I smoke and know that I should quit and it is not all that great for my health at times. In saying that, along comes someone celebrating their 100 th birthday who lights up a cig, and sips on their brandy, telling you of all the stories of years gone by. Funny how some people live, and some people don't.
And why is it, that a I, as a 46 year old "smoker" can hike up and down mountains and valleys to my fishy rivers and my younger "non-smoking" fishy partners are huffing and puffing trying to catch up to the "old guy"??? There are enough "new and improved" cancers out there, that I know that if one doesn't get ya, the other will.
Man I gotta quit,,,,something.

starlite,
i agree were talking about smoking.
My point was there are several ways to poison the body. Also "some" are hypocritical about the issue as they poison their bodies in other ways but put down smoking.

I have healthy & active lifestyle, can't stand being around or smelling cigarette smoke, it drives me nuts. I find the majority of smokers, don't consider other people who aren't smoking, and feel its their right to smoke at bus stops. I make a point to move away in the opposite direction of the smoke, and they follow me where I decide to move.

My sister smokes her habit isn't welcome in my place, she's not allowed to smoke on my balcony, must go outside to my enterance and light up. I have a hard time being around smokers, its digusting odor and not to mention what it can do to someone health.

If you're at a bus stop, enclose area by building, holding a child/baby, smoking in a car, should be illegal when its harming others. My province has laws that where introduce in July of this year, its useless, since no law enforcement don't enforce it and smokers know they can do it.

Yup! That bylaw is ridiculous as no one is going to listen.
I feel sorry for children exposed to second hand smoke. I was one of them and constantly sick with allergies and bronchitis.
I hear ya Pucks! Other habits are not good but at least no one else is being exposed to it.
I have a sister that is a nurse and she smokes!! Go figure!

...BUT (yes a but) they

SMOKE ?????

this to me is one of the worst things you can do to yourself .... this is NOT healthy for your body ...

so am i the only one who wonders about this ?
what do you think about this ?

i feel the same way. some of my friends smoke to stay skinny/"healthy." but doesn't this defeit the whole purpose of being healthy?! i think some of my friends are seriously retarded, sometimes... o__O

err...this reminds me exactly of my thoughts regarding diet pop. if you're so concerned w/ your health, then why aren't you drinking milk or juice instead?!

hmmmmmmmm. all those people that are smoking to 'stay skinny?'

...picture 20 or 30 years...barrel chests and oxygen on at less than 3 litres per minute with their COPD because if you turn it up higher you will actually kill them...

...stay healthy everyone!

Well the world is full of contridictions.

I have seen people who go to the gym for hours on end sweating to get the body they want. However they circled the parking lot 20 times to find the spot right next to the door so they don't have to walk. lol

Oh I would'nt just say it's smokers that seem to mislead by saying they have a healthy lifestyle yet smoke.....
I'd be hardpressed to find any profile that really says how it is..
Avg = alot over weight.
A few extra lbs = probably technicly obese.
Lead a healthy lifestyle yet drink like a fish..
Athletic is always a good misleader.......prob 90% of the people on here that claim this physical condition are full of it, quite amusing actually.
Independent yet live in their moms basement......etc etc.......
If someone is active, reasonably fit, makes good choices as to the food they devour etc...I'd consider that a reasonbly healthy lifestyle even though they may indulge in a vice or two.......
It's all about moderation.
You could literally dismiss anyones claims if you wanted to pick apart a profile.
Everything is based on a degree of accuracy which of course is EXTREMELY subjective on a dating site profile, sometimes, downright fiction.
And the quest continues.........

how about this one.... AFTER going to the gym pigging out on junk food and eating tons of heavy laden high fat, high carbohydrate foods as opposed to replishing your protein stores.
my ex husband used to bug me all the time and say to me after going to the gym...
"so dear, how many grams of fat did you loose today?" after he sees me porking out on crap junk food!
grrrrrrrrr! used to make me mad but now think it's kinda funny and u know what i still do it.
Never said i was a saint in any shape or form.

Ok, I think that leading a physically and mentally well-balanced life is the ideal way to live a healthy life style.
But first at all you need to discover what works for you and what doesn't. You need to accept that certain things are beyond your control and there is little point in knocking yourself out about them...
Everything should be done in moderation – eating, working, resting, playing ,socializing, and so on...

Here are a few healthy living tips-I try them to work for me. Maybe they will work for you...

1. Don't take on more work or personal responsibilities than you can realistically handle.
2. Do what you love. The money will usually follow.
3. Try to be less materialistic and keep your life simple.
4. You should sleep for at least eight hours every night. A siesta in the afternoon, if possible, is also a good idea and certainly refreshing for your brain.
5. Control your mind. What you think and how you think affects your general well-being. Refuse to entertain negative or self-derogatory thoughts and emotions. This will require practice, especially if you have fallen into the habit of seeing the glass half-empty.
6. Cultivate your spiritual side. You don't have to turn religious and burn candles at public altars, but keeping in touch with your intuition and your inner self is important.
7. Go for comfort over fashion any day.
8. Eat well and healthy. Learn to cook well. Try new recipes. Make meals interesting and fun.
9. Exercise regularly. Do Yoga. Exercise your eyes regularly, especially if you spend a lot of time in front of the computer. If you have to run errands around the neighborhood, walk or cycle around. Walk up stairways instead of taking the lift.
10. Maintain a good social life. Take an interest in other people and help without expecting anything in return whenever possible.
11. Be honest, ethical, polite, and sincere. Don't flatter anyone unless you mean it and don't ever lie.
12. Read books, magazines, newspapers. Be aware of what is going on around you, locally, nationally, and internationally. Try to learn at least one thing new every day.
13. Don't take yourself too seriously. Learn to laugh at yourself.
14. Don't indulge in malicious gossip.
15. Pay attention to the thing that you're doing at any given moment, and do it well.

Ok,its a smoke time now-works for me!

I'll add one more to Simona's list.

Look in the mirror twice a day, and make sure you can honestly say that you like the person you see.
