Posted: 3/14/2008 12:35:18 PM | Ugh...I find it so annoying when people use the internet for their historical facts.
Look, the Europeans who came over to the New World (new for them anyway) didn't start out with genocide in mind. Slavery, greed, and all the rest, yes. Disease is what did the vast majority of the killing though. It's a verifiable fact. Unfortunately, nobody is sure just how many people were actually here when Columbus hit the beach (which, incidentally, wasn't the mainland anyway but I digress...)
Once the disease had wiped out enough people (and remember, this wasn't by design until long after the real damage was done) it just seemed like "Hey...nobody is here so , what the hell, let's set up a colony or two ?" Initially the idea was trade and nothing more.
Now, on to this idea that "the US stole land from Mexico". No they didn't.
These are artificial boundaries to begin with. Simple political delineations that weren't particularly relevent to the people who had lived on the land for eons. The native peoples weren't living in either Mexico or the USA for as much as they were concerned. The Mexicans for that matter aren't "native" to Mexico either. They're a hybrid people for the most part with a very strong element of European blood. Natives don't grow facial hair so that's your first hint.
Anyway, as I said, this wasn't a war between Mexico and the US fought by Natives protecting their land. This was the European conquerors fighting over the spoils basically. The US 'stole' Mexico the same way "Mexicans" stole Mexico.
Now, as for the immigration patterns : There is plenty of evidence to suggest that not only did the people Columbus met not constitue one 'race' but that they were also not derived from the same stock coming from the same routes in the first place. In other words, we know that it wasn't a one time migration from Asia across the Bering Strait and for that matter, it looks like people came through from both the East (Europe) in North America and from the West (Polynesia) in South America.
Oh, and the Spanish aren't 'brown'. Just watch any Spanish television show on YouTube if you want to see for yourself. And they weren't 'brown' at the time of Columbus either. | |

America has every right to defend their country despite our gruesome past of our newly growing country. But I ask everyone what would you do if you had to live a lifetime of poverty (if you made it that long) watching your family suffer and starve and all you had was one chance to escape it? would you take that chance or accept where you were?
What if instead of becoming an illegal immigrant, I stayed home and became a criminal? Would that be any different?
To the point of your question, I do not fault their for coming over, just as I would not fault a man who steals for his family. But empathizing with their motives and giving in to their actions are two separate things. For every person coming here from Latin America for a better life, there are a hundred people in Asia even poorer who do not have that opportunity. If helping humanity were the issue, I'd rather grant citizenship to truely impovershed Indians who speak english. | |

What is tougher for people to realize is that there is not just a suppression of wages of Americans but also a displacement of jobs. Too many think that the jobs performed by illeglas is not what anyone would do, and that is economically preposterous as a higher wages paid even for agricultural workers would bring more citizens into the occupation. I';ve been trying to get our government to discloe to me the actual numbers of illegals who are agricultural workers and so far they've been playing with me, but I did garnish a very good estimate and that is there are only about 2 million total workers, 25% of whom are Americans, 25% are documented aliens, and 50% undocumented aliens. We have plenty of school kids from ages 16 to 24 who can make up for the 1 million aliens doing this. The reason for summer breaks in school was for agricultural work and I see no reason why it cannot be used for that again. Paying an even higher salary would NOT hurt us as the money saved in what is another unmentioned fact is: THERE IS A HIGHER COST OF LIVING, as it relates to home prices and rentals by the impact of the large influx of people, and if they are gone, the price to have a roof over one's head would be lessened to a greater extent than the increase in price of produce.
The stat on crime is useful, though also theoretically false, as once an alien steps onto soil of this country, they instantly performed an illegal act, and thus the crime rate is actually much higher as they ALL committed a crime from just being here. It's sad that our country allows this crime. | |

Posted: 3/15/2008 7:04:06 AM | there was a near-sighted impetus to having illegals come into our country and that was to prop up home prices (serves the richer) and provide for lower wages (helps richer again). Our government is too obtuse to realize the impact it had on those who are not rich as it's just assumed there's plenty of opportunity in this country despite the actual 15% unemployment rate (only 63% of working age adults actually work) as well as the longterm impact on everyone, including the rich.
George Bush knew that in year 2001, if we stopped immigration, the recession could have gotten worse by a large slide in home prices. What was done instead was to keep allowing immigrants in here and lower the interest rates too much to perform another stupid near-sighted act to overstimulate the economy and that's why we are at the brink of a depression.
I've been warning others about this for several years and finally it looks like it's going to happen. The recent bailout of Bear-Stearns is one radical act of more I see coming.
False wealth was built up from bad government policies and now it's being undone. The ilelgal aliens coming in here was part of the game to create false wealth. | |

This is very true of nearly every job filled by an Illegal Worker. They are not jobs that Americans won't do; they are jobs that Americans won't do at the same wage that an Illegal Worker will.

It really bothers me when our news media, pro-illegals supporters and government try to minimized the terminology of a law breaker, by using terms that denote less seriousness of the situation.
If you break a law.........your a LAW BREAKER. If you come here without proper papers, your AN ILLEGAL ALIEN, LAW BREAKER.
Our Government just needs to enforce the laws on the books and bring them up to date with the times. | |

Settled Americans who are buying homes, paying to educate their children, paying for health insurance, auto insurance, real estate taxes, home owners insurance and putting away some savings for retirement can not live or exist on the wage some greedy employers wish to pay for employees. So its not that Americans wont do the work, it's that they can not live and exist on the wages offered.
Illegals come here, live several to a rented property, send their money back to Mexico to purchase property and homes there and work the social systems here in the US or just walk away from debts they create and that is why they can exist on a lower wage.
If this is not corrected soon, Americans working class will be comparable to the illegal aliens who come here from Mexico. We will not be able to afford to live, raise a family and educate our children, let alone plan for retirement. We will become a third world, working class population, with little to no future.
Is this the American Dream we wish to leave to our children and grandchildren? | |

I'm sorry, but I fail to see your logic. If there are alot of illegal aliens in the United States, it doesn't mean the labor board would slowly disband. The obvious flaw in the belief that alot of immigrants will lower our wages is that the only reason they work for less is because government legislation makes them criminals and allows employers to exploit both the law and these peoples. If Illegal Immigrants were allowed to earn at least minimum wage, then there would be no need to work under the table- the issue of competition against illegal immigrants would be no more different than everyday average competition against fellow Americans for your job.

I just read a thread about having children . The one poster said that white people are disappearing as a race and being replaced by non-whites all over the world . He said that we should be having more babies if we want to survive as a people .
The one all too typical woman poster said that he was a "racist" and that the world is over populated.
I said OMG is it now racist to not welcome you own genocide?

The term racist did not even exist less than a century ago . It is an orwellian term to say the least. As in "bad think" it is not a well defined term and can be thrown at anyone... as example in my above post.
People are sheep and they cower from the term racist . The power of that word is staggering . It is no wonder after non-stop indoctrination for a life time . There is hardly a movie , book , or tv show that is not "anti-racist"
It is very difficult to throw off this kind of mind control .

My questions back to you. 1. What has happened to the labor unions in the last say 20 years? Meat packing plants that DID have labor unions in the 70's and 80's were paying comparable to what the meat packing plants are now paying for employees, $8.00 to $9.00 an hour. But we can all agree that the cost of living has risen, so the income from the 70's and 80's has not kept up with wages today. That means the purchasing power from that working class has diminished and many are considered the working class poor, with lower media incomes. Thank the hiring and use of illegals in this industry for keeping the wages from raising on the same bases as cost of living.
Lets look at the manufacturing industry. What was once a secure well paying job that put folks in middle class America, with incomes to purchase homes, provide a better future for children, college educate children, be able to have family vacations and plan for retirements have for the most part been sent over seas to gain higher profits for large businesses.
Lets look at family started and owned businesses. Dillons grocery stores would be a good example. When this was a family owned business, 90% of employees were full time employees, with benefits and good wages. Now it has been purchased by Kroger, very few of the jobs are full time, maybe 10%, most part time with no benefits and the wages have dropped over the last 10 years. A person can not work there and support a family on one wage earner, without being considered working class poor.
Trained tradesmen, electricians, plumbers, construction workers, 20 years ago, were making comparable wages as to the present, but cost of living has risen so the purchasing power has diminished probably 50% in comparison to the raise in education, home owner ship and health care cost. Electricians in Georgia are being paid $15.00 an hour today and we are talking about electricians with the highest certifications and 30 plus years of experience. $15.00 an hour would most likely be comparable to what they were being paid in the 70's and 80's.
When companies can go abroad and hire well educated tech people for 50 to 75% of what they would have to pay an American educated employee, (keeping in mind that India's government pays for its brightest young peoples education and Americans must pay and acquire the debt of their education) don't have to have the concerns of providing retirement benefits and most are single young employees, so it cuts the cost of providing medical insurance and other benefits also.
When the labor pool is flooded, be it visa foreign workers or illegal workers, it boils down to supply and demand and if the labor pool is overabundant, wages will be suppressed.
What it cost to live, raise a family, buy a home, educate your children and plan for retirement is much higher here in the USA than it is in 3rd world countries, so these foreign workers can save their wages and go home to live a much higher life style than they world under normal circumstances, where as, with the suppressed wages caused in the USA, an American just becomes among the working class poor and poorer.
My son lives in New Hampshire. He and his wife both work at the Navy ship yard there and average around $15.00 an hour, but after taxes that is no where near what they bring home. The cost of home owner ship is very high and a small 40 year old, 650 sq ft on each level with basement home, no garage is hard to find for under $175,000.00. They looked for over 3 years and have mortgage payments close to $2,000.00 a month. It takes both of them working, to provide even a modest life style and a roof over their heads and they have no children. They finanically can not afford to have a family, nor for either of them to be out of work.
Why else would companies be out sourcing manufacturing jobs to 3rd world countries or importing foreign workers or hiring illegals, if not for keeping wages of Americans suppressed, a larger profit margin and greed? | |
