If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond?
Posted: 10/13/2008 11:36:57 PM
This is one of my pet peeves, I hit delete as soon as i open one that is full of mispelled words and half arse attempts at a complete sentence. Now everyone has a missed mistake once in a while but not a sentence full.

How can them talking in person be the same as them typing or writing? I have 2 friends who have dyslexia, they can talk perfectly fine, yet neither can spell and neither have good grammar when it comes to writing in English.

I think that's shallow to throw someone aside just because of a dyslexic problem they have. That's my opinion, so if a lassie came across me and her spelling wasn't that great, or grammar? I'd acknowledge them
I would think your friends would learn to use Wrod which would help correct spelling and grammar or at least emplain to the person they were connecting of their condition. So I think again this is laziness and or a sign of not communicating well.

I did it yesterday - a woman sent me her phone number with a mildly ambiguous message, could have been hinting at some raunch, but it put me right off. I could picture Angie from the first series of East Enders. I messaged back politely I hope but basically thanks but no thanks.

Now I am being driven nuts by over use of inappropriate punctuation! Why are people using commas in between sentences? Why are people typing,,,? Today I saw a post where someone used ... ??? etc. Don't there space bars work right, do they think it looks cool, or are they just being stupid?

Why are people typing,,,?

I, don't know...! Have any, clues as to y,,,,,?

Maybe your just being overly anal today. Just raising the bar from your usual!

But really who cares? I would do it just to tick the anal nuggets off. I post to have some fun, not to be critiqued by someone who thinks they are superior in some way!

Maybe your

you're
It shows that you don't care how you represent yourself in black and white.
It shows you seem to be intimidated by those that are intelligent and care that their posts are clear by means of utilizing the English language correctly.

OOOpps, I guess I was typing too fast and mispelt their and spelling check won't catch that. I am human and make mistakes. I admit it.

bad spelling and grammar....one of my personal pet peeves! if i can't decipher what it is they are trying to say in their message, i don't respond. i don't think it's being critical...it's called personal preference.

Thanks Gangsta Kitten. you saved me the time!

Funny how the righteous fall. But it's even funnier when they trip them selves!

I am not so in fear of others opinions to make sure I meet all of their criteria! I got that way when I became comfortable with who I am. Once I learned to like me, others judgemental and snotty comments became nothing more then humorous!

A free misspelling spirit! I care about others but not about what they think of me!
Besides who really give a crap about someone from here passing their judgement ?
I know I don't!lol It shows more about them then it does me!

I guess I don't think as highly of them as they do, go figure!

I will also add that there is a huge difference between bad grammar / spelling verses bad typing skills. As I am the worst typist ever I know the difference when reading someones message to me. Such as my last post which was horrible An "m" instead of the "n" sort of thing.

In English, as distinct from American (or maybe Microsoftian) people are people not things. Therefore, when referring to people, "those that" is wrong and "those who" (or maybe "they who" depending on context, is correct.

Oh no, some are trolls and stalkers on here...I think it is fairly obvious who tried to flame me. Or maybe I should say what.

I have also noticed quotes being done wrong. People putting not putting the punctuation inside such as commas, periods and question marks. Maybe POF could have some grammar helps for us. Ok, maybe not.

If you don't care for the many pages of people's opinions on not caring for bad English, why read it? Why would anyone care why it bothers me that I have noticed people putting ... and ,,, it does. It makes it difficult to read without breaks between the sentences and I wonder if their space bar is broken. I don't see that as being really snobby or anything else. I know that some people get off on trolling, so I guess I just have to accept that these guys want to read all of my posts. I know I am so interesting... The guy I am dating thinks I am and that is the only man I care about.

I'd take bad spelling over some body who would represent themselves as a clown shoe in the forums any day.

I give this post an A- (minus points for using the same "..." at the end of your post that you say you dislike at the beginning)

This is a huge tern orf for moi. I am a self proclaimed snob in this department. I find it disturbing that it's the most basic of words that are misspelt. It makes my 3 year old...dog look like a freak'n genius.

There are just way to many reasons to discount another person.

Thread after thread about red flags or deal breakers.
Complaints come from every aspect of the site!

Improper pic, pic with drink in hand, pic holding child, pic with opposite sex, pic showing to much skin. not enough skin, and then there is no pic.

Job's, lack of job's, car, no car, tattoos, lack of tattoo's, hair color, and the lack of hair!
Height, weight, divorced yet posting as single. Separated, kids, etc!

Where are all the threads about likes, and desires? The positive one?
Because we are"hypnotized by televised train wrecks tragedy and pain are paycheck's!

I trouble being around such judgemental people for very long. Their views consume them and everyone around them. Like the plague!

If where I put a period is that big of a deal, I can only imagine how upset you would be if you knew where I put my buggers!

With all the other issues, concerns and requirmenets that is the least of my worries. I would hope that someone doesn't hold that against me as well. In my opinion you can tell when someone is just grammar/spelling challenged or an idiot.

It depends on the sort of mistakes. Small things happen - actual incompetency is different. Like a lot of others, I'd check the profile too, and I'd probably be inclined to give a response as a courtesy, but I doubt it would go anywhere.

If a woman is really, really attractive to me, and turns me on, I'd respond, if I weren't involved. However, I don't know that I would take someone seriously, who consistently butchers the language. In other words, I'd sleep with her, but I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life listening to "he don't, she don't, ain't, etc.."
