Gosh... I do wonder... what will happen once immigrant aliens are not around...
nobody will be able to cut my grass for 10 bucks anymore...
I hate to say it, but I tend to agree with asteliapuff39.
I am hauling 45,000 lbs of produce out of Cali right now. I just picked up some cabbage at a small farm outside Stockton. I saw what the mexicans were doing out there from picking to sorting to packaging the food. The guy loading my truck said he made $5 a hour with no overtime pay even though he worked 60 hours per week.
If you think groceries are expensive now, wait until Mr. Farmer has to pay prevailing wages for these tasks, assuming he could even find anyone to do them. | |

Hopefully if enough lawmakers sign on, the transition period would not break too many farmers, especially the little guy(but who cares about him anyway?) Also, hopefully too many jobs would not be transferred out of the country because the demand for food will not fall just because the industry is having problems. | |

That's exactly the intent of the new laws being passed. For the US Government to stop wasting money of people who are here illegally. They use emergency rooms as clinics, having babies on the taxpayers' dollar, drawing welfare for generation after generation of beer swilling low lifes who breed like rabbits in spring time.

Their time is coming too. You have to start somewhere, with the flood of illegals coming from Mexico, and the way they're destroying the US economy; it seems the most logical place to start. Besides, no one is targeting Mexicans anyway; the new laws apply to ALL persons here illegally, including all of those referred to in the previous post.

How true. This country was built upon immigrants from all over the world; all of them assimilating themselves into the American society, and learning English as their Primary language. I don't know about other ethnic groups, but, Mexicans, with few exceptions, have not done much, if anything, to assimilate into American society. They have made it a point to remain in their own little groups, setting themselves apart from the rest of society.
This country wasn't built on lowriders, blown out glass pack mufflers, khaki trousers, white T shirts, pendleton shirts, sandals, and graffiti either.
This country was built upon the hard work of all ethnic groups working together, and assimilating to become one nation, soveriegn on its own, and beholding to no one but the people who built it together. | |

i used to live in an area that had a lot of apple and peach orchards. high school kids and college kids were gagging for jobs at the orchards. boyfriend owns a pizza joint and he loses kids all the time to construction jobs.
i know a guy who paid for his college education with his lawn mowing business. | |

No, then we can start using prison and inmate labor instead and pay THEM each $5 a day instead of paying ILLEGALS $5 an hour to do the same work then at the end of the day we deduct $4 of that $5 a day from each inmate to help recoup the cost(s) of incarcerating them at taxpayer expense. You might say that then we'd have to hire guards to watch the prison and jail inmates, but in reality no we wouldn't as we already have the guards working and they are being paid the same amount regardless of whether they are babysitting the inmates inside or outside of the prison. | |

Hmm so either we have more power and weapons to overcome, or we sneak across the border in droves and procreate ourselves into the majority illegally and take over...
Here's the problem with that, they only take, oh, they may produce and they may even be productive, however, the end goal is to get enough money to send back to Mexico and still have enough to live on here and do the bare minimum for the country that is hosting them.

i really don't know where you people are getting the idea that americans won't do the jobs illegals do. i'd love to see some sources on that.
I don't get this either and evidently they have no experience in the matter.
When I was a young man (teenager) we looked forward to spring and summer because we could make some good money working in the fields. (Yea, it's a bit Taboo to talk about these day with all the Tobacco haters now-a- days. So, if you will forgive me for a momnet and please try to remeber it was a different time back then... )We could earn $10 an hour setting/topping/tending and as much as $14 when it came time to cut and hang. It was extremely good money for the times the equivalent to earning $20 or $34 dolars an hour today that's a pretty good pay check for a teenager or even an adult starting out in life. Yes, it was seasonal work and very hard hot work at that but we didn't see it as something no American would do...
Then a time came when the local politicians and business men sold the idea to the local farmers that they could get their crops in cheaper by using migrant workers from Mexico. I of course saw the fallacy of this idea and advised my farmer friends this wasn't a good idea (I was no lorger doing the field work at this point) some listened and aome did not. The one's who didn't got a labor force that would do the same work for $4 on everything with the incentive to increase that pay as infaltion adjusted. All seemed perfect to the farmers who had went along with the idea and soon the problems popped up that I knew was coming. They was getting a cheap labor force but now the farmer had to buy several mobile homes (furnished by the way) in which to house the workers, they had to provide all the elcetricity, water, etc, at no cost to the workers and all of this was signed to a deal of a 10 year contract That cheap labor force now was costing twice, sometime three times as much as the local work force they had given up all on a sales pitch of cheap labor... Just because the farmer's worker in the field is getting paid very little doesn't mean that farmer himself isn't paying $50 or $60 dollars in total to have that worker in the field...

Not real sure I want an unhappy, disgruntled convict to be the first to handle my food. We would probably find unwanted items in there once in awhile.
I would like to stop illegal immigration just like everyone else, but it is not as easy as some of you make it out to be. If it were, it wouldn't be a problem.
You are living in a fantasy world if you think our kids would take up the slack. It is a nice thought though.

Posted: 3/12/2008 3:10:50 AM | I grew up in California, and it seemed as if Illegals had always been there. They were known as Migrant Farm Workers back then. For every one of those workers you see in the fields every day, there are another ten, that are sitting idle somewhere, likely drawing welfare, swilling beer, with a pregnant woman at home, along with one or two other kids that were had on the taxpayer's dime. It used to be a running joke, when I was a kid, that Mexicans only knew how to do three things, draw welfare, drink beer, and breed. Heck, they used to "borrow" one another's kids, to take to the welfare office, so they'd get more money from welfare.
There are a great many jobs that Illegal Immigrants do today, that used to be done by Americans; including picking fruits and vegetables. However, Americans will not do the jobs for the same wages that Illegals will.
One of the reasons Illegals are willing to work so cheap, is that they claim enough dependents, that they get ALL of their paychecks, unlike Americans, who have taxes taken out. After three to five years, the Illegals go back to where they came from, never having paid taxes here in the US.
Sounds nice on an individual basis but try displacing families and looking at yourself in the mirror the next day, or deporting the illegal workers that support entire communities and watch their economies crumble.
Trauma centers are almost non existent anymore, because so many "patients" have come through them that don't pay a dime, and hospitals could no longer afford to keep them open.
The US housing market is in a major slump, and the rest of the economy is slowly following. Illegals have depressed wages in jobs that used to be considered middle class, family supporting jobs, meat cutting, construction, landscaping, and heavy equipment operation.
Illegals sneak across the border, have "Anchor Babies" on the US taxpayer dollar, and now I'm expected to support the entire family, including all of the other children this prolific breeding pair may decide to have, in order to collect more welfare? Please forgive me, but, I don't mind one bit, sending Illegals back to where they came from.
If things are so bad in their home countries, maybe they should try fixing things where they came from, instead of coming to the US, and trying to drag this great nation down to the same depths of financial ruin that they have their home country. | |

There are solutions to this problem though we will never totally eliminate illegal immigration, we can limit it. I work as an assistant golf course superintendent, last year we employed some Guatemalans through the H2B program. They are given work visas, brought in by another company, when the season is over the go back home. Hopefully, they return this year, but right now the visas are being held up. No, if they aren't able to get their visas, what will they do? I am sure some will try to come to the states illegally. So write your congressman. | |

If you could make 11 times your currency in another country, have free health care, pay no tax, and live with your friends and relatives so that you have very low bills, who wouldn't want to work many hours? Imagine if you could get a job blowing leaves across the border and making 120 -160 dollars an hour, most of which you can save...
I know many that are young, 25-30, that own or have a few houses in Mexico,land, another business, huge savings, etc. | |

Is anyone out there aware that our President along with the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico have already negotiated the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP)? Some members of our Congress are up in arms about it because they were never informed. SPP is a step beyond NAFTA on the road to the North American Union (NAU). A common currency is part of the agenda. Oh please. While it's always nice to see somebody who is proud to become an American, throughout history people come here because it's better. Whether it be better opportunities, better jobs, no religious persecution, there's always a reason for people to come here. | |
