Posted: 5/4/2008 10:52:31 PM | All poor people want a better life, but that doesn't give the right for all poor people to illegally sneak into the U.S. How many poor people are there in the world? Perhaps 4 billion or so? Imagine what life would be like here in the U.S. with even half that number of 2 billion. Massive increase in pollution, massive devastation of forests and bodies of water and wildlife, massive overpopulation and overcrowding, etc. Thats not a country I'd want to live in, and many other Americans wouldn't want that either. Polls show most Americans want illegal immigration stopped and want to limit legal immigration to reasonable numbers and don't want it getting too high. The U.S. already takes in over a million legal immigrants per year(and many would argue we can't even take good care of our own poor citizens who are here now, much less the rest of the world's poor), far more than any other country and then of course we have a flood of illegal immigrants coming in that equal or surpass the number of legal immigrants coming in, about 80% of illegals coming in are hispanic, next highest is asians at around 9%, blacks at about 4% and whites about 6%.

Doesn't sound very fair or equitable, does it? There should be some balance and fairness in the immigration to this country, one race shouldn't have massive priority over others. For example, why not let in more asians immigrants to the country?
Since most of the illegal immigration is coming from Mexico, some say that if we got serious about stopping illegals from working here illegally and made sure they couldn't get welfare, many would go back to Mexico and they'd stay in Mexico and work to make things better there at home, to make life better for all Mexicans, instead of running away from their problems.
As has been said, Spanish is going to become more prevalent and after a number of decades, become the official language of the U.S. as hispanics become the majority here, IF things continue the way they are, and not enough is done to stop illegal immigration. However, if we get serious about enforcing our laws, most illegals will leave the country, and since about 80% of of the illegal population in this country is hispanic, millions of spanish speaking illegals will leave the country on their own and the english language will remain dominant for a much longer time. Remember the words of Teddy Roosevelt, which I linked to in an earlier post in this thread.
There are already efforts underway to make english the official language of the U.S.(but people should be encouraged to learn other languages and there's nothing wrong with speaking other languages either as long as all citizens of this country can read, write and speak english), which has the support of the majority of U.S. citizens who believe the english language is what helps unite us as Americans, the glue that helps hold this country together, and helps the melting pot work and keep it from developing cracks.
I think many American citizens resent the surge of the spanish language in the U.S. because much of it is being caused by illegal immigration, if it was being done by legal means, that might be different.
As was posted earlier here, no one really knows who got to the Americas first and what year it was. It was thought that the original immigrants to the Americas came from what is now Russia across the land bridge about 12,000 years ago, but evidence exists to show that there were peoples already here in the Americas many thousands of years before then. Where did they come from? What race were they? Were they killed off by what we called the indians who came across the land bridge and stole their land? We may never know all the answers, but what I do know is people have been killing other people and stealing their land for at least hundreds of thousands of years and it doesn't seem like it will ever stop, its not anything unique to the Americas so I don't see why Americans should be singled out as the most evil people who ever existed. Just because bad things happened in America's(or any other nation) past does not mean that nation should not enforce its laws, its citizens should hate themselves and feel depressed and dejected(though they should acknowledge the past and not repeat bad things that happened in the past), and let itself be overrun and taken over through illegal means.
Sure, some Americans were not too happy about legal immigrants from the past such as the Irish, but most Americans of today don't fear or hate legal immigrants, they favor the legal immigration into this country, but are opposed to the illegal immigration. And the illegal immigration of the past few decades has caused a lot of concern among the citizens of this country, and for good reasons. Most of the legal immigrants from the ellis island days, they didn't feel this was land that was stolen from them. A Zogby poll showed that over 50% of Mexicans felt that the American southwest belongs to them, and most of the illegal immigrants of recent times are coming from Mexico.

A pew hispanic center poll showed that close to 50% of Mexicans(there are over a 100 million in Mexico) wanted to come to the U.S. and over 20% would do it illegally.

It's not to say they wont take a freebie if the government offers it or that some arent bad people or criminals, but if the job market can absorb them it will only be a matter of time until the job market is saturated and there is no work to be found.
We face a huge problem 5-10 years from now with the baby boomers retiring all at once AND interest on the national debt coming due .......there just isnt enough workers to pitch in to cover those costs.
It makes more sense to somehow incorporate them into the economy, somehow, some way. | |

Posted: 5/5/2008 6:23:17 PM |  Right on. I work in an office where everybody speaks English! It's so nice. I could get really nasty in this and say how I really feel about it. But I'm not gonna. Because there are sites for this. But I will just say that it's such a relief to work in an environment where everyone speaks English. Because it seems that no matter where you go in California, there are Mexican illegals who cannot and do not want to speak English. They will work for nothing. And their brats are running loose everywhere. You can just see how badly their lives are out of control by the way that they allow all of their brats to run loose, in the stores, in the streets.....everywhere! No morals is the way now. Nobody needs to care about anything anymore, because if you do, then you are not being nice enough to them. I hate their sense of entitlement. And I hate that they expect us to accomodate them.
My mother moved to another State, in the midwest because she is fed up with them. And she isn't the least bit afraid to say that. Drive down a street in a small town in So, Cal. and you will see a Mexican female pregnant, pushing a baby carraige, with 1, 2 or 3 other kids in tow, on every street corner. I used to count them as I'd drive down the street. The Mexican men are pigs in a disguise.
I have noooo problem with Indians. But Indians are not the same thing as Mexicans.
I wish that California government would do the same as Oklahoma. I'm considering moving there.  | |

Study Shows 25 Percent Of L.A.'s Welfare Goes To Illegal Aliens
KHTS News (Calif.) : May 5 , 2008
Supervisor says county spends more than $1 billion a year on benefits to illegals. According to new data from the Department of Public Social Services, nearly twenty five percent of Los Angeles County Â’s welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal aliens, at a cost of $36 million a month -- for a projected annual cost of $432 million.
"The total cost for illegal immigrants to County taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the millions of dollars for education," said Antonovich. "With $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $432 million in welfare allocations, illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers."
In March, illegals collected over $19 million in welfare assistance and over $16 million in food stamp allocations.
I feel certain that these percentages would be comparatable in most other states that have large numbers of "illegals" | |
