| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 11/12/2007 8:44:43 AM | | An ex-girlfriend taught me what it was to actually be a part of a productive and beautiful relationship and to love, trust, and be myself, rather than acting the part. Even though it had to end and I learned what it was to feel pain over a lost love, I am glad for the things I learned about myself and the lessons in true love, thanks to her. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 11/12/2007 7:41:28 PM | My bestest friend ever...one in a million....
I needed help unloading landscaping rocks....each weighing over 300 lbs. I asked my best bud for help. Not only did he help me get the load to the ground, he helped me place them all too! (I mean, he let me help him) . He told me that when he came over to help, he had every intention of finishing the job!
He wouldn't let me pay him, make him lunch, take him for supper or anything...he wanted nothing in return but more of our friendship! I miss him.
And....he looked great all tanned and sweaty! Aren't friends great!

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 11/25/2007 3:44:55 PM | Ex of mine suprised me by taking me to see Lion King on stage, which I LOVED. Then took me out to dinner. At the time she was a mother of one (not my kid, LOL), and in school and I knew she was having a hard time finacally(sp?). She said she was saving up for it for awhile because she really wanted to do something special for me.
Even though I would always say it didn't matter that she didn't have a lot of money to spend on us when we went out, now I can understand that sometimes, you just want to do something for someone all on your own because you really love them.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 11/27/2007 7:40:21 AM | My pet ferret had reached the end of his life as he was afflicted with a horrible disease and was suffering terribly ... I had loved this baby for more than nine years and we were deeply bonded. Despite doing everything in my power to bring him through, it came too the point of knowing that I was not going to have him around much longer. As the vet told me that there was no quality of life left for him and the possibility of his recovery was nil and nothing could be done medically to improve his condition, I decided to let the vet put him down and end his suffering ...
I broke down in deep gutteral sobbing ... holding my deceased pet close to my heart ... I was crying so hard that I could barely see too walk out of the vet's office ... and as I made my way to my vehicle, totally oblivious too anything around me and consumed in my grief, a complete stranger who was driving by at that moment stopped their car, got out of the vehicle and wrapped their arms around me and embraced me tightly, allowing me to collapse against them and just vent my sadness ...
I don't know how long I stood in this person's arms but their willingness to show me that degree of compassion at the time of my loss will forever remain in my heartspace.

I was given up for adoption as a baby, and had felt very sad and bitter about not being wanted. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was visiting my birth family (I found them about 15 years ago), and was crying quietly in private. My wonderful cousin rushed in and embraced me, crying too, saying "I wish you would have grown up with us!". All those negative feelings rushed away, and they haven't returned. She gave me the gift of belonging. Still tears me up to think about it.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 11/28/2007 11:25:48 AM | When I was in highschool, I lived with my grandparents in a small New Mexico mountain town with a population of only 500 people. There was a long dark 2-lane winding mountain road I had to travel daily because after school I went to work as a dishwasher at a steakhouse and would get off of work around midnight. My grandparents always went to bed around 9pm and so would be asleep by the time I got home but I knew my grandma was a light sleeper and would wake up when I got home & also, lay awake and worry if I didn't get home on time. Well, one night, I saw a cat crossing the road but didn't have time to swerve enough to miss it. I knew I had hit it but wasn't sure how bad. I thought/hoped that maybe I just hurt it a little but maybe it ran off and would recover. I was only 17 and had never done anything like that and didn't know what to do!! I didn't have a flashlight. I didn't have a cell phone and I didn't have any money on me to be able to use a pay phone. I wouldn't have known who to call anyway. There were no vets open and I didn't have money for a vet anyway, beings that I only made $60 a week that I used for my own personal expenses as to not create a burden on my grandparents who were kind enough to give me a roof over my head and feed me in the 1st place!! So, I decided I would go home and just tell my Grandma what happened and that I was going back to get the cat and bring it home to take care of it if I hurt it so that she wouldn't lay awake and worry about me being late. After I got home, I woke her up and told her what happened. She talked me into thinking that the cat was probably fine and not to go back and that we could go check tomorrow to see if it was there but that she thought it would be fine. The next day, we went back and it wasn't there, so I forgot about it and was really relieved & just figured it lived. About 15 years later, after my Grandpa had died, my Dad is the one who told me that I did kill that cat and my Grandpa had gone back to find it and take it off the road so I wouldn't see it the next day. I never got to thank him. That is the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/15/2008 10:24:09 PM | So many to pick from...anytime someone takes time out of their day to do anything for me is a blessing. But one of the many that sticks out in my mind is when I went to a ex's house crying over stupid stuff, not your regular crying but the crying with the runny nose and the high pitched voice and the words that make no sense what so ever. Well after crying and talking for hours he held me and watched a movie with me that he wouldn't be caught dead watching otherwise. And sat there with me all night. The beautiful part was that I was extrmely vulnerable and he didn't try anything. He later told me don't ever put him in that position again...LOL But it was a beautiful thing and I truly appreciate that. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/16/2008 11:28:02 AM | | 15yrs ago someone shoved their kids into one room and gave me a boxroom, she took time to 'de-child' the room and make it welcoming in half a day, she also 'gave' me one of two living rooms so i had privacy quiet and so i would not feel in the way while my abused head mended itself...which led to me being able to move forward and make choices for myself... I will never forget that unselfish kindness..ever | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/17/2008 8:18:53 AM | Don't know about nicest, but here goes: This was ~10yrs ago.
One day my door bell rings and it was a lady ~35 and her car was broken down in front of my house. She asked to use the phone. I said sure, and being the paranoid house full of guns person that I am, I followed that with I'll be right back and shut the door. I quickly returned with the phone in hand. It was a nice hot humid FL day. As I stood at the door, making sure that she didn't run off with my phone I noticed two kids in the car. They were ~6 & 8. I was only 8" taller than her and outweighed her by 75lbs, but once I saw the kids I figured she wasn't gonna mug me.
I invited her and her kids inside out of the heat to wait for the tow truck, or who ever was coming to help her. After a couple of offers she agreed. The kid came in sat on the couch, I turned on a cartoon and they were as quiet as could be. I gave them softdrinks, and they waited quietly for, what I later learned was her brother the mechanic. Before she left she got my name and address.
About a week later in the mail I received $5 worth of McDonald's coupons. We both knew that we would never see each other again, but the fact that she took the time to say Thank You was a great thing. What I did was spur of the moment, and very comvient for me. Her reply actually took effort on her part.
I have had nicer things done for me, but that one let me know that there are still decent gracious people in the world.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/20/2008 6:15:03 PM | After my triplet daughters were born my Mother who had never been away from WV for more than a week long vactation came 9 hrs from home and stayed with me for 3.5 months to help me take care of them. Even though my a$$ of a huband at the time was so rude to her that she went to her room many nights crying. But she told me that it didn't matter how he treated her, she was there because I needed her and that she was going to stay until I could handle the girls on my own.
As I have matured I have learned that all Mothers are not alike. Mine adopted me at birth. And I thank God everyday that he showed the stork her doorstep to put me on.

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/20/2008 9:23:57 PM | Someone sent me a dozen long stemmed roses on Valentines Day one time. I have no idea who it was and he never showed himself, although on the card he said really wanted to see me again. It really made my day...it put a huge smile on my face. Women are sucker for flowers, when it's for the right reasons | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/20/2008 9:29:05 PM | I'm really into the "little things"
Quite a few years ago, I was seeing this one girl...we used to talk on the phone a lot...if my cordless was not charged, I would have to use the wall phone and would sit at the kitchen table because the cord wasn't long...and the kitchen chairs were not padded, so after awhile, my butt would get sore...
So one day, she comes over to have dinner and watch a movie...She brought me an extra long phone cord, so I can could sit on the couch and talk on the phone...
I thought that was the coolest thing ever...

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/21/2008 6:30:43 PM | | I got my heart broken many many moons ago on a New Years Eve and needless to say I was very drunk and upset. A girl I know, not even a close friend stayed with me and tried to cheer me up all night. I must have ruined her evening. I wish I could have given her a more sincere thank you. She really came through for me. | |

| What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you? Posted: 1/22/2008 6:23:02 PM | Nicest thing, I could write about many. My wife was in Boston undergoing treatment for cancer........it was Dec. 24th, I had just arrived at work when my wife called and said I should come and get her (about 7 hr round trip) , they were going to let her come home and spend the holidays with our 3 kids. I called my friend Dave and told him I was off to Boston and asked if he or his wife could watch the kids. Told him I was stopping off at home first to talk to the kids and then leaving. When I got home he was there and said he was coming with, he asked why my Christmas tree wasn't up yet. Told him with work, watching the kids, Christmas shopping and doing all the house work, talking with my wife on the phone to keep her spirits up, I hadn't had time, and had planned on doing it that night. He didn't say anything just went outside while I talked with the kids for a second. Well, we got to Boston, picked up my wife and headed right back. When I got home my wife and I went into the house......we found our house was spotlessly clean (my wife had no immune system and had to have clean environment) Chritmas tree up, decorated and all the present I had bought all wrapped and under the tree. I found out later that Dave had called his wife and told her about the tree and she rounded up some of our friends and they had spent the day doing the all that.
When my wife passed away, all my 6 brothers from across the country showed up (we're a very very close knit group of guys).....while talking with them I saw Dave coming up the driveway through the window, my brothers had never met Dave before....I point at him and told them ...when I see Dave I see a brother, all they said was ok.......Dave to this day doesn't understand why my brothers have had him and his family to stay at their houses whenever he is in their areas of the country.
