I need HELP SOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD

I just had the water pump (2nd time since last November) and timing chain/belt ? (last year only) replaced in my 1993 Mazda MX3. The guy that worked on it had already left by the time I got home. He broke the hose and all the freon that was just put in leaked out. When I got home for some reason I opened the hood to check the antifreeze, the reservoir was showing about 2 inches. Then I tried to start it and no go, (apparently he did not start it before he left) called roadside assist, let it run for about 30 minutes, it was almost in the hot zone. Drove it about 2 blocks and before I could get to the gas station to get antifreeze, it went dead, had to have it towed home. Put antifreeze in the reservoir that night. Would not take a jump on Saturday. Had my son go get a battery and install it for me today. Tries to start but wont turn over. Can anyone please help me. I am praying that it isn't something major, because I really couldn't afford to buy the battery.

I would have to ask what led someone to believe either time that the problem was the water pump? It is common for them to go bad after years of service but to have one go bad after a year leads me to believe that there was another issue, cracked head, blown head gasket, possibly warped block if it was allowed to oeverheat the first time around. Without knowing the history of the vehicle all I can do is speculate.

When I took it to have the oil changed and radiator flushed, the person said he wouldn't do my radiator because the water pump was leaking. Prior to that it had started losing coolant, so I kept adding some periodically. The car has only been driven about 20 miles since early August due to medical conditions. Needless to say I was really upset to hear it was the water pump again. Seems like every time my not to be used again mechanic fixed one thing another broke. The first time around, as soon as I saw it was getting close to the hot zone I pulled over on the freeway to work and had it towed home (about 10 miles.) ??????

I remember a time when us fish stuck together and helped each other out, is that still possible and to be charitable in other ways anymore also? I urge you all to look inward at your heart and help anyone of us in need.
And anyone in need, please speak up, it never hurts to ask for help.

If your mechanic works for a large garage(or just not a freelancer) I would have strong words with him, and one word that would be brought is lawyer! Modern cars do not tolerate being overheated very well. Frequently(no, not always) the head gasket will be ruined and/or the cylinder head warped. Take it to another mechanic. Have him pressurize the coolant system and test it. He may have to use some dye in the coolant to determine small leaks. If you took the car to a "quick lub" place to have the oil changed and the radiator flushed initially, I usually don't take their assessments of a problem with much credibility. Any idiot can flush a radiator and change the oil. Some of them know what they are talking about and will take the time to determine a problem, most of them either won't or can't.

Thanks quietcowboy. I have not looked at this thread in ages. I sold the car this past winter, I just couldn't afford it anymore. I can't get a part time job without a car and I can't get a car without a job. So I'm screwed. But many many thanks for responding.

A few years back we did a canned food drive to raise money as well as canned food for the Mid Ohio Food Bank. i was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing this again this year. it is a huge undertaking, but very well worth it in the end.

Hey Chappy -

Can you start a NEW thread with the same or similar name? Then reference/link to this one if you want in case people want to see the older posts.

Just a thought so people aren't going through 17 pages to get to the current one (I know they can just click the last page, but how do they know there aren't recent messages on other pages) I think newer readers may overlook the fact that some of the messages are years old.

Make it easy for people, and the effort will be even more successful!!

Thanks for being so thoughtful.
