| Ecuador wants military base in Miami Posted: 11/27/2007 4:21:11 PM | Seems to me it's just an interesting exercise in holding up a mirror to US foriegn policy, just a jesture to point out what others already see.
But I am confused why the US would want this base, I'm not sure of the last time SA was a threat. Plus you insist on fighting this 100 year old drug war you invented, even after 100 years you are loosing it, why pour good money after bad when it is public knowledge that your military is strung out and underfunded.

Ecuador is not own by it's President. The people of Ecuador will not allow a Marxist peanut brain to ruin it's relationship with the United States. That President like Hugo of Venezuela are walking on thin ice. If the people find themselves incapable of changing their leader, we will do it for them. Like Noriega of Panama and the Sandinista of Nicaragua. Hopefully his other stupid statements about Peru and Colombia will be ignored. Neighbors should not war with each other but crap happens.
Actually there was a coup attempt against Hugo Chavez a few years ago, which the USA openly supported. I have heard claims the CIA was involved, but no proof of that. However, after the coup many of those involved were granted asylum in the USA. Regardless, Chavez was reinstated due to MASSIVE civil unrest less than a week after he had been abducted.
In fact Chavez's political party now controls 100% of the seats in the Venezuelan parliament. The last elections were done fairly according to EU observers as well.

| Ecuador wants military base in Miami Posted: 7/9/2008 10:10:47 AM | It´s always nice to know foreign people is interested in problems that happen in my land.. so here I wanna say some things
In other words, we pay major money for the real estate to put a base in a foreign country. We build the base. Then we employ many people from the local population at that base. The bases usually bring a major economic boon to an area
The Military Base of Manta, also known Eloy Alfaro Military Base was inaugurated by the Ecuadorian air force on October 28, 1978. Access to that place the use of the runway and facilities of the Manta base to the United States Air Force, was transferred by agreement since 1999 until 2009, to combat drug trafficking in north-western of South America. It allows observing the movement of drug traffickers and sending the information to the authorities and military in the region..
So please “and can it be” do some research instead of talking everything without some solids facts.. it’s true they did some things and invested 182 millions of dollars here but but it was already built.
I say it is you who has not thought it through. Money is not the issue. Sovereignty and being in control of ones own home are the issues
The agreement has caused condemnation by various sectors of our society. Among the arguments against are: the loss of sovereignty by the foreign military presence in the territory, the general rejection of U.S. armed forces and the possible use of the base for operations of Plan Colombia.
Military and diplomatic sources are linking the Manta Air Base with the attack on the camp of the Colombian guerrillas of the FARC here in our lands.. It was a recently fact in which die the second principal guy called Reyes.
A committee of the Constituent Assembly in Ecuador approved the chapter on territorial sovereignty of the future Magna Carta. One of its articles stating that "Ecuador is a land of peace so in that order, its not permitted the establishment of foreign military bases or facilities to foreign military purposes.
As http://ipsnoticias.net/nota.asp?idnews=87834 says “If Ecuador wants to stop the transfer of Manta should withdraw from the agreement now, diplomatic sources told IPS. They could claim "many causes: a direct or indirect involvement (of U.S. forces from Manta) in the bombing, negligence for not having detected its technology with the FARC camp, followed the attack, later, and, if having done so, for not having informed the authorities in the partner country, which is Ecuador, "claimed the sources. Another reason could lie in which the Ecuadorian complaint is the direct support provided by the U.S. Southern Command, which depends Manta, the Armed Forces of Colombia.” On the other hand.. there are people that said that the agreement was illegal because the congress didn’t approve that and Ecuadorian people didn’t had a vote for that either…
By the way.. I´m Ecuadorian but it doesn´t mean that I agree with everything that my President does. I´m just giving u some facts why he could react in the way he did..
But you know what? So does the president of Ecuador. Let's go ahead and disassemble our base there. Everything we built should be knocked down so that we can return the base to them in the exact same shape we got it in. Let's tell the hundreds (thousands?) of Ecuadoreans we employ there that they'll have to go back to looking to the local economy for jobs.
1. Do u want to knock down everything here???.. Don’t you know that the things built could be something that they promise too when they signed the agreement???.. I don´t have the agreement in my hands but I really know that when we sign a contract we compromise to do something.. I could give you an example of that. When the CEO of the company in which I work signed for a contract for 10 years to use a land and open the business, they compromise to build the concessionary and give them discounts in some issues.. and that was part of one agreement. It didn’t say that if we move to other place we will destroy the walls and the garage or anything because that is not right. 2. Hey.. I´m not against to America.. But in answer as what a person said, Ecuadorians could loose their job.. that is ok for now.. but I heard that instead of being a military base It could be a commercial base in which Asian people could bring us more employment sources.. (hey.. I don’t know what will happen on the future but I’m saying what I’ve heard)
I guess Ecuador is just of America like every other country in this world.
I really don’t want to fight in this issue. We are just part of America continent but we don’t belong to United States. We have bilateral agreements with that country. Economical, commercial, diplomatic agreements and so on..
My president was giving just a point of view with that Base on Miami´s idea. I didn´t vote for him and I don´t agree in a lot of things that he is doing but I also don´t agree with some positions that some Americans take.. We should try to fix our relationships (economical, political, commercial issues and so on). I don´t know what my president is thinking about that but I could speak for myself and say that we (ecuadorians) have the same right to be there like you (Americans) have for being here. I´m not saying that in a tone of fight or something but it should be part of one agreement of cooperation in both sides. The issue here is that everything should be bilateral and not unilateral. Agreements have two or more parts not just one so it´s better that people remember that.
Ecuadorians are more than 12million of people not just one person. So please don´t talk so bad about a country that you don´t know… I don´t speak nothing against USA, right? I know the cons and pros for that country. I have gone there and I have friends there and so on… So please don´t judge something that u don´t know well…
I know.. I will get trouble for saying all the things that I want but anyways it’s my right not for being citizen of Ecuador but for being a part of this world
