| Platypus and Screwdrivers Posted: 12/4/2007 7:25:12 PM | COGS OF FATE: awhhhh, a man after my own heart -- screenwriting as an interest!!! ...but minus two points 'cause i *uckin' *ate (notice i didn't put the "h" on hate -- very strong word) directors. actually, my best friend is one; we often work together and i'm usually visiting brett ratner's grandparents on the weekends dwn here in miami beach -- the nicest people!
profile'n time: give us a few more pic's. pin up some with you writing...? holding film...? playing the guitar...? you've got plenty of interests that are fasinating, so show us some with pic's.
now, your writing is right on par. matter of fact, hats off with what you're looking for -- you'll find her. just be patient!
as for advice (as once said in the graduate) "two words" (yes, i know the guy said to dustin hoffman one word!!! -- let me finish): "negitive pickup!" -- the real response was "plastics" in the movie. anyhoo, spout these off like spittin' grape seeds outta mouth around folks in the industry -- you'll impress them like you've got a third nipple.
if you know what they mean -- 4 bonus points! if not here ya go: a negitive pickup is when you shot a film and the studio comes in to buy it and you're paid off the total purchase. clerks was shot for 27k i believe and was purchased from mirmax for 270k. it cost 70k to flip it to 35mm, so the rest was pocket change for those involved. for a writer, when i'm paid when writing an indie, i always put in my contact "paid the variable on the total the negitive pickup." it actually just made a difference -- a huge difference because fox's search light bought the film--! and that god for those word in the contract or i woulda been hosed!!
hey, hang in there and you'll make it -- with film making and with his site!

| Rate Me Posted: 12/4/2007 8:02:22 PM | SCHMITTIE: first, schmittie is a great name. i'm actually holdin' back tears 'cause i lost a friend nicknamed that; he was my college roommate -- drunk driver hit him four days before graduation... we were attending Ohio State ...i've never been back since.
first, shot gun outta the hole with this profile. come out strong and give me what you got. you tend to play yourself down even when you're an ohioian, pal!!! the ^uckin' best ^amn state in the nation!!!! you and your family has made it that way -- true mid-westerners!!!! so show us that!!!
now, get rid of that pic -- you look like a campers worst nightmare. throw up some fun ones. christ, you're young. give me young and fun ^amn it!!! ....sorry for all the swearing, my diet's way outta whack again and i'm outta "control me" pills again.
seriously, have a buddy take some shots with you having fun. make sure you're tellin' a story with them. check out brain's profile ( a few above in this tread -- he did a great job). i've assigned you to be his protege.
next, throw on some interests. surf around other profiles and snag some ideas. i.e. music, movies, hobies, etc. i know you've gotta 'em. give 'em to me!
finally, spend sometime on writing your "about me" section. you're a great guy. i bet you're just sick of people passing you by. well, it's meant to be until the right one stops by to give you a chicklet or a pez head. take it from me -- whackos run in herds on here -- keep on a look out!
redo this pup and shoot it back to me. i WON'T leave ya hangin' -- SCOUTS HONOR!!

overall, i like the profile. i think you just gotta be patient. your an artist, and as one myself, too we tend to sing that kermit the frog song _______ anyone.... anyone.... something about being alone or doing too many drugs in the forest during a full moon or mooning-- some'tin like that, can't remember for the life of me what that *uckin' song was, but i'm humming it now.
the only suggestion i have is play around with posting a variety of pic's from week to week.

| Platypus and Screwdrivers Posted: 12/4/2007 9:02:27 PM | hehehe...you crack me up! I was surprised because I didn't think they COULD be pets! I remember learning about them before I started kindergarten. Random story: Last week I was watching "Family Fued" with my mom. It was the final showdown and the category said: "Animals with Funny Feet". I said, "duck billed platypus!" Of course, did I think that anyone else would choose that as well? Nope. Well, guess what? Someone did! The 2nd contestant used that as her guess, and in 100 people polled, 2 people said Platypus! What are the odds?! :D
Just thought I'd share. :) And I'm glad you're no longer force fed. ;)

| Platypus and Screwdrivers Posted: 12/4/2007 9:16:01 PM | Thanks for the advice. I'll get some more pics up ASAP.
As for "negative pickup", I'm actually still sort of unclear what you mean. Is it the amount the studio pays total (the 270) or the amount specifically it costs for a 35mm transfer (the 70).
Also, what exactly is "the variable on the total the negative pickup"? Is that just another way of saying "a percentage of the total buyout cost"? Do you get paid nothing at all if you aren't in on a slice of the negative pickup? This is, of course, wildly off-topic. So feel free to 'not' respond :p
FYI, Screenwriting is actually my first passion, but at the level I work at (somewhere between "student" and "no-budget") if you write it... you're probably also directing it.

| Platypus and Screwdrivers Posted: 12/5/2007 9:35:29 AM | Thanks chris. I was in the navy for 6 years and I never got sea legs. I'm kind of anti-boat as well unless it is rather large, like a cruise ship or air craft carrier.

Hey there fellow artist. Thank you so very much for taking the time to review my profile. Mainly because I am a perfectionist & have alot of time on my hands right now, I have tweaked and re-tweaked my profile..making it a bit shorter & taking out some interests..I don't think I need to have like 4 different painters I like up there etc. I have been told by many others on here, that men have short attention spans & when they see a loong profile they just click away from it AND that they only look at the pics. So, in taking your advice I took some new more intriguing pics with my brand new digital camera.
I guess I do have to be more patient...I actually am working on trying to bring out some more humour in my profile though - artists can be taken to be soo serious, so I even changed my profile heading.
Hmm could that song be Rainbow Connection? It is one of my fave songs actually of all time...the one where he is sitting on the log with his banjo?
Anyhow, now that this is almost a novel..I shall leave ya. Thanks again, greatly appreciated - you are very good at reviewing!

First things first, no fair throwing up a picture of your (assuming its yours) Ducati. I told myself a new bike was in the cards for '09, not '08 *sigh* At least it wasn't a 1098 or a monster.
Anyways, I'd appreciate some feedback on the profile. I don't seem to be attracting much attention.
