What was the nicest thing anyone ever did for you?

I was 18. Lost my keys in the sand at Jones Beach, N.Y. The sun was setting, and now I'm in a panic. A car next to me saw me going back and forth to the beach and car. It was a couple , old enough to be my parents. They asked what happened. I said I think I lost my keys in the sand... anyway, They drove me to my house to get the spare keys, a good half an hour away and back. I wanted to give them money. They said I reminded them of their daughter and just said "do something nice for someone someday". I'll never forget them or that day.

When someone brightened my day just by noticing something, on which I had been working very hard, and said, "Good job."

My boss will do that too, and it is great to be recognized at work, but it was simply a moment when I really needed a compliment. He was just a random angel
"practicing random acts of kindness." <--- among my favorite ideas/attitudes

I guess I have a few "nicesest-s!"
I am a lucky girl.

Nicest thing was back in 1995 when my banker kicked me out. I turned around and 3 years later walked in with 6 digits in the account thanking him for setting me straight, smacking me in the head to run my business more responsibly. I was 25 when he booted me.

My friend John had prostate cancer & we spent a lot of time hanging out together, and talking about how it was affecting his life after the procedure. We really bonded and he became my confidant and best guy friend. Somewhere during one of our conversations I mentioned the "before I die" wish list........ He made one of my wishes come true.

He called me @ work one day and asked if I wanted to go to an Eagles concert. I thought he was joking - 15 minutes later we were on the road and within an hour I was in the 5th row on the floor in the center of the most amazing concert I've ever been to.
2 hours of absolute bliss.

He has stepped up to the plate and helped me in other ways too - when I had no one else to turn to - he is one of my greatest friends who I will always love and I will always treasure. He is seeing a really great lady now and I am so happy & excited for him...
Thank you John

My step-dad asked me to promise never to pass anyone I could help. "Never pass old people on the side of the road. Stop and change tires. Carry a gas can, and use it to help people who've run out."

That was an amazing gift to me. It opened up a completely differen't world of compassion and caring. It strengthened my faith in humanity and gave me an amazing sense of self esteem. I don't have a bunch of money in the bank, but I'm rich beyond my wildest dreams.

I've seen the gratitude in people's eyes and heard some of the kindest words known to man. I've seen people who've decided to make this their own lifestyle, which is an amazing gift in itself.

I've learned some pretty cool things about myself, and I've gained an amazing amount of respect for the man who threw down the gauntlet to me. I've also watched my own son take on that same challenge, and I am prouder than any man has a reasonable hope to be.

Thanks, Dad. May God rest your soul.

The Nicest Act of Kindness from Someone towards ME
IS
When a Christian Senior Lady introduced me to Church 'God '& encouraged me to Fellowship with Christians again 'and just being there as a Friend to a total stranger ''She Loved me unconditionally '' even gave me 50.00 when I was
having hard times ''' This Lady was awesome she taught me so much ''She has passed from this Life now . She even gave me a Bible she had put index Tabs on all the books "'So that I can find them easily ... I will always cherish that Gift ...

When I was a teen ager I ran away from Home ended up in New Mexico ''and a Man with an RV picked me up and brought me all the way back to Missouri and let me out close to home ....He was a very nice 'respectable and Good 'kind Spirited Man '' did not try any thing wierd "'I am very greatful for his
fatherly and caring spirit for young adults /children .............. Now that I am all grown up "'I see the outcome could have been dark ..
Somebody up there is watching over me .

My youngest son was 10 and had been hit by a car. I didn't know whether he was alive or dead----thankfully....he had broken his femur. Not that it was any better but at least he is still here. My mom was here to help take care of my oldest son but couldn't be with me at the hospital when they brought my youngest back from surgery. I had called my best friend the day before and told him what happened. While I was sitting waiting in my son's room --- he showed up. He had come right from work after driving truck all day to be here for me. I cried!! It made me love him that much more. And he's done numerous other things for me since then..helped me move 3 times---changed headlight bulbs on my car--done my sparkplugs for me. Sad part is his wife never trusted out friendship ... now I have lost him because I didn't want to destroy their relationship. We still email occasionally but that's it. I can only hope that his wife as a clue on how lucky she is.

When my youngest was 2 1/2, she was assaulted by a man. I went completely insane with anger that this had happened. I was working full-time and going to college full-time as a single parent. My other child was 7. I was trying my best to hold it together, even started counseling because I had to hold it together for my 2 1/2 yr old and what it did to her and follow what her counselor was telling me how to handle her. She was having terrible fits of rage, went back on the bottle, back to diapers and afraid of a lot of things. I promised myself I wouldn't let her down and I would help her through this, but honestly, I wasn't in good shape over it. I kept thinking of getting a gun to the man. He didn't go to jail until he stalked her daycare at church.

A co-worker of mine (female) told me one day she really needed a place to stay. I told her she could live with me. She lived with me, helped me in every single way possible. With my children, my stress, my anger, chores, lent me her car if mine broke down, etc.. She later told me she didn't really need a place to stay, but she knew if she didn't help me, I was going to either go insane or go to jail. She stayed with us for a year and then went off to marry her boyfriend and live with him. She even had some dates lined up for me during that time so I didn't lose hope in men.

To this day, I don't know what I would have done without her help that year.

Love the positive threads on here

Nicest thing someone did for me was buy me a laptop. Not because I'm a materialistic or greedy person, but because it was the single-most important tool for success that I needed but couldn't possibly afford.

I was re-building my life post-divorce (like many of us), back in the work force doing my old job that pays the bills but isn't my passion. And I'd realized I had finally found the courage to push me past my fear of rejection letters and to start a professional writing career. But I couldn't afford the luxury of a laptop.

So a month before my birthday (he couldn't wait) he gave it to me, and said "now you don't have any more excuses. Write your book. Go fot it. You're an incredible writer. Now DO it."

It was the nicest thing anyone ever did for me because it meant he believed in me, in my talent and in my drive, and he wanted me to have the tool I needed to make it all happen. THAT was just as precious as the laptop. Love you Mark!

My Grandparents became my ultimate heros by giving me themselves as parents when my father abandoned me and my mother was too ill to care for me. They taught me how to love and trust and most of all, to learn to forgive.
I would not be the person I am today or where I am today with out their gift of love and support throughout my life.
Just knowing that they believe in me and respect me is the nicest and most precious thing they could of ever done.
Now I am a better mother to my children because of them.

During a rough patch of stress I called one of my best friends. She started giving advice that just made me mad. So I hung up on her.

It was pretty late at night and she goes to bed early. But 15 minutes later there was a knock on my door. It was her. And she came and hugged me and asked me what was going on. And she listened. And she gave solid advice and encouragement. And she hugged me. And she said however she could help she would.

She was a true friend, even though I was rude and hung up on her, she understood that rough spots happen and that real friends give because they care. It may seem small, but it was so important and so needed that it was one of the kindest, nicest, most loving things someone has done during a very rough patch.

(I hope more people keep posting on this thread. It's a great uplifter.)

The nicest thing my kids did for me was when they were 5+7,they made me breakfast on bed for mothers day.

I was presented on a Barbie plate no less,a whole loaf of bread toasted and a bowl of mint choc chip ice cream....i had 2 pairs of eyes watching me from the bottom of my bed...i was feeling queasy by the time i had 3 pieces of toast but my kids urged me on 'mummy,you must eat ALL of your breakfast like a good girl,just like you tell us'.....

I was ill for 2 days after but my goodness was i happy my babies had done that for me.

The cards they made were stunningly gorgeous too

Things have changed slightly now they are teenies lol

The nicest thing that was done for me was my mother giving $6,000.00 to each one of us...my sisters and brother. We are seven in the family. She said that we could all use that now instead of when she is gone. Sure made our day. I bought her a diamond ring as a token of thanks in return.

My mother worked nightshift during my schoolyears without complaint to keep me and my sister under a roof.

A stranger in Paris gave me a lift to a hotel where I was meeting a friend when I was lost and in a bad part of town.

Thank you for posting this It's what I remind myself of when the challenges of single parenting get really rough: one day she'll realize that while it was hard not having mom home more, it's what helped her gain the independence needed to grow.

My dad was a very strict and intimidating man. I was sixteen when I totaled his car. I was shaking in my boots when I walked in with the cops who gave me a ride home. My mother was standing next to my dad who was stirring the spaghetti sauce on the stove (he always cooked on Sundays). He didn't even turn around, and before anyone said anything he said "Are you ok?" "I wrecked the car" "that's not what I asked you" "uh... ya." "Did you learn something today?" "uh... ya." "Good. Go wash up, we're eating in a few minutes." My mother was looking at him the whole time with a look I'd never seen on her before. I'd always assumed he held back from blasting me because she was there. I learnt years later that he was balling his eyes out while he was talking.

Why is this the best thing someone ever did for me? Because it gave me the strength to stay calm as oppose to blast my oldest boys who wrecked my car (twice), put the lawn tractor in the pond, and cut down the asparagus patch with the push mower (ok, someone was blasted for that one)

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me was this creepy looking guy that worked at the little convenience store by my house. I went there every Sunday to get quarters for the laundry mat next door and this creepy guy behind the sandwhich counter would stare at me. He looked creepy to me because he had a long bony face and deep set eyes and he was white -- a serial killer I supsected. One evening I went by the store and the cashier lady told me that the deli serial killer- looking dude had a major crush on me but that he was shy. Imagine how SHOCKED I was. I heard a lot of good things about him. He had given up his job to move here to help his sister with her kids. Impressed and intrigued, I left my number with the cashier and my name. The next evening I got a phone call from him. He was soft spoken (still a bit eerie to me) but his candor was endearing and we had a good conversation. He became my telephone friend-- although he worked a short walk from my house, I was too shy to meet him in person. This all happened around Christmas time some years ago.

One day he calls me and says he's at work and has a surprise for me. I was surprised-- wondered what kind of surprise (this once suspected serial killer) would have for me-- a girl he hardly even knew. I agreed to come by the store to meet him. What he had gone and done was the sweetest thing I think any familiar stranger has ever done. He was standing there in his apron holding a box when I got there. I was too shy to open it in front of him and asked if I could just take it home. He let me off the hook-- but he wanted me to agree to being on the phone with him when I opened it up. I got back home, locked my doors LOL and called the store to ask for him as I opened the package. He had bought me a Fisher Price Log Cabin lego set. I heard his delight on the phone when he knew I got the box open. He told me I was a sweet girl who deserved all her dreams to come true-- one of which was to build my own big mansion sized log cabin one day that I did in fact share with him. I still have the logo set-- don't know what happened to him but I'll never forget the special thing he did for me.

My son was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and at the time I was driving 60 miles a day to get him back and forth to the doctor, which was life threatening in itself. My sisters Father and Mother in-law took my son and I in. For 6 mths these folks were God sends to me. They knew nothing about me except that my son was dieing. They opened their home to two strangers, and treated us as their own. My son passed, but these folks will always be one of my dearest blessings!
So to this day if someone is in need I try never to question it, instead just do all that I can to help them through their hardship!

I have been truly blessed with good friends in my life.
Here are some of the nice things my friends have done:
- Telling me to believe in my ability to succeed;
- Gave me a hug when I needed one;
- Gave me a coffee for no reason;
- Listened when I needed get something off my chest;
- Gave me a ride home from the eye Dr after having those nasty drops that make you blind for hours;
- Wrote me a letter or card when I was away and dreaming of home.
Best of all, it is that beautiful smile that people are sometimes willing to share.
The genuine smile that lights up a person’s eyes.
If you are reading this, I hope you receive one of those today. Cheers.
