| Metal. Posted: 7/2/2008 3:51:08 AM | nobody gets me wrong but metal age is finished:) i mean there are still good bands etc but it s not that popular as before it s more underground and i like it that way | |
|
| Metal. Posted: 7/2/2008 4:22:05 AM | There is no way that metal is dead or dying! Its as popular as ever i mean hello look at maiden! selling out stadiums all over the world! even places they have never released an album! young bands like Bullet for my valentine or FFAF are selling out venues and shifting some decent figures in the album stakes too. It will never die. EVER. The extreme side will always be a little less popular but thats meant to be that way. Do you really want your mum coming into your bedroom to nick your latest black/doom/goathumping/scandinavian death metal CD......???? nope! I reckon metal is doing just fine as it is. It will evolve and become a bigger kind of monster every few years. Nu metal wasn't bad metal. Some was really bad! some was really good. But it was too restricted to survive for long.... Only The strong survive! | |

| Metal. Posted: 7/2/2008 12:38:03 PM | I personally think we are in the new golden age, so many more bands producing heavy stuff.
Bands like Dimmu Borgir, Strapping Young Lad, Chimera, Gwar (still), Arch Enemy, mastodon, etc... are all making awesome new albums and most of the music (IMO) is better than anything Metallica could pull out of their tight shrivelled arseholes. Sepultura is staill making music though!
Also Dave Brockie Experience (DBX) is an amazing band that hasn't been hugely popular, I recommend any of you Gwar lovers look it up (Dave Brockie is the lead singer of Gwar).

| Metal. Posted: 7/3/2008 3:22:03 AM | | Yea, mtv and much music are da poop. I miss the days of metal on TV :( | |
|
| Metal. Posted: 7/3/2008 6:08:17 AM | Ever heard of Kerrang! tv??? all they do is play metal vids!!!! all day....and all night!!!! scuzz tv? the same. MTV2? VH1...or 2?...... metal is still there. I personally don't want Maiden or Bolt Thrower vids right before or after a britney spunks video!!!! Thanks but no thanks! The main stream fear metal, they don't know how to handle it or where to put it. Main stream sucks. End of. Metal rules! it sells it reigns supreme. And your mum listening to nightwish is hardly shocking is it? if you'd said you head banged to lamb of god with you....then maybe i'd have a chuckle! Anyway fair play to her dude and rock on! | |

| Metal. Posted: 7/7/2008 12:01:34 PM | The mainstream and metal have never belonged together. And the best metal acts have always been the underground ones. S
Saying that I`m not sure Isis are that underground so I could be talking balls. Anyway, Xasthur is where it`s at.
|
| Metal. Posted: 7/7/2008 7:22:52 PM | Rob Zombie said it well in an interview "Metal and mainstream have never gotten along, that it part is why it works so well"
The only time Metal and the mainstream really ever worked was, and this is only a kinda...Metallica's Black album. Yes it was more "hard rock" but nothing else got close.
And if anyone else mentions guns and roses as metal, you have no reason to talk about metal =)
|
| Metal. Posted: 7/7/2008 8:17:28 PM | I used to feel the same way but there are new good bands coming out. I know they will never seem as good as our nostalgia makes our past but some are pretty good.
Right now I'm digging on Arch Enemy. The vocals and the riffs on the new cd are amazing.

| Metal. Posted: 7/7/2008 11:16:49 PM | How can metal be dead when the Rockstar Mayhem Tour is one of the biggest tours this summer? Disturbed, Slipknot, Mastadon, Dragonforce, Five Finger Death Punch, Underoath, 36 Crazy Fists, and a lot more. Can't wait for July 25 in Dallas. That's where I'm catchin it. | |

| Metal. Posted: 7/13/2008 11:30:28 PM | Well,I am gonna say it CHILDREN OF BODOM...they are my favorite... Alexi is a wicked guitarist that sings at the same time and does it better than you and or they. Alexi is an amazing metal songwriter who writes better METAL songs than you and or they do...and he is not a bad metal singer...
Roope is what being a METAL guitar player is all about and he does it better then you and or them... The keybored player is a monster player, very very wicked player... Blooddrunk is a good metal album with some very wicked singing and guitar playing going on and a very tight band they are...well maybe a little loose butt whatever they still my fav...

| Metal. Posted: 7/15/2008 2:26:07 AM | its dead in amarica,,,to say its dead whould be a lie. look at wacken open air.....amaricas metal has been underground for a good 15 years. we have to many other genres to have a huge top. even radio played non metal bands are playing free shows everywhere just to make ends meet. the bands that are selling out stadiums are older bands. that never stopped gaining momentum. bands that broke out of genres. radiohead, tool, or nin are a good example. dream theater and opeth are becoming huge bands comparable to metallica and iron maiden of that age
bassicly progressive metal has become the new big face of metal. with thrash/melo death at close #2

| Metal. Posted: 7/15/2008 8:36:58 PM | Metal is constantly changing.( look at how many genres there are). True, that most of it is not accepted by the mainstream, but it is far from being dead. Some Bands Iv'e been listening to alot of lately and worth checking out:
Resistant Culture- crust/grind with native american influences Eluvietie- Incredible pagan celtic folk metal ! Epica- Symphonic
Daath- melodic death with a bit of industrial

| Metal. Posted: 7/19/2008 7:01:14 AM | well i turned twelve in 1980. john Bonham , and john lennon died, ac/dc released back in black and the eagles broke up( I think). I have seen AC/DC twice, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Kim mitchell, Lee AAron, and many others among them Metallica. Nobody makes music like these guys anymore. I may sound narcisstic yet heavymetal was definitely a genre for the eighties. pretty much the only music that didnt suck during the 80`s.
Take Care

| Metal. Posted: 7/21/2008 5:58:52 PM | This thread is about extreme metal, not Black Sabbath, AC-DC etc... Please thoroughly read my original post before clicking the "post reply" button. Thank you.
By the way. Please stop listing your 10 favorite bands that you saw at Ozzfest last year. The bands that I listed in the OP were actually original in that they defined entire genres, unlike many of the "OMG KILLSTIWHC INGGAGE BEST EVER" posts I'm continuously seeing. Try giving an explanation as to why the bands you recommend are so ground breaking instead of demanding others they must listen.
At this point I still believe extreme metal's best days were and will continue to be the late 80's/early 90's. I also believe that there will never be another golden age of metal, merely more imitators of what has already been done and bands/record labels that coin there hardcore pop as the next wave of amazing metal. If it isn't selling it's because it's underground, where the best metal will forever lie.

Ok, so just how hard does something have to be before you, in your infinate metal wisdom, call it metal?? I'm just curious.
I read the first post, and I agree with you that there were bands like Metallica that defined the genre, and you are more of a fan of the death and thrash metal, but if you didn't want people discussing other metal genres you should have entitled this thread Death Metal.
You sound very much like a child of the 80's. I haven't checked out your profile so forgive me if I am incorrect. I myself grew up in the mid and late 90's. Metallica was, and still is awesome, but it wasn't the music that inspired me and ushered me into the metal fold.
It was bands like Slipknot and Disturbed that got me started, and yes Disturbed IS metal. I know I'm gonna get thrashed for that but I don't care. Just because David Draiman can ACTUALLY sing, instead of scream it means that they aren't metal??
I completely agree that Metallica and Anthrax were pioneers in the genre and the 80's have some of the best metal ever produced, but I very much disagree with the idea that the late 80's were metal's best days. It would be very sad if that were true.
I got started in metal with The Sickness, Disturbed's first album. I listened to it so much that I actually wore the cd out. From there I moved on to Slipknot and Mudvayne, and have now found bands like Mastadon, Five Finger Death Punch, and 36 Crazy Fists.
All of these bands have amazing guitar riffs, awesome solos, and fantastic beat and tempo, all the stuff that the great 80's bands had. One thing that they have that only a few 80's groups had however is a frontman that can ACTUALLY sing.
I've seen in just the last few years, lots of new metal groups emerge that continually just blow me away. Plus we are seeing the reemergence of icons like Metallica, can't wait for the new album. I think that NOW is the golden age of Metal.
