No, and here's why:
N - non A - athletic S - sport C - centered A - around R - rednecks
'nuff said
Don’t you just love someone who bashes something with such a comment that shows their own general ignorance? Perhaps they’re trying to be “funny” or ‘cute” or honestly think they’re hilarious but wanna bet they’re just as fanatical about something themselves? Oh well----being a jerk knows no gender lines just as being dumb doesn’t---it’s just one of those things!
It is so narrow minded to be so judgemental of anyone just because they are a "Fan" of any sport, hobby, etc.
Well, as much a long time NASCAR fan as I am----even driven a bit for an under-funded team long ago-----personally I hate my hometown college football team---with a huge passion. What really chaps my arse are the “fans” who want to eat, sleep and procreate with the single thought “the team” will do well this year---if not then it’s a time for mourning because how can “we” be fulfilled if “the team” doesn’t “go all the way” ??? We can’t escape it here---EVERY DAY on the news there is some update or tidbit about what’s going on with “the team”. When the “fans” start booking trips to the national title game after the very first week of the season you know someone doesn’t have all their priorities right. My dislike towards the fair weather fans is so great I have it in my profile if you’re addicted to that team then please don’t contact me----it’s literally exhausting listening to it constantly here.
My point being if you’re not into something yet it consumes someone else chances are it will become an issue at some point. The amount of money and time some “fans” devote to their devotion can also become an issue if/when it begins to affect other things. There is always a fine line between enjoying something immensely and being too devoted so we need only find someone who has our same level of appreciation for our sport of choice.
Another humorous thing---over the years I’ve dated a few women who at first told me: I HATE NASCAR---it’s just stupid cars driving in circles.........”. One side note---somehow Indianapolis wasn’t stupid?!?! LOL Anyway...........these women ranged from office workers all the way to a bona fide college professor in “the arts” but since we were dating I’d invite them to Michigan Speedway since it was a one day trip up and back if desired. Sometimes we’d go the day before, get a nice room, visit the track for a bit to let them get an idea about it all. It was so easy to see how their excitement seemed to grow as the command to start engines came closer—they were eagerly anticipating the whole thing. Once they heard 43 full-prepped and ready-to-roll cars the look in their eyes was unmistakable---they were hooked! LOL Back then with no restrictor plates you could stand near the front stretch wall/fence while the draft roared by----that look once again!
On the trip home the chattering about why this, how does this work, can we go again conversation was evident what they’d just seen wasn’t as terrible as they’d assumed. While SOME of the fans might have been a bit rowdy they were always friendly, outgoing and willing to argue about their favorite driver in only the best of ways. These women were pleasantly surprised by their experience so NASCAR gained a few new fans.
Who cares if someone doesn’t like NASCAR-----they’re obviously dumb and uncouth! LOL

| Would you date a NASCAR fan? Posted: 12/22/2007 10:40:21 AM | I am not a Nascar fan, but I have a friend who is a huge Nascar fan--Jeff Gordon in particular. She also is a big Dallas Cowboy fan, but she said when it came to it that was just football. She said the really important date was February 17, 2008 and I asked, why? Well, duh, the Daytona 500. She said that as a single mom she would probably never get to go.
It's not often that you get the opportunity to make somebody's dream come true, so for Christmas I gave her 3 tickets to the next Daytona 500. She was in absolute shock (her reaction was priceless). I gave her 3 tickets so she could take a friend as well as her 9 year old son, but the irony is that her son does not want to go because he thinks that racing is boring. But she will get to go to the 50th running of the Daytona 500 and will remember it for the rest of her life. It makes me smile just to think of it.

| Would you date a NASCAR fan? Posted: 12/22/2007 10:58:21 AM | what I find funny is that those who wont date NASCAR fans think they are ignornat and uneducated, by not opening themselves up to a person who is a racing fan, they themsleves are showing their own ignorance.
If they bothered to learn about it, they'd realiize most creew chiefs have Masters degree's and I believe read a demographic that said over 70% of Nascar fans have at least some college background.. too bad for them. My buddy and I are both NASCAR fans, I am an IT Engineer and he is an eye Surgeon... not exactly tobacco chewing rednecks.

I read your profile title and my friend is also a classic country music fan. I was going to just give her a dvd, but when I thought of her dream to go to Daytona and the fact that she has not had a good year. Her father died this year and last summer her 3 year relationship with a guy she thought she was going to marry broke up. He is a member of a local country band and he cheated on her with one of the band's groupies. So I wanted to do something for her that would be a good memory. I never would have guessed that her son was not a Nascar fan and I thought that he might like a side trip to Disney World, but now she has another ticket.

| Would you date a NASCAR fan? Posted: 12/22/2007 12:03:00 PM | krimiariver,
What a great gift you gave! And for anyone that would make a snap judgment on someone because they enjoyed a specific sport (or call it what you want.....), well that's not the person for me.
I got involved with Nascar about five years ago and I can't wait for February to roll around. My love for the sport comes from learning what I can about it.
I'd love to get involved with other racing avenues, but you can't fully enjoy it unless you KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
So for you nay sayers, calling us fans rednecks and what not..... POOIE on you.
If you don't know what you're talking about, keep your pie hole shut. And if you DO and still want to make a judgment, keep your pie hole shut.
lol
jk..... comments encouraged....
Merry Christmas all! BOOGITY BOOGITY!!!

Thank you, but I must confess that I used to be one of those people who made snap judgments based upon things such as being Nascar fans or liking country music. I met my friend for whom I bought the Daytona 500 tickets a year ago and not only did I learn that she was a Nascar fan (I always thought "cars going around in circles") and a country music fan (I disliked country the way only a tried and true rock and roll fan can), she was also a smoker (I don't smoke) and she can swear like a sailor (which I never really liked in a woman). She was also not somebody that I would find instantly attractive. But she is perhaps the most delightful woman I have ever met, one whom I admire greatly and she has forever changed my life and I no longer judge people over superficial things. Even though smoking is not superficial, it is something she does and it does not define her as a person. There is nothing I could tell her about the evils of smoking that she does not already know, so I accept her in spite of her imperfections.
Concerning the Daytona tickets, she did consider her son's father who also is a huge Nascar fan and always wanted to go to Daytona and his birthday is just a week after the race. This in spite of the fact that he has caused her trouble in her life, but it shows what kind of a person she is that she would think of him. She works hard to provide her son with as good a life as she can and she is a great mother. It is an honor for me to be able to help one of her dreams come true, especially in a year which has not been good for her with her father dying.
We both understand our relationship. I am old enough to be her father, although if we were seen together nobody would mistake me for her father (funny, this is the first time for me that my age was like a glass of cold water thrown in my face). When I met her she had a boyfriend of several years although that relationship has ended after he cheated on her, which she considers the unforgivable sin. She is still not totally over him because she told me that if, even now, he asked her to marry him that she would say "yes".
My friend set me up with one of her best friends this past year, but it did not work out. Her friend did tell me that she thinks very highly of me, but as I said, we both understand the parameters of our relationship. She knows that anything I have done for her or given to her is unconditional with no strings attached (most of which have been small things, but thoughtful). She has given a lot to me and helped to change how I view people and that is worth a lot. It would have been my loss never to have met her. I know I'll never judge anybody again for being a Nascar fan or a country music fan.

| Would you date a NASCAR fan? Posted: 12/22/2007 4:20:35 PM | I wouldn't EXCLUDE the NASCAR fan, but I would mind if he spent every race day watching the race to the exclusion of all else.
I dated a guy once who had to be glued to the TV every sunday for Nascar ....there was prerace, race, postrace . . . there was no talking during the race, nothing . .. just a bunch of left turns.
He was obsessive. Never would I date another one like that . . . but I won't not date a guy just because he is a NASCAR fan.

I've dated guys in the past that are not into the sport tho and either they'll watch a couple races with me and love it or I kinda lose track of it because he's not into it. But I've never had a guy turn away me as a person because of it.

| Would you date a NASCAR fan? Posted: 1/3/2008 9:34:29 PM | I'm not good with telling one type of automobile from another let alone knowing the difference between types of car racing. (Don't have a licence, never learned to drive, therefore my repetoire consists of: red, blue, yellow, white, taxi, truck etc.)
But I wouldn't tell the guy to move on because the guy I dated who did road rally racing on a motorbike also went to Daytona. He told me (25 years ago what that was about) but I've long forgotten.
[My best friend from childhood showed up in a Rolls-Royce for a re-union and I said "gee, this sure is comfortable isn't it? Why are these seats so different?" -- so a NASCAR guy may not want anything to do with me but that's a different post altogether.]
The thing is that unless I could go somewhere else in Florida and walk on the beach, collect sea shells, and generally be a tourist I wouldn't want to go because I was not interested. And what I'm not interested in I ignore...totally...to the point of a complete lack of knowledge.
He wanted someone who shared his interest, and I figured in that case he should go with the guys like a fishing or hunting trip. So we only dated on and off between relationships although that went on for about a decade.
