Well, I haven't read through the whole thread, so maybe my reply is redundant, but I will give you my opinion anyway.
I quite like spending time in nature. Hunting in the fall is kinda fun. I have no problem cleaning partrigde (sp?) and rather like the taste of the little critters. A freezer full of deer or moose can sure make the grocery bill go down too.
So if a guy lists hunting as an interest, I think that is cool. I can either come along, or let him do the male bonding thing, or preferably a little of both. But if I see fire arms as an interest, sorry... outta here.

HAHA Hunting is always a fun thing to do so nope I have no problem with it.....I went with my Ex when we were together, he got himself a moose!! All we had to do was do the deed and the moose came a running!! LOL It was hilarious. So for those of you that hunt and never seem to catch anything, take your woman and have sex, I assure you they will come out of the wood work lol

If his name is Mr. Smith or Mr. Wesson and there's somebody trying to break into my house, I'd say it's not a turnoff.

I enjoy hunting alot, for three years I just sat in the stand taking pictures, but this last year I shot for the first time and was proud to have him showing in the back of the truck on the way home! I was able to feed my three kids for close to a year on one deer. It's not gamey tasting if you know how to cook it!
I think all hunters have to be safe gun handlers and no drinking while sitting in the stand!
Men that hunt are down to earth and have to be smart, there is alot of thinking and planning that goes into hunting.
And for the women ****ing about guys going hunting too much, why don't you just go along with him and spend time with him there??????????

Again, I have posted a question about women with guns, I have got mostly positive feedbacks on that.
I personally think that is TURN ON.

mess. 303...sassy....i'm disturbed you think it's such a joke that moose will be attracted to love making (due to the life energy i imagine) just so you can shoot it.

Are you serious? How about the that you smell like female moose in heat after sex. Just like any horny guy the moose comes to check it out. I think it is funny too actually even if I feel a bit bad for the moose who just wanted some nookie.

I respect true conservationists and also people who hunt to eat, as long as they don't treat the animals cruelly in any way. But what always gets me about people who say they are conservationists, etc., is they still want to go and hunt and kill. It's that desire and attraction to doing this that worries me, the bloodlust. I recognise it is there, deep down in humans, but still find it horrible. I had a relationship recently with someone who believed that if they ate meat, they should, in all integrity, be prepared to kill it. He also believed that it was kinder for the animal to have led a natural life up until the point of death. I agree and I respected this, but still felt uneasy that he should actually desire to go and kill an animal, when there was no immediate need.

^ I actually find it somewhat troubling that I would have a very difficult time killing anything. It shows how far removed we've come from basic survival... but what can you do.

I prefer animals that have lead a "natural" life. I hate, hate, hate the factory farming system. There are alternatives, of course... but those cost more. (But they're more healthy-- less hormones.)

If you're going to hunt - then hunt.
But please don't turn it into some justification about humanity vs. animal factories, population control, healthier eating, etc.
In most industrialized countries in this day and age, hunting is not necessary for survival - that is why we used to hunt, or to eliminate threats to our house and home (such as wolves, bear, etc.)

People hunt mainly for the sport - plain and simple ... so call it that, please.
Is hunting more humane then the atrocious conditions. life and death of the animals that enter the slaughter houses? Absolutely - yet I hardly believe this is the main reason hunters are out there - buying little to no meat at supermarkets and making hunting their main source of food.
Do hunters help curb populations of some animals? I've heard there is some evidence to this, but again it is not the main reason hunters are out there, doing the duty mother nature seemingly cannot.
Same with healthy eating - of course it's healthier to eat wild game (for the most part) - yet just as those defending hunting using the "if you're not vegetarian and against hunting then you're a hypocrite!" - unless you eat wild game constantly, and only wild game, then the argument is invalid.

If we all had to watch our animals be slaughtered before we enjoyed our burger, steak or roasted chicken dinner, or had to slaughter them ourselves and clean them, there'd be plenty more vegetarians. What we don't see and stay ignorant of is bliss, yea?
Yet throwing hunting into a positive light other than calling it a sport, excitement, etc. is just bullsh!t in the West.
Unless your survival depends upon hunting, unless you're truly worried about the inhumane ways animals are killed in slaughter houses, unless you've just bought Tony Little's new infomercial Elk-o-matic for healthier eating, then for the love of God please call hunting for what it is. All these euphemisms and apparent great deeds hunting does just ... doesn't .... cut it.

That depends. If you list guns as an interest that is a turnoff to me definitely. If you are a trophy hunter and post pictures with you posing with a dead animal that is also a turnoff. The fact that you own a gun is not a turnoff, nor is the fact that you hunt. To me its more about how you view these things.

"..... I would love to find a woman that enjoyed the outdoors, hunting , fishing and camping as I do. The more activities you can share the better off you are.

I haven't met any women hunters on POF yet but I have met quite a few who haven't hunted but have inquired about either going along hunting to see what it's like.....or in learning to shoot"

You know you can do an advanced search for women that have hunting, shooting, camping or outdoors listed as an interest? I've written and met several interesting women I found thru the interest search.

I would NEVER EVER date a man who hunted? And I don't want to be around guns either, so yeah both are pretty much a turn off for me.

YES YES YES

I would never date a man that owned a gun or saw hunting as "sport". I love animals, I share my home with a tonne of them an each one is just as valueble to me as any human being ever could be. Dispite what the original poster might say, there is no respect in taking a life. There is no reason for it anymore, you live in a civilized socirty and your every nutritional need can be met at the grocery store.

No.

the turnoff is "no teeth", "missing teeth", holding eating utensils clenched in a fist, and using phrases like "He don't", "She don't", "I ain't gonna"...WHILE holding a gun, and hunting.

So is tying your catch on the hood of your car and driving around all weekend with it on there to show it off.

where the public school system has been teaching for 20+ yrs. that gun ownership is inherently bad, ...

Gun ownrship is not bad, cruel, etc., it is LEGAL. This is the United States, and people have the right to own and, bla bla bla. You don't need to lecture your date on the subject, or to advertise what you own on your first dates. "Hello, my name is D1ck and I own 3 revolvers and 5 semi-s, plus adequate ammo for a week war" is not a good way to start off. If you find someone you get along with, then hobbies and outdoors activities will fall into place and will be discused in the course of a regular conversation ...

Msg 316. No, it isn't like that, Bethlett. At least not where I am.

The guys I've known who hunt are not one-toothed rednecks. They're sportsmen, they understand and respect the animal and the laws that regulate hunting, and they revere the animal whose life they took. I don't know anyone who would drive around with a kill on their hood.

I cook a mean moose stew and an almost sexual elk stroganoff. I do not tolerate bad manners at my table and that includes fork-fisting, no matter how the meat got there.

I wasn’t aware that there were any real hunters left in the USA.

I thought all of them used tactics like luring wildlife with bait, then shooting them dead like one would shoot a dog at its feed bowl, or something.

I guess it’s not like that everywhere, but it sure is like that where I live.

It’s a shame, too, because their habit of killing wildlife as if they were domesticated animals spills over into actually killing domesticated animals for no purpose other than to kill them.

Such behavior also jades them to putting humans in danger as well.

In my opinion, most of today’s “hunters” would starve to death if they had to rely on hunting skills--true hunting skills have practically died out with the older generations.

well actualy i am agaisnt it. i hate the killing of anythihng and most profiles i will not respond to if they say they like hunting. its a turn off to me when a man wants to hunt. to me its jsut murder for nothing when u can go buy the food at the market. hunting is a big pet peeve of mine. but each to their own. im not saying its wrong...im saying i disapprove of it 100 percent. now i know men have to kill in order for the food to get to the market. but the men who do it for a sport is offensive to me.

Happy Camper we have one of those ''canned hunt'' places here in my city. You pay big bucks to go shoot buffalo that come to feeding stations like cows. Woohoo must be tons of fun.
As for teaching guns are bad in school. HA. I wish I could. My kids think guns are cool. In fact many of them have guns, some even bring them to school. Others wait til the weekend to use them on other people. Guns are too glamourized in our society and kids eat it up. They certaily aren't going to listen to some middle aged teacher tell them guns are bad, when they'd rather be home playing video games than in school getting an education.

Hunting over bait is illegal in most states. I think it's a pansy way to hunt.

Try Stalk-style bowhunting. It's DIFFICULT. You have to scout for weeks/months in advance, be a human-scent-free as possible and use cover scents to get close enough to make a shot. Add to that the effective range of a bowshot is between 5 & 40 yards because those dang deer will DUCK under your arrow if you are farther out than that. Not to mention how hard it is to sneak up on a deer instead of sitting in a treestand and hoping one will pass near you...

On the upside it is exactly those hunting skills which made my service in the Army go rather well. The Infantry can ALWAYS use a few more good hunters!

And don't even start me out on how those dopey city boys forget to close the dust cover ont he M-16 after they fire. it takes MONTHS to make 'em understand basic riflery.

Guns/shooting/hunting isn't necessarily a turn off... but I'd prolly be a sucky girlfriend 'cause it's not something I'm into. Hunting doesn't really bother me but it's not something I'd be interested in doing. The whole sitting in a tree waiting for a poor deer to unwittingly walk by so I can shoot it isn't that exciting for me. I also don't like the taste of venison... at all. Elk is tolerable in like.. pepperoni form.
