| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 2/17/2009 10:49:55 AM | If someone contacted me with alot of mistake in their spelling and such I would think that they are lazy for not double checking it first off and I would think they must think I should make an effort to decode this crap lol. It makes me question how much effort they are putting into finding someone period .
yeah that is a bit too much I will edmit, but its not hard to take quick look over once around the message before you send it I feel when on a dating site or any site that allow people to communicate people should try to double check their work to avoid mistakes. I mean you should put some effort behind this stuff right?
But what erks me more is when people regeritate exactly whats on their profile as if they copied and pasted it. Instead of trying to be original lol but go figure

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 3/10/2009 8:19:01 AM | I would reply as I always do but I´d hint that I wasn´t interested in going on. Whenever I read something written to me I automatically look for mistakes. After correcting so many exams, essays and exercise books, what would you expect?
Although English is not taught here the way it should be (with a focus on Grammar), I still think people should check their spelling. It can be so easily done nowadays! Don´t you agree?

yeah that is a bit too much I will edmit You'll admit it?
I feel when on a dating site or any site that allow people to communicate people should try to double check their work to avoid mistakes. Comments show up on your profile too, so even if someone has a well written profile, you can tell a lot from them from their forum postings.
what erks me more is when people regergitate Yeah, it irks me too when people regurgitate in my presence... at least hit the bathroom and do it into the toilet or something.
But, nah, a few misspellings here and there doesn't bother me, and your grammar is fine... I dated a woman who misspelled things fairly often, but I'm really *not* (contrary to how this post might seem) a "spelling nazi". That being said, I probably wouldn't be interested in someone who "thaut I interstg an maybee dait dinnr possble wit u stake sumtime?" Occasional spelling problems negotiable, inability to form a coherent sentence - not.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 3/22/2009 8:54:07 PM | I think that there is a difference between "bad grammer", and "terrible grammer". I can forgive bad grammer. English is a complicated language, and I have been known to butcher it from time to time. As long as I understand what the sender was trying to say, I'll respond. Noowwwwwwwww ifffffffffz IIIIEYES geztz aaa massage liiiiiiiikey dis on me malebox, EYE deleat it. Either that, or I'll e-mail the sender to ask them if they've failed English. I usually recieve, "Me fail engish? That's unpossible". | |

Not necessarily, it is a proven fact that people identify the words by reading the first letter.
Now for the post: Bad grammar, and poor spelling does not give another person the right to be rude. So please be kind and answer politely, after all they took the time to e-mail you. From then on it is up to you to decide if you should persue a friendship.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 3/23/2009 2:07:53 PM | | I think poor spelling is not a problem at all (save for ambiguous homonyms), but grammar can totally misconvey a thought. Reading internet forums like Yahoo Answers, it seems that almost nobody knows how to use grammar to separate different aspects of the sentence meaning. It seems that these people don't have the patience to either think about how they come across or to listen to the subtlety of another's experience: that's why they seem so disrespecting and limited. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 4/21/2009 4:23:35 PM | | It depends on the person, if English is not their native language, I can understand that. Grammar isn't a big deal, but the spelling definitely gets on my nerve. Being on POF for a while, I notice a lot of people misuse then and than a lot, but that's ok as long as we can get the point across. I don't expect people here to have perfect grammar and spelling because we're not English professors, and we all make these mistakes every once in a while because of negligence and other reasons. | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 4/21/2009 8:19:55 PM | | ha ha ha! Yeah, me too, and you "misspelled" misspelled as misspelt. Hypocrite! The whole lot of you are hypocrites, judging people by their spelling and grammar! I've seen so many spelling and grammar mistakes on this thread that it made me cringe! I have a HUGE pet peeve about spelling and grammar, but I let it slide here because, as someone made a point of in an earlier post, maybe they sucked a$$ in school, but they're actually really smart, just not book smart! Maybe they stayed awake in mathematics and slept in grammar! You could be writing off a millionaire mathematician that can't spell worth a $hit...because he can't spell worth a $hit! C'mon people, cut `em some slack! Geemunnee! | |

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 4/21/2009 8:22:50 PM | | Dang, that showed up in entirely the wrong place...I don't know anything about these forums or how to post this crap. This was supposed to be a reply to a waaaay earlier post. OOPS! I'll cut and paste a quote.... Page 41, MSG 1005, by user pssst "I place a far higher value on people's ability to take the time to spell correctly... misspelt words on forums and in emails are not nearly as high of a priority to me as grammar for spelling challenged people. I also find it petty to constantly harp on others when no one is perfect... " | |

I usually don't get replies as such, because I require a high level of intelligence when I approach someone on here. Likewise, I am not attractive enough for the dumb hot girls to seek me out. But I do chuckle at the ridiculous profiles.

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 4/21/2009 8:47:44 PM | Yeah, me too, and you "misspelled" misspelled as misspelt. Hypocrite! Ummmm....hate to break it to you, but I'm 99% certain you'll find that the past tense of "Misspell" can be "Misspelled" OR "Misspelt":
tr.v. mis·spelled or mis·spelt (-splt), mis·spell·ing, mis·spells To spell incorrectly http://www.thefreedictionary.com/misspelled
Now, maybe one of the gurus on here can elaborate or correct me if I'm wrong, but if you are going to call someone a hypocrite, you might want to be sure of your facts first. Just a thought....

| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 4/21/2009 8:57:46 PM | | I completely agree with you. I get a lot of mispelt words and retarded sentences in my e-mails on another site. It's usually by people who live in place like Algeria or Sudan; mostly Africa. I can't stand talking to those people and I'm not sure why. I find if someone comes into Canada or is already a citizen they should understand they need to learn how to read and write our language-English. We have to in their country. It's a universal language. I think if someone e-mails with so many mistakes, then it could either be someone who is lazy, a child talking, or someone from another culture. I hope this makes sense. | |

1. English is not a universal language. 2. English is not even the most widely spoken language in the world. It is number 2, after Mandarin (on a 2 to 1 ratio, by the way) 3. There are plenty of Canadian born people (and in every other English speaking country) who have very poor reading and writing skills. Some can't read or write English at all. Should they be kicked out of the country for failing to meet your standards? 4. You do not "have to" learn or read or write the language of any country you are in. That is entirely up to you.
I can't stand talking to those people and I'm not sure why. Well I'm guessing it's your lack of tolerance for anyone for whom English is a second language and your discriminatory views on "those" people probably has something to do with it.

Message: well i will check their profile and if it seems to be just a typo and the person otherwise seems "normal" then i don't have a real problem with it.
on the other hand if the mail is generally illiterate and the profile is on a 4th grade level then it will be read/deleted
I agree wholeheartedly with this....if they can't take the time to make sense or they can't make sense it makes me wonder! Wonder if they finished the 2nd grade or for that matter kindergarten. It's a pet peeve of mine to the worst extent. I however am not perfect and at times do make grammatical and spelling errors but, they are usually typos or just not thinking my response through. I simply say 'proof read'! Proof read I say!
