them you need to learn to compromise on some things and also... you need to learn to love their pets.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 4/12/2008 10:36:09 PM | I have a pet, and he smells like a pet, he has his own bed outside where pets should be, he is very healthy and secure and has no behavioural problems,
Pets deserve to be treated like pets, and its unhealthy to use your pet as an emotional crutch and to subject others to it or expect them to live with it....
Pets smell no matter how much you bathe them, they malt even with short hair, and even the best trained pet will have the urge to leave their scent on some occasions its in their nature, the problem is people who have indoor pets, dont see it and dont smell it, they dont use toilet paper and their fore the cleanest pet will leave minute traces of faeces of urine when inside........
Of course some of you will deny these facts in favour of having your pet replacing human companionship and will ignore the facts of cleanliness, and what is best for the pet.
Your choice, but dont expect other's to live with it........

I have a pet, and he smells like a pet, he has his own bed outside where pets should be
Who decided where pets "should" be? There are many good reasons for them to be inside, not the least of which is that they typically live longer and healthier lives. Dogs are very social animals and I feel very sorry for those that are left outside alone for a great portion of their lives. It's fine for dogs to be outside dogs if they have a job, or you are someone like a rancher that is outside all the time with them as well. But too many dogs are simply left outside with little interaction and that is simply not healthy. Outdoor cats likewise typically live much shorter lives and are far more likely to be hit by cars, get poisoned, catch diseases or fight with other cats, etc.
Pets deserve to be treated like pets, and its unhealthy to use your pet as an emotional crutch and to subject others to it or expect them to live with it....
Of course pets should be treated like pets, but living indoors certainly has nothing to do with that. Nor does the fact that someone has a close relationship with their pet mean that they are using it as some "emotional crutch". And you can BET that anyone that wants to be part of my life is going to have to live with my dogs, that is a ridiculous statement to say that it is "unhealthy" to expect otherwise. That's like saying it's unhealthy to expect someone to want to live with my kids.
Pets smell no matter how much you bathe them Heck, you can say the same thing about people. We all have some odor that is always present, animals are no exception. And if your pets are outside all the time, I have no doubt that they have significant odor. But I would challenge anyone to come in my house and detect any pet odor at all. In fact, it's a bit of an issue when I visit my parents, as they love having my dogs visit since they don't have any odor, but my sister gets mad that hers are not allowed, because they definitely smell considerably. Difference...my dogs spend fairly little time outside, are brushed and bathed every week and are cleaned if necessary when they come in from being outside. Far from having unpleasant odor, they usually smell fresher and cleaner than I do! I do hospital visits with one dog, as do many people that do therapy work with their pets, do you think they would be allowed if there was some cleanliness issue with animals? It's long been understood that the human-animal bond has great health benefits for us, it has nothing to do with having your pet "replace human companionship". It's to supplement it, and I can tell you that I get far more benefit from spending a great deal of time with my pets, than someone that just leaves them outside and doesn't truly share their life with them.
