| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 8:55:31 AM | Whitey's comments were interesting. My brother was born out in Oz and a stray cat kind of adopted him. My parents were worried sick as this cat would head for the cot and sleep in it..this was years back and in Oz and windows are doors were always open.
They tried their best to get rid of this cat..without harming it but she was having none of it and would stick by my brother's side.
They had a massive garden and when my brother was a crawler he went up the garden, mum was busy but kept an eye on him. The cat followed my brother. My mum spotted a rattle snake making it's way toward my brother..she ran in panic but the cat spotted the snake, dived on it and ripped it's head off...so yep..scary cat..but this little cat saved my brother's life. They kept her after that and she was always at my brother's side.
I have pets but they don't sleep on my bed..they'd bite me bum too much! Biting bums is their new game!

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 9:15:41 AM | I have always had my pets by my side, and grew up that way as did both of my daughters. My dog is a rather large rough Collie, and he sleeps beside my bed on his own blanket, and my Persian cat has been my pillow companion ever since I booted my ex out.
As long as your pets are groomed, and bathed regularly and mine both are, I see no harm in it whatsoever. When you live alone, they can be a great source of companionship and comfort.

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 9:16:06 AM | I love my dog, but definately not the hairs she leaves behind. I have a dalmatian and they moult all year round. So her being on my bed is a no no, (colour scheme in my room is chocolate brown, so white hairs do not blend in I am afraid), Pebbles sighs and looks pleadingly for me to change the colour scheme to white.
Besides which, my dog is very communicative, she grunts and groans at all kinds and I am almost sure she tries to talk to me, so her having a bad dream and talking in her sleep on my bed would drive me nuts.
She sleeps in the kitchen, she is not really allowed up the stairs but there are times when she creeps up, just follows either me or my son around like a shadow, lol.
I need somewhere clean and pet hair free to put my clean clothes down on to, she is not allowed on the furniture either, but she in no way suffers, my son gets on the floor with her,
She does have her own bed too, which my son can safely vouch is very comfortable, after he gets up covered top to toe in dog hair.

the few times I have let Princess sleep on my bed, I have regretted it in the morning due to her hairs,
shhhhhhhh... you told me you wouldn't tell anyone
to me... if you have a pet...they are part of the family... it would be like putting one of your children outside to sleep... sorry... but no I couldn't do that...
I have one cat and he is allowed anywhere and normally sleeps cradled in my arms or on the bed somewhere....

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 9:56:37 AM | how many people would consider curling up in the dog bed ?
cant see the point in letting pets sleep on the bed, looked after sisters house once, cats went crazy trying to get in the bedroom at night, big bean bag by the door stopped them
as for getting woken up by a dog licking someone's face ?
the dog has probably woken up, given it's bum a good lick and proceeds to wipe doggy poo and salvia over your face, er no thanks :)

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 10:11:25 AM | My cat shares my home.He sleeps on my bed.My home.My rules. Its his home too. And anyway he is adorable. One of my friends has 2 collies and 3 cats. The dogs sleep on the landing. One of the cats sleeps downstairs by his choice. The other two share their bed and their daughters bed. And it all works very well. Different strokes for different folks. | |

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/4/2008 10:54:33 AM | Of course my cat sleeps on my bed, she's my baby! It's lovely waking up finding her snuggled up next to only to start purring manically when she notices I'm awake and can finally get some attention. Sometimes she can't wait till morning and headbutts and licks my hand until I either hide my hands or spend and hour stroking her. No prizes for guessing which option I take! But I wouldn't have it any other way.
As for a new partner not liking it? Tough, I'm not kicking her out after all this time, THAT would be cruel, you either learn to live with it or it won't work. She's my family and as such I will treat her with the importance she deserves.
Oh, and she doesn't drag sh1tty mud into the house because she doesn't do digging, doesn't like the mud under her nails. She daintily perches in her chosen spot, does her business, then abandons! Irritating but at least the mud on her paws is minimal.

I have a huge enormous long haired German Shepherd who wouldn't fit on the bed ...
And where did his dog sleep?
OT Pets should have their own place to sleep. True, that's not always practical, and some owners prefer their pets to share the bed.

Yes, I'd sooner share my bed with my pet than some I've seen

| Pets on beds Posted: 1/5/2008 8:31:29 AM | My cat sleeps on my daughter's bed - he is permanently attached to the pillow and wraps himself around her head.
My dog - wherever she feels like. Mostly she starts on my bed and then feeling to hot goes by the front door to work as the draft excluder.
Both cat and dog live here, it is their home as well as mine and my daughter's.
I would never consider seeing anyone who has a problem with that.

| Pets on beds Posted: 6/24/2008 5:34:24 PM | Dogs and cats sleeping on a bed drive me nuts. Its not that I don't like dogs or cats at all it's simply because I am so damn tall.
At my height there is no spare room at the end of the bed for them to sleep so they end up on my feet. Then when I roll over in the night the poor buggers end up getting kicked or thrown off the bed by accident.
If there was an 8ft bed readily available in bed shops then it wouldn't be a problem.

| Pets on beds Posted: 6/25/2008 4:38:52 AM | Funny how this thread has came back up after discussing the same subject with a fella I know yesterday.
Seems he offered to have his siters dog whilst they went on holiday, her husband nearly had a fit when he showed them the kennel the dog would be sleeping in, raised platform with a carpet on it, seems their dog has a single bed in the spare room..
Guy said dogs should be treated for what they are, dogs, not surrogate children or replacement partners ..

| Pets on beds Posted: 6/25/2008 4:44:12 AM | I have two dogs, and my border collie likes to come upstairs with me, make sure i'm settled down for the night, then goes under the bed and sleeps there. Shes like a mum making sure i'm ok before she rests for the night. | |

| Pets on beds Posted: 6/25/2008 4:53:32 AM | My ex had two labs and a rasping little wheezing thing that slept on the bed - very off putting in rare moments of nookie!
Handy if ya bottom burps though ya can kick a dog!
Nope no dogs in my bed - now **** is open to negotiation!

| Pets on beds Posted: 6/25/2008 10:27:59 AM | | I have leather furniture so if the cat lays on it it's not a big deal - but he is definitely not allowed on the bed. I have a cover over the conservatory furniture so I can take it off if anyone wants to sit out there - there is no way I would ever allow any animal to sleep in or on the beds - that's just gross! | |
|
| Pets on beds Posted: 6/25/2008 11:53:12 AM | I have an 8 month old kitten and she's a right lazy arse. She snoozes in her bed, or on the sofa, but sometimes she sleeps with me.
It really does depend on how tired I am or if Im up early for work and therefore need decent kip. So sometimes I shut her in the kitchen.
But sometimes she'll curl up next to me on top of my bed and I'll fall asleep stroking her. I dont find it gross, I find it very relaxing, comforting and therapeutic.
