| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/9/2007 2:10:39 PM | too many small mined m0rons me thinks ,, ffs some should look beyond spelling etc and see inside a person..
Not to mention - there are a lot of people who are new to the world of computers, not to mention unaware of the perfection sought by a Few 'mental-midgets' who seem to think that spelling, grammar and academia have a lot to do with a persons character.
Did you know that Jeffery Dalmer won spelling bees as a child?
OK - I'm not saying he did, but you don't know!

p.s. If you do the research, you Will find that a large # of those who have committed heinous acts against members of society, have 'apparently' also had above average IQ's, so fear not the one who rejects you for your grammar or spelling - be happy they didn't invite you over for dinner!

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 4:21:36 AM | | what is POF populated with nothing but highschool english teachers? If improper spelling bothers you so much that it influences who you talk to than thats silly but I will say this... These things are about first impressions and if your first impression is all sloppy and messy than that says something about you and the same goes for a perfectly polished email. Now I agree that these things do have some influence but they shouldnt be the deciding factor in wether or not you respond to someones email. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 4:33:48 AM | | I don't like computer short hand, such as U instead of You. It makes me think I'm reading something a five year old wrote. One or two mispelled words doesn't bother me because it could be as simple as a typing error. But if it's more than a couple of words, it will get no response from me. | |

Awwwww I guess I must be one of those mental midgets because for ME personally......
No, I don't respond to emails that are chock full of mispellings or ( worse), words that are used improperly, and in the wrong fashion and context.
A typo here and there is ok, but you can smell an uneducated person a mile away.
I much prefer an articulate, well educated man who can put correctly spelled words together to form a sentence.

Guess I better go pick up the latest version of hooked on Ebonics.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 5:21:25 AM | While I don't mind a little "chat-speak" in a text or IM, it bothers me when it's in an e-mail. I like an intelligent woman who not only knows HOW to write, but actually takes the time to do so.
As for typos... Yes, people are entitled to a typo here and there. But, misspelled words are generally *underlined* in an e-mail, so I would hope someone would see if they had a dozen misspelled words and take the time to correct them.
The point is, everyone makes mistakes, whether it be spelling or in grammar. And a few mistakes aren't a big deal. It's when nearly everything the person writes is misspelled or grammatically incorrect that it becomes annoying.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 6:06:17 AM | I'm not looking for nor do I expect perfection! However, as said in many other PP's, your email and/or your profile is the first 'appearance' to others. So it should be, I would think, free of typos and words used incorrectly.
It is a pet-peeve of mine to receive emails filled with typos or mis-used, misspelled words. However, I have responded to them in some cases anyway. The best emails I've received have more then 3 sentences to them and holds a conversational tone. It suggests that the sender has the ability to SPEAK the same way.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 6:23:46 AM | Depends on how bad the spelling is. Having been on the internet long enough to realize that most people don't even make an attempt to spell anything properly (never have quite figured out what the difference is as far as effort goes) it only starts to matter when they can't string four or five words together into a coherent sentence. If I have to decipher what was said then that tells me enough and it says "Not for me." Poor spelling means screwing up one out of every five or six words. I'm talking about people who can't even get the basics of punctuation right. It's not a matter of seeking perfection in grammar and syntax , it's simply wanting somebody who can spell well enough to make themselves understood. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 8:03:05 AM | | I respond to everyone if only to tell them I don't think we are a good match. I would tell them gently that they should maybe watch their writing more carefully, that it may help them in their goals. I have seen some very very bad profiles and I'm sure those men are sitting there wondering why they are not getting any e-mails. I am often tempted to e-mail them and tell them it would be helpful to fix it but I'm sure that would be rude. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 8:16:19 AM | OMG! I am 50 not 5!! Geez! I figger them thar folks whu kaint handle responding to an email because of grammar or speeling airors shud get diplomas and teech! lol There are people with VERY high IQ's who Purposely mispelll, use improper grammar etc. why? Becuz they are people pleezers and know that some just aren't happy unless they are complaining and/or Trying 2 control udders. And they izn't even farmers!
I also find that purposely messing with the language is both enjoyable (somefamous writers are knwn 4 it) AND helps to flush out those that read far too much into a note that may have taken a 1 finger (newbie) typist half an hour to pound out! We don't all type 110words a minute! Yes - I do, and No I don't spellcheck - there are more important things (to me).
A polite "sorry but not interested" is just too easy. Completely ignore an email? Only if it's rude, then block/delete. No need to be hurtful.

Posted: 12/13/2007 3:08:47 PM | To all the small minded muppets who say they will not answer, have you ever considered that some may be dyslexic!!! Would you ignore a misspelt letter from Richard Brandson asking you to come for dinner, as its said that hes dyslexic.
My son is dyslexic and because he may not be able to spell or have correct grammar it does not make him stupid or uneducated or a bad person. Henry Winkler (The Fonz) is said to be dyslexic, Einstein too, as are a lot more people who are both talented and clever. Its aslo siad taht no mattar how thigns are seplt it maeks no odds as lnog as the frist and lsat ltters are crorrcet as the brain porcessess wohel wrdos not idnivdual ltters. I am not a fuking walking talking dictionary and neither is anyone else. those degrees and mispelled words have made me a very wealthy man, but then i'm not a bit ch, cause i'm just smart to get the message of what people write. | If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 3:39:52 PM | I'm sorry, but a high level of literacy and education are important to me. I believe that how one presents themselves while trying to make their best impression can be indicative of these two factors.
I spend a lot of time reading - be it news, books, etc. I like to be able to discuss high level concepts with whomever I am with.
I understand the occassional typo so I am forgiving for the most part, but if I cannot clearly understand what you are trying to say please do not expect a response from me.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 4:02:08 PM | | I have to agree with a lot of the posters... I hesitate to write to someone who has a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes in either their profile or their email. And no, I'm not perfect - far from it - but I do believe that proper spelling and grammar show a lot about a person's intelligence and pride. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 12/13/2007 6:31:59 PM | Pride? lmfao
People missspelll wurds all the time. I know I do it lots, sometimes on purpose - because Seriously - I do Not want to waste my time with someone who thinks they can actually glean anything about a persons true character from their grammar or ability to spell. The majority of those who have 'perfect' grammar and spelling are likely using the tools made available on the net - grammatic/spellcheck etc. So in reality that little english test proves Nothing except the poster has a few tools at their disposal. However; those who choose to Not respond to an email or note because of a few errors (or purposely editted words) Do show a great deal of "who" they are.
I personally would prefer to respond to and spend my time with a man who has a pleasant personality (even if he can't spell personality!) .. a man who cares about others.. a man with a big heart, sense of humour and integrity is Much more appealing to me than one who can "show" his IQ in his writings.
He's a real a'hole, beats me regular, doesn't work and won't let me have any friends over .. but OMG can he spell! And his grammar is flawless. Whatta keeper!! ;) Pride. btw - in case anyone read that last few lines and took it serious - I am not in a relationship nor would I be in one if there was even 1 incident of violence. It was just an example to make my point. Thank you for letting me make a few spelling errors ;)

Typing fast or if English is his second language is whole different ball game. It just shows that he is not very worldly. I like a man to be able to be knowledgeable about just anything.
