| What's your own talent that brings you your most joy? Posted: 11/14/2007 6:22:13 PM | The talent I have that brings others most joy is ... Oh, that brings ME the most joy ... they are one and the same. The talent I posses that brings others, and myself, the very most joy, is my ability to find that lil' spot in the middle of a vast body of water that contains mammals. You ever see the face of a person from Nebraska, who has never seen the ocean, in the middle of a pod of 5,000 Dolphin? Epic! One of the most tear wrenching moments of my life was when I had to carry this 90 sum lady onto the boat. When I sat her down she said, "Before I die I want to see a whale." I replied, "I will see what I can do." Two hours into, and nearing the end of, the trip I looked to the heavens, as this old lady was looking up at me, and recited Psalm 104: 24- 26. BOOM! Blue Whale! As we were unloading the passengers this frail old lady leapt into my arms crying and kissing my cheek saying over and over,"Thank you!" She and I cried like a babies! Every passenger hugged me crying. 2 Weeks later the office got an E-mail from her son. She had passed and he thanked me for granting her last wish. Of course, the only thing I had to do with it was spotting the Leviathan that God sent her. It is often the littlest of things that we do in every day life that have the most impact on others. I am truely blessed with a job that I love which brings people joy. I must now mops the tears from my keyboard.

| What's your own talent that brings you your most joy? Posted: 11/14/2007 6:45:24 PM | I have recently discovered that I inherited the artistic ability that my mother had.
As a child, all us kids had our rooms painted in a theme. My mother would spend hours painting images on our walls and such. My niece one day mentioned to me that she wanted to redo her room in a "Paris" theme. I said I would do it for her, not knowing if I could or not and how it would turn out, in the end she now has the Eiffel tower, Arc de' Triomph and other things painted on her walls. I had a blast doing it and even better my 12 y/o niece loved it!! (whew...) What makes her happy makes me even happier......

I've always been 'creative', being the progeny of artists, though I had only 'dabbled' in different things. Until, one day approx. 5 short years ago.....in the middle of a mosaics class I was taking, 'cause it sounded interesting and something I'd always wanted to try. ....a mini-epiphany happened...."This is what I want to do with my life!" Doing something you love puts you in that 'zone' where all other problems and niggling irritations in life just 'fall away'.....brings me joy and occasionally, hopefully, brings others enjoyment when viewed/used.

Sitting there and playing your own song on a piano and hitting certain crescendo's, makes for a good stress reliever.

Singing, very amature, usually folky and if it's raunchy (ala Oscar Brand) it's gotta be good. Sometimes accompany myself with a piano, guitar, or anything else I can make noise with.
Photography, which goes hand in hand with hiking, backpacking and crawling under ground, to get to things that very few see.
Building things, like putting together an Adirondack chair out of a couple of oak pallets. When I had a scrap iron pile I used to weld yard ornaments. Most moved in some way. Still got the torch :-)

OT: Spotting the many absurdities that are present in almost every situation in life, then trying not to make sense of them.

| What's your own talent that brings you your most joy? Posted: 6/1/2008 4:27:30 PM | I enjoy painting and have even sold a few. I've donated a few prints to charity for auction so there are a few of 'mine' hanging in someone's home or office. I also have an 'artsy fartsy' gene and have several birdhouses that I've decorated / painted out and about. I also enjoy writing poetry - hope to compile enough of them one day to publish a book of poetry. My goal is 40 - only 35 more poems to go! | |
