The footage of the children was sad. They are so indoctrinated. There is no other word for it. I am all for parents teaching their children their faith, but this is not a faith--it is a seige mentality. They teach the children that they are "blessed" when everyone hates them because that proves that they are righteous. In this case, that is just not so. Everyone hates them because they are promoting a bigoted agenda. It's no different to what countless millions of Americans do to their children in the name of faith, only the message is different... I'd rather deal with a few dozen idiots like the Phelps church than (for instance) the entire Southern Baptist wacko cult....

| Westboro Baptist Church Sued Posted: 5/30/2008 6:30:45 PM | Oh, no, no, no, no! You can't brush all southern Baptists with the same stroke! There are decent and progressive southern Baptists who are good people--Jimmy Carter is just one. While Westboro Baptist Church is an insult to Christianity with their bigoted antics, not ALL Baptist churches behave in this manner. Please be fair and not lump ALL people into one "category." Another example: I know two different folks who belong to Assemblies of God churches, and their attitudes toward politics and faith could not be more different. One is a bigoted right winger, while the other is a sweet, kind, moderate independent who doesn't have a hateful bone in her body. I know Catholics who insult the Church's name with demeaning attitudes toward our fellow human beings, while I also cherish and love many beautiful Catholics who truly live by Christ's example. There are conservative and liberal Episcopal parishes too. So, let's take each person and each church as an individual, and not stereotype people. THANK YOU!!!!

There comes a time when, in the face of pure evil and stupidity hiding under the guise of law and rights, you have to make a stand for common decency.

| Westboro Baptist Church Sued Posted: 5/31/2008 5:40:09 PM | Be assured of my donation for your bail Lafenmom.
I agree those evil whackos should pay big time, regretfully though they are probably enjoying all the attention. While I normally do not support vigilantism, I have to admit this group brings out the worse in me. They are not representative of Baptists at all, and are not following the teachings of Christ in my opinion.
They thrive on attention though, so perhaps, I think, a quiet "chat with someone like lafenmom" , in a back alley with no witnesses is the best thing. They deserve to be flogged , to inflict this kind of suffering on families in their time of grief is beyond comprehesion.

| Westboro Baptist Church Sued Posted: 6/1/2008 5:31:07 AM | Thanks dunrich... Funny lady... my heart hurts for your loss, I can only pray (quietly, in my own way) that I don't have to suffer the same... I can't even begin to imagine how I could deal with it....
and no, I wouldn't take them in a back alley... up front and honest is my way. How could any one be expected to hold back in the face of such provocative words?

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/31/funeral.protest/index.html
It's about time somebody did something with these buttholes.I have always felt bad when on my job as a TV news cameraman we have to cover funerals. We try not to be invasive and co operate with families as much as possible and still do our job.If it was up to me we wouldn't cover funerals of accident or murder victims as I feel funerals are places where people should be allowed to privately grieve. They aren't a place for political or religious debates or protests.I wonder how they would like it if one of their members died and another church or organization picketed the funeral about the church's intolerance.I'm sure they would be the first to cry foul.
