| fast, nutritional, and cheap Posted: 9/1/2008 7:06:01 PM | The fastest possible breakfast (and also one that is nutritionally sound)
Handful of dried blueberries Half a container of plain or organic/sugar-free yogurt (watch that fruit filling) Handful of unsalted almonds Several swings of citrus juice Mouthful of wheat germ.
This breakfast takes no time to prepare, just grab from the fridge on the way out the door, fill your shirt pockets with the nuts and berries. You can chug the yogurt from the cup.
This breakfast has all the nutrition (in fact it has the ~primary~ nutrition) your body needs in the morning: Vitamin C, lowfat dairy, and complex carbs. I even added in the almonds for protein. Bonus.

My sister and I could make this poor man's version of French toast which we just called Toast & Syrup. Now, I figure that since bread contains egg, it really is a lower calorie version of French Toast.

I also watch for the meat that gets marked down at places like fred meyers, Albertsons.. Anywere. "Usually" if you get it the day its marked down it still has a sell by date that is a day or two in the future. Ask the people in the meat department when they do their markdowns and make plans to be there as soon as possible.
I also create meals from left overs.. Here is an example.
Wal-mart has cornish game hens 2/$5 in the frozen section. And since I am a single dad that works great for us. I buy them and cook them however I want. We will usually eat a little over one of them in a meal. I take the left over game hen, add some seasonings like bay leaves, garlic, onion, pepper. (fresh is better but the $1 store powders work nice too) and add some veggie or chicken stock.
Simmer for a couple hours, take out the bones and add some fresh veggies and a potatoe, rice or noodles.
You'll spend about $10 total, and get at least 2 meals. You can also strip the meat off the bones and make fried rice.

| 30 second breakfast on the run Posted: 4/29/2009 6:53:20 AM | I made this for my daughter when she was in grade school, 30 years ago:
Slice of whole wheat bread, toasted -spread peanut butter on toast Glass of milk Piece of fruit, apple or banana
I've had it myself many times since.
It's also easy to make an egg sandwich:
Microwave 2 eggs in a Corelle cereal bowl (spray the bowl with Pam, then poke the yolks with a toothpick so they don't explode, cover the bowl with a saucer in case they do anyway). I cook them at 30% power for 3:21 (1200W oven) 2 slices whole wheat bread slide the cooked eggs onto a slice of bread add a slice of cheese and a slice of ham or a couple strips of bacon add miracle whip if you like
enjoy | |

| 30 second breakfast on the run Posted: 4/29/2009 10:37:28 AM | One of my favorite quick breakfasts, is 2 chocolate mini donettes. Fast, filling & only 150 calories! I am trying to lose weight & all the programs I've used (computer diet/nutrition programs) say the it is very important NOT to skip breakfast! Did you know that bacon is only 42 calories a slice according to foodfiles? | |

| Share your Poor Man's Breakfast dishes here Posted: 4/29/2009 2:01:00 PM | | Yeah, it's not that creative, but you know those cup of noodles? I open the cover half way, use the handle of the spoon to poke a hole in the top (The cup isn't full of noodles, it's hollow 'Those basterds!'). Crack an egg or two into the hole, add hot sauce, louisiana hot sauce is the best in my opinion because it's not too hot, and then water until it's just above the noodle line. Microwave a minute or so and stirr up the egg. Add cheese at this point if desired, then a min more. If it needs it keep giving it 30 seconds, but watch it to make sure it doesn't boil over. Happened to me with cheese once and it's really messy. | |

| Share your Poor Man's Breakfast dishes here Posted: 4/29/2009 3:45:10 PM | This is something I came up with trying to copy a few places around here that serve breakfast pizza. This isn't really cheap to make so it might not belong.
breakfast sausage, fried and drained scrambled eggs thinly sliced velvetta or chez whiz pizza dough, pizza dough in tube is ok thinly sliced deli ham bacon hash brown or tater tots shredded cheddar cheese
I buy the pizza dough in tubes, usually 2 is enough to fill my pizza pan. I put a layer of thinly sliced velvetta on the dough. If you want a stronger taste then spread a thin layer of chez whiz instead of velveeta. Scramble the eggs and put on next. Next put the fried sausage. ham next and put the pieces of bacon next. I used prefried store bought bacon. Thawed hash browns or tater tots. i buy the southern hash browns that are about 1/4 inch square in size. put some shredded cheddar on top. bake at 400 for 20mins.
i have no measurements because i use enough to just spread evenly and not to over do any one ingredient.

A couple eggs
Some Velveeta cheese (or whatever cheese you prefer)
Mix the eggs, add the cheese, pop in the microwave for about one to two minutes. Stir the eggs and cheese well, and heat up for another minute or so. Voila.

If you have an apple; peel it dice it and cook it in the water before adding the oats. A little cinnimon and brown sugar and you're good to go.

I remember being in college and as a lot of people know , college students aren't known for being rich(at least if they have money it goes toward books, tuition, rent, beer and the leftovers toward food,lol)..for too long, longer then i wish to remember at least, breakfast ..(any meal really) was interesting variations on Kraft dinner and canned pasta. Basically what did i have in the cupboard to throw into it and make it taste different then yesterday.
amazing how throwing a can of peas into Kraft dinner can make it feel almost gourmet to a college student. ..Lmao!.

You wanted a poor mans breakfast except this one can be healthy as well and wont expand your gut like a full english will. Full english meaning that you get a whole "fry up" of bacon, sausages, tomato, toast and beans.
Its also a low glycemic index food as well and acts like a slow release fertilizer rather than loading you up with sugars and then having to come crashing down an hour and half later
