I stretched and then realize my fluffy cat called Diego was curled up next to me, he layed down with his head resting against the pillow, priceless! It is really priceless especially when I have something going on in life that worries me, they sense it, they come to offer comfort. There isn't anything in the world that gives me this fuzzy, warm feeling in my heart, like of a ball of fuzzy fur. I wrote a brief letter to someone from here, and I will borrow some information from what I wrote, but this is how I feel it:
" I love animals, I don't make any differentiation among them. I do however, feel very connected with cats, just something I cannot explain. I learnt from my spiritual, advanced soul friend, that there are spirits so pure and gentle, that are simply unable to incarnate into human body, and instead incarnate into cats and dogs instead. As far as humans are concerned, we have lots to learn on this earth, yes we do have brain, but what we do with it is comletely different matter.
I just want to laugh when people think they are the most important creatures on this planet, and in addition our planet suffers from our own stupidity - global warming - is just an example. We believe we have brains and this is what elevates us from other species, and in meantime we just don't seem to be able to put into work. "
Ok, so I don't think I stretch the original topic too much, but you understand why I do let my animals to sleep with me. Sometimes I even invite them to come to be with me : "Come my kittie, please ... I beg you"... lol
When they come, it is a real honour, they come because they want to be around me, because they love me ... cats wont' come to you if they don't like you, and also they are much more social than majority people think. They are different from dogs, cats are more like philosophers, and I think dogs love you unconditionally. ... Now, should I just shovel them off, so I can draw the line, are you kidding?
They are pure innocence, when they look at me with their deep gaze, sometimes I feel like they penetrate my soul with their gaze, there is such wisdom in their eyes, I feel very small, tiny and at awe...thank you for listening to my rumble...Mona Lisa smiles.

You sound like a prime candidate for vegetarianism/animal activism, if you're not already.
You get it!! | |

Keep rumbling all you want. Some of us enjoy your rumbles.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/18/2007 8:58:17 PM | Well, I have a small bed, so when I'm alone then pets in the bed with me is fine. If I'm NOT alone, then maybe one little cat if he doesn't object...but he would definitely have to want the pet on the bed or they aren't up there.
Maybe if I had a bigger bed, I'd feel differently...ha ha.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/18/2007 9:26:16 PM | ecaepydal, I have particularly mentioned cats and dogs in my post, as these are domesticated animals and are the main topic, should we allow them in bed. Of course there are others, like rabbits as an example... but we know some animals couldn't be with us in bed - tortoise par example.
Some people wonder about if he/she would accept them in bed. I think if the animal feels they are not welcome, they won't come to you, anyway... so, if you have a company, most likely your pet won't come to bed because they feel their territory is occupied, and they feel disappointed. I had this happening to me, and it was quite hilarious, because I knew in the morning they were so starved and deprived of beeing with me at night, I could see this worried look in their face, they were so concerned, priceless... we both laughed. Luckily, he was someone very connected with animal kingdom. I think when you are intimate with your partner, cats know and leave the room, these are my experiences with cats, but kittens can do something quite funny because they are so unaware of themselves. So, you people with dogs, what are your experiences like, do you have to shut the room or do they just leave on their own...curious. I have noticed cats were invisible when it was him and I, and as soon as he left the room, they came out of their hiding, with this worried look on their face, they felt abondoned, but not for too long.

The little mutt who has slept with me for over 7 years will never be kicked off the bed. When the 110lb+ dog comes on the bed, she will not be kicked off - she leaves when she is ready. Luckily she does not like to actually sleep on the bed .. just visits.

I don't think people are "pet haters" because they don't like animals in bed with them. Some people just feel like there should be a line there. A point where pet space ends and people space begins. "Three Dog Night" is not just the name of a band. Its an expression that comes from the north, describing how some nights were so cold that a hunter would take 3 dogs to bed with him for warmth. Any threshold between people space and animal space is artificially created, and a manifestation of modern urban society. Such thresholds don't exist in all areas of North Amercan society either. Its not uncommon to sleep in the same trailer/space as your horse at times. Think horses debate whether or not they should kick the humans out of their beds??

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/19/2007 11:59:50 AM | I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrior built like an Ox...no way does he get near my bed even if i do sleep alone now...and a parrot...not a good combination for a good nights sleep - never mind the goldfish. | |
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/19/2007 12:09:58 PM | I have an American Bulldog that is a total lugnut. He sleeps in bed with me. I actually sleep better with him using my butt as a pillow. He snores and its like getting a butt massage all night long
If I have a friend over and she wants to goof around then I kick him out of bed, simple as that.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/19/2007 11:17:04 PM | I have 2 cats and a dog they all at some point sleep in my bed. My 50lb dog however keeps me warmer then my 5lb cats. I dont think I have a choice quite frankly this is there house I just live here. I love my animals..... | |
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/19/2007 11:27:10 PM | personally i could not think of anything worse than having a cat or dog asleep in/on the bed with me and my partner.
I would not let my children in my bed so you can be assured no pet is getting in their either. I think it is gross and actually unhealthy in more ways than one.
no no no no no no no no - never ever ever ever am I going to sleep with an animal other than the human variety!

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/20/2007 12:08:02 AM | I have two cats and I let them sleep with me if they want. One time I had a guy sleep over and he did not want the cats on the bed. I closed the door and the cats kept us up all night crying and scratching the door. I will not do that again.
The cats and I are a packaged deal. I don't think I would be attracted to a guy who wasn't an animal person or who wouldn't allow pets in bed. I also wouldn't think that a long-term relationship could be possible with me if he was allergic. Pets make me happy and I would not be happy in an animal free home.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/20/2007 12:39:49 AM | 40 or 50 years ago anyone who allowed pets to sleep on their bed would have likely been considered, well, eccentric to say the least. But the prevaling cultural view has changed & is continuing to do so. Check out Jonathan Katz's 'The New Work of Dogs." In an increasingly alienating & impersonal world, pets now often function as our surrogate families, our "loved ones." The bond can be very strong.
My last girlfriend & I both had Blue Heelers (wicked fun critters!) And they were both "bed buddies." But 4 mammals, even in my king, was just too logistically complicated. So they'd sleep on their beds on the floor & sometimes join us for AM cuddling so they wouldn't feel totally displaced. (Trust me, you don't want a heeler as your adversary!)
If you have indoor pets, you know it's not called "furniture" for nothing! But as far as hygiene goes, you don't EVEN want to know how many pounds (yes, pounds!) of dead skin cells & mites are in you bedding, your pillows, your mattress at any given time.
You are, of course, free & welcome to deem pets on the bed as gross if you wish, as do some the consumpion of pork, raw oysters, etc. Doesn't make my ham sandwich any less tasty!

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/20/2007 7:22:40 AM | One thing for sure is a pet mostly dogs are very aware of whats going on around you when you are sleeping and if there is a fire or a intuder they will wake you up a lot of people have been saved by them. And it depends on where you live in the city or the country if they are indoor or outdoor anmials. | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 10:21:18 AM | One of my cats sleeps at the end of the bed... sometimes both do. That being said, IF I were to ever have someone in my bed with me, I'm pretty sure neither of them would sleep there while the other person is there.
The only reason I have them is because of a former roommate that wanted one and convinced me to get one as well so the other wouldn't be lonely. When that roommate left to move half way across the country to get married and start a new life, we discussed the fact that we didn't think it was fair to split them up as they were sisters and have been together since birth, so I took them. I would have never gotten cats on my own, but now that I have them and they've been with me for just over 6 years, I adore them to death. They are an amazing part of my life. Any guy I date will need to be OK with that. I won't get another one after they're gone, but eventually I would like to have a dog again... so Mr. Right will be someone that loves animals otherwise he's not Mr. Right for me.
I wouldn't dump my honey if they objected because any one that is my honey will have known well before they got to that point that I have them and we would have already determined that it's not an issue.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 10:47:09 AM | ummm wow pets in the bed, i understand people love their pets, which is fine but to have them in your bed while your sleeping? yeah nothing more exotic then having Rover or fluffy stick their nose up your ass while your sleeping? no wonder some of the non pet owners and pet owners are in constant battles
I find that so strange dont get me wrong I love animals but not in my bed, thats my space, its like people who let their pets on the table when you eat, what the hell is wrong with those people.
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 1:04:54 PM | To Damn funny Mahogany and thats coming from a pet owner........but we have a deal I don't sleep in her bed if she doesn't sleep in mine!!!!!!!!!!! | |
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 1:13:17 PM | | Ever been having sex and look up to see 2 cats staring at you with a puzzled look on their face. Its a really weird feeling, and they just keep staring and staring. Thats why pets go out of bed, when your with someone who your really interested in | |
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 1:38:55 PM | I think pets are grand but when I wake up and can't move because of a animal I dunno to be honest. I feel as if my space is invaded. It is my role as a pet owner to draw those lines. I can love my pet and also respect my place to have privacy in my own bed. I don't think that means I love them less. it is kind of like my own children...if I allowed them to sleep in my bed all the time...what would that teach them? I love my children and yet that is my own space..doesn't mean I don't love them. Just because it is pet doesn't make it right. I really would not want to share my bed with my pet or my child. And I love them both. | |

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 1:42:01 PM | Okeydokey... I've skimmed the posts up to this point and have come to the conclusion that the saying should be changed. Based on the responses of women to their pets...and ... men to theirs. To include those who don't have pets nor want pets.

| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 6:25:45 PM | | How disgusting it would be to wake up in the dark and roll over to kiss your sweety and kiss the pet, sicking so she would go or the pet i would hope the pet but if she wants the pet she cant have me. befor my wife passed away she had a dog that would sleep with her if i was not thier but if i was the dog was gone or he got kicked out of the bed my wife started to say something about it once and i stoped her i said the bed is hers and mine and not the dogs so if you the dog i will sleep eslewhere and it may not be at home. | |
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 6:30:09 PM | I think it depends on the pet to some extent.
if you have a cat that jumps on your bed every now and then, probably not a big deal.
on the other hand, if Walter the Farting Dog insists on sharing your pillow, well, thats a comopletely different issue all together!
|
| Pets in Bed Posted: 10/24/2007 6:59:36 PM | | at this point, i'd rather have them on the bed than on the keyboard ~ now, that's driving me batty! | |
