Bump.

I've noticed a few Industrial/EBM/Dark Electro club nights cropping up where I live in the UK, which is damn cool! I'm so bored of going into clubs playing mainstream dance/pop/rNb so hopefully the trend will continue elsewhere.

I saw Combichrist in London a few months ago, they ooze with such adrenaline!

Also saw NIN in the 02 London in July, anyone here go to it? Gary Newman made a surprise guest appearance which blew me away.

I've seen Sleep Chamber live once. They had a great show. Very...pornographic. Thrill Kill's first album will always be a fave. I have the Oblique Collection on vinyl still, but I've never gotten much play out of it. It predates industrial dance. Throbbing Gristle inspired a lot of experimental music like that, which many referred to as industrial. They sort of spawned that whole industrial/experimental tape trading cult. Anything on Wax Trax is pretty good. I got to see Skinny Puppy live--maximum effort in set design! Bozo's Porno Circus is of interest. Pig, Delirium, Foetus...there's a zillion good industrial bands, but the first one by Thrill Kill really got me...it just sounded seriously evil to me...Do You Fear For Your Child...

The Genitorturers are AWFUL! ! I've seen them twice, only their stageshow is passable. .

Skinny Puppy, Covenant, Front 242, and Combichirst are in the forefront of making the music what it is and shaping the sound for the future. . Skinny Puppy will always be the band that redefined and revitalized the industrial scene. Period. Trent Reznor had to copy Ohgr's stage persona just to keep up with his ever changing views and styles. I do enjoy Ministry, but only the With Sympathy album, it was A darker version of The Cure that I very much enjoyed.

Good topic. I do not know if I can define what is Industrial Metal. I can name bands that exemplify it like Ministry. When I think of Industrial I think of repetitive heavy grinding guitar/bass lines and the whole song having 3 or 4 chord progressions to it. Nothing like Melodic Metal where the guitarist is all over the neck and uses like 10 progressions in a 4 minute song.

It is hard to explain what Industrial is to people who do not listen Metal, but those of us whom are Headbangers know it when we hear it. Industrial just has a different vibe to it and I love it!

yep that is an interesting cd, and the only music in this genre (apparently) that I listen to. I did not expect to like NIN, but I do very much. It would probably be pretty good sex music, but haven't had the chance......yet....

I absolutely adore industrial music. It's probably my favorite blanket-genre. Unfortunately, I can never discuss it with any other big fans of the genre because they all seem to be pretentious assclowns whose logic is that if it's well-known, it's not actually any form of industrial, period (why yes, I am referring to the people who whine about Trent Reznor being more popular than some guy who programmed the synths on a Pigface song fifteen years ago)

My favorite bands that can be considered industrial:

NIN (yeah... probably my favorite band)
Skinny Puppy
ohGr
Ministry (all eras, from the early synthpop, even up to the somewhat generic thrash metal and****rock covers)
Revolting****
Godflesh
Marilyn Manson (I know, he seems kind of out-of-place with 'real' industrial bands, but you can't say Antichrist Superstar wasn't a kickass industrial rock album)
Throbbing Gristle
PIG
Front Line Assembly
Velvet Acid Christ
Gary Numan (his new wave as well as his recent NIN-style stuff)

I'm also getting into electronic noise stuff like Wolf Eyes and Merzbow, which I consider to be related to industrial, but some people wouldn't.

Industrial music saved my life(long story) and it turns out that it occupy s 90% of my listening. It is the reason i got into music and play multiple instruments. In general industrial music just used to mean "experimental music" but now a days after its been aged and modernized it has its own sub-categories. It consists of various sounds that you dont generally hear in music outside that genre. People create there own sounds, heavy synth/midi mixed with a heavy beats, intense guitars, distortion bass and the mesmerizing, moving lyrics is what does it for me
