| If someone emails you with misspelled words and bad grammar, do you respond? Posted: 9/4/2009 10:56:49 AM |
And, yet your post is completely coherent and readable, if less than perfect.
I can handle the occasional misspelling, sloppy grammar, or whatnot. What irks me is when people don't even bother to try. I've gotten messages entirely in text speak. That has nothing to do with dyslexia. It's just laziness. Dyslexia doesn't cause you to say "u" instead of "you" or "plz" instead of "please."
In fact, I find the dyslexics and people who speak English as a second language often are far more readable than other folks, because at least they're putting a lot of effort into what they write.
Yes i know it is coherent and readable. But if i had put the original up you may of not got it. But find that if i get some else to read it helps. Also i put the words cannot spell in Google, and 99% it come with right spelling. And into Word which i use to write reply. Well mobile technology has not help with writing much. As it is easy to write u or plz in short form. I don't like text language sometime have no idea what some thing mean and it wrong on some thing like dating site but it does change with genration gaps. Thanks for that.

Even as an Editor, I don't do that. But I'm certainly tempted. Poor spelling does not make a loser out of someone...no more than a beard....smoking....baldness....or whatever else turns someone off. ................ Sometimes it's not the spelling, it's the not caring.... I like the way you put that Knittin Kitten. I am a professional writer also, and have met many people who are very intelligent and good people who cannot spell for beans... one of them being my last editor. Her technical knowledge of the English language was far and away the highest level I have ever had the joy to observe.... but spelling?... nope, it was not exactly her strong point.
I worked next to a man for five years who was an electronics whiz and a technical genius in so many ways.... but his spelling was atrocious.... BUT he used spell check for all of his professional writing. He knew it was a big weakness and used spell check religiously.... but not in his personal correspondence. He figured that those who knew him weren't his friends for his spelling or lack of it.... and he was right.
Do I care so much if a person's spelling is perfect? No, not at all... but I do care if it is "text speak".... that just screams of not caring.

Friends... I can care less if my friends have a 2nd grade reading level. A girl I am dating is different.
Bad grammar (depending on how bad) is almost always an instant turn off for me.

If they say anything about sex including "hi, sexy lady" I read/delete.
Likewise if they seem to think they've stumbled upon some free mail order bride site but are unable to read my profile.
Otherwise I'll at least respond with a thank you.
