| Metal. Posted: 3/20/2008 10:40:55 AM | Just picked up the latest by Blood Red Throne-Come Death(earache records).
Maybe I missed something but I dont recall "Altered Genesis" sounding quite like this new album. This album reeks of newer Cannibal Corpse in sound, structure and formula. Not a bad thing, but much more polished than the previous effort.
I hate to get all "old sounding", but snooping thru the CD bins at FYE in the Metal section, I can only scratch my head and wonder who the hell are all these bands? Bands playing that mutant DM crossed with HC(the kind where they really arent good at guitar playing, but are heavy) have really put a foul taste in my mouth.
Ive also grown to hate this "new"(?) wave of melodic DM as well. Again, looks like kids who should be playing HC or something else instead and not causing me fits.
I hope Lost Soul has a new album out.

I'm playing some metal/rock right now...tune in :)

| Metal. Posted: 3/21/2008 12:30:24 AM | | The FYE's here in Washington state suck major ass. If there was a metal section, it wasn't that great of a selection. I personally go to small record shops since they have bands that I like. There was a small record shop by my place called Bubble Records and it was ****ing awesome. Had alot of music and a really nice metal selection, if they didn't have what you're looking for they can order it for you at a decent price. I loved that shop until they went bankrupt. | |

| Metal. Posted: 3/21/2008 11:00:05 AM | Living in Iowa is a pain in the ass. There is a great metal specialty store thats a good 80 miles from where I live. Pretty damn good prices and a huge selection. Really surprises me with all the different stuff they stock.
I used to work at the FYE store, and many times they'd have bands in the wrong section. I distinctively recall Goatwhore in the rock and not metal section. There were others, but that one comes to mind 1st.

| Metal. Posted: 3/22/2008 10:34:45 AM | | Metal will never truly die, check out some of the new stuff that is out there now it's unbelievable. I seen Devil Driver in concert a couple nights ago and these guys can tear it up on stage. If you can see As I Lay Dying, Devil Driver, God Forbid or other bands like this live you will see exactly what metal has to offer now. I know A.I.L.D is a christian band but I seen them in January and I have to say these guys tear the roof off live. | |

| Metal. Posted: 3/22/2008 7:53:31 PM | | To be honest the only time that metal was ever a really big thing was the 80's. Sadly I was only a baby when this happened. But I've found that there are so many different genres from Screamo to Hair Metal to Symphonic that it all derives from the same place. Just to each their own. As I Lay Dying is a great band. Last year I was lucky enough to see In This Moment before they started going huge around the globe. They are an amazing band and the lead vocalist had my eyes wide the whole time they were on the stage. As long as there are outcasts there will be metal. None of us were ever the "cool" kids in high school, so we will always find refuge in metal. | |

| Metal. Posted: 3/22/2008 9:00:29 PM | The FYE here sucks. Or did. I haven't been there for a while. They only had bigger bands like Dark Tranquillity and Into Eternity. Nothing that I know of along the lines of Bloodbath, Mercenary, Naglfar, or Epica. I know I found Vader and the obvious Megadeth.
I've just learned to accept nothing in my area will have 98.9% of anything I want.
|
| Metal. Posted: 3/23/2008 3:23:18 PM | At OP, that's what I've always thought. You pretty much named all the bands I would've too.
At the moment I think Prog Metal bands like Galneryus and Dream Theater are still churning out memorable and worthwile music.

| Metal. Posted: 3/24/2008 6:42:45 PM | i think it depends on whop you hang out with and where you are. you think they have a lot of g-unit in the netherlands where bands like satyricon, gorgoroth and mayhem rule? just because they're not topping the charts here in north america doesn't mean they're gone. and with tools such as soulseek and limewire, it's actually become easier for bands to get exposure.....even if it is free. | |

| Metal. Posted: 3/29/2008 4:51:47 PM | | I just learned today via a lyrics site that bloodbath released an EP recently. Im really hoping the local store has it, but id guess they dont. Easily my favorite DM band of all time. Not the best by any means, but those guys play a style Ive yet to tire of. | |

If you're talking about the Unblessing The Purity ep from Bloodbath, then you should definitely get it. its really good in my opinion.

| Metal. Posted: 4/3/2008 8:43:36 PM | Check out 'Sanctuary' by Cavalera Conspiracy. The Sepultura chief delivers some nice guitar work, vocals not ugly, pretty fast, great riffs. Really liked it | |

| Metal. Posted: 4/3/2008 9:17:15 PM | | I grew up listening to all of those bands. Mostly the thrash and death. I think we already are having another golden age. It's in the very early stages but bands like Opeth, Machine Head, Gojira, Mastodon, Baroness, Mistaken Element, Klone, SYL and a lot of others are bringing their own original and skillful brand of metal to the forefront. We did have a bit of a slump for a few years when nu-metal seemed to be the only metal coming out but things are getting better. Metal is not dead. | |

Unaware of this. Have to look now.

I'd say the same thing. It's a bit different from both their albums, closer to RTC, but after listening, I think I prefer it. I love the vocals compared to Tatgren's.

+1 You might already know this but it was news to me. The front man from Bloodbath is also the front man from Opeth. I've been listening to both bands for years but only recently bothered to look at the names of the band members. Talk about range. Mikael Akerfeldt is my hero.

| Metal. Posted: 4/4/2008 2:01:59 PM | | I love metal and always will. Slayer, Metallica, Pantera, Black Sabbath all the way. I'll gladly listen to 80's metal over the new stuff. | |

Pretty cool huh? Bloodbath is pretty much an all-star band with different members from well known swedish bands. Like Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy (Only replaced Mikael for awhile), Anders Nyström and Jonas Rynkse of Katatonia, Mikael Åkerfeldt and Martin Axenrot of Opeth. It's a pretty sweet lineup to put out killer music..
Check out illdisposed's new album "The Prestige" weak cover but from a couple songs I heard, it's back to the old-school sound they had without the annoying electronica parts.

| Metal. Posted: 4/9/2008 6:10:54 PM | I think metal is on it's way back, but it is now in a new form.
Look at the bands such as Dragonforce and Dream Theater, they can headline festivals which have well over 50,000 people. Also they a charting in the top ten in Europe.
