| Golden Compass Promotes Hate Posted: 6/11/2008 8:27:05 PM | Here, let me break it down for you.
which is all christianity seems to be good for characterises ALL Christians as people who "ram intolerance into children's heads". Now, I know for an absolute fact that my children, both Christians, both taught their faith from an early age, and both encouraged to explore said faith, are extremely tolerant of others. More so than you actually. They would never make such a sweeping statement about any group. I also know hundreds, maybe thousands, of other Christians, who do no act as you claim they do. Thus, your generalisation about Christians is without merit, and a convenient scapegoat for your own intolerance towards this group.
Get it? No, I didn't think so. | |

| Golden Compass Promotes Hate Posted: 6/12/2008 7:29:15 PM | | You just proved my point by saying your kids were "taught their faith from an early age". That's brainwashing your own children to believe something simply because you choose to which is what is so insidious about religion. Don't worry, if they are true christians they will learn intolerance sooner or later anyway. You obviously didn't actually read my post since I already said that I'm VERY intolerant towards religion because of my experiences with it. The difference between me and a christian is that I'm not trying to guilt people into thinking my way and I'm not ramming atheism down their throats. I don't need a "scapegoat" for anything I think because I don't make any apologies to anyone for my opinions. They are what they are. You don't have to read my opinions if you don't like them. | |

| Golden Compass Promotes Hate Posted: 6/12/2008 8:24:57 PM | | And yet my children are more tolerant o others than you., That really blows your thesis out of the water, my friend. Anyway, I'm done here. You are set in your prejudice and bias and reason will not change you. Bigotry is as bigotry does. Now, feel free to have the last word. HAND. | |

| Golden Compass Promotes Hate Posted: 6/12/2008 9:49:08 PM | | I think it's unrealistic to imagine that parents of faith won't raise their children according to their own world view, whether Christian or atheist or whatever. Where the difficult arises, IMO, is when those same parents then set about villifying someone like Philip Pullman, or a film based on his books, because HIS world view doesn't gel with theirs. Neither Pullman or the people who made the film have any responsibility or moral obligation to uphold Christian ideals in their work, and publicly raging about that only serves to support the idea that many have of fundamentalist Christians as, basically, intolerant and paranoid people. | |

| Golden Compass Promotes Hate Posted: 6/13/2008 9:09:25 AM | | romantic: Yeah, I'm pretty much prejudice towards any group or faction that's caused a lot of evil, genocide, destruction and torture throughout the course of history. I'm funny that way. I guess I should learn to be more tolerant of suffering since it seems to be the religious way to think. Just becuase some individuals that are brainwashed by a religion do some acts of kindness every once in awhile does not excuse the bigger picture and does not excuse the fact that they have chosen to be a part of something like that. The sooner we evolve out of our primitive fear and need for a diety, the better off society will be. | |
