Posted: 7/27/2008 5:38:37 PM | Date a NASCAR fan? I would love to but finding one in Buffalo Bills country is almost impossible.
I used to think NASCAR was a blue collar, red neck sport especially when I was a media buyer and tv stations would offer NASCAR sponsorships for my clients. I had no interest in ever watching it on tv, but I became hooked when I attended a race at Lowes in '05. Watching a race live is thunderous, exciting and an event I can't wait to see again.
And, yes, I could be one of those crazy Kasey Kahne obsessed ladies in the Allstate commercials.  | |

Posted: 7/27/2008 6:01:02 PM | I have found that most people whoa re into NASCAR have some type of closed minded thinking. They can't grasp any other type of racing except maybe 1/4 mile.
I like rally, ama, moto gp, f1, free lance, amatuer.
I've dated two girls that were hardcore NASCAR fans and honestly their families didn't like me because I wasn't the norm.
I won't subject myself to that ever again. | |

Posted: 7/27/2008 6:20:12 PM | I don't want to say that I would NEVER date a nascar fan (okay, with that out of the way), BUT:
I don't think we would have very much in common. NASCAR is mind-numbingly boring to me. The cars are low technology compared to other forms of car racing. Another poster mentioned something along the lines of "nascar isn't boring, the cars go 188mph." Well, Indy Cars regularly exceed 200 mph by leaps and bounds. Top Fuel dragsters go faster than some airplanes. THAT'S exciting. 188mph going in a circle...not so much.
I just don't see how it would work out. I can't sit and watch cars go 'round and 'round for 2 or 3 hours or however long the races take. So, she'd be sitting in front of the tube all weekend and I would be out LIVING life. Watching nascar, to me, is synonymous with watching paint dry. Given that comparison...I'd rather watch paint dry any day.
To me, the world is FULL of wonderful, enriching, and stimulating ways to spend time. Nascar is none of the three. Its just boring. | |

Rally is one of the ultimate platforms for that followed by most other track road races. | |

Posted: 7/27/2008 7:18:42 PM | I used to love NASCAR. Then restrictor plates came. A Dodge/Ford with a extended pointy nose, bad. Chev with extended pointy nose good. Great cars were neutered. Engine/carburators combos played with. Ad nausem. The car of the future? Gimme a break!
Once upon a time the best fastest car/driver won. That hasn't happened in NASCAR for decades. It is the WWE of motorsports. Now the cars are so dumbed down, there are no good battles between drivers anymore, just a 40 vehicle pack droning around in a continuous neverending clump. (yawn). Petty/Pearson/Yarborough/Allison/Parsons had great two and three car battles. This is now garbage.
I don't care if a lady is a NASCAR fan, I'll sit and watch for the noise and amusement. I'll do everything I can to make her life enjoyable.
But it's not racing anymore, it's advertising. | |

people put stuff in the profiles because it's an entre' to meeting someone who has at least some common interests, or at least someone who can tolerate yours.
if you really have your heart set on someone who loathes and despises something that's a big part of your life, don't you think you might have some unrealistic expectations right out of the gate? alternatively, you would have to have enough OTHER interests and compatibility to override the NASCAR disparity. which is certainly possible. | |

revolved around collecting moths than hook up with a guy that abhorred NASCAR.
It's not my LIFE, but on Sundays I want to at least hear as much of the race as I can.
The restrictor plates have ruined the visual for me, so I'm relegated to the radio and the
fora the announcers bring to it.
Fookin' Goodyear tires are gonna be the life of a driver soon if they don't change 'em up....
So if you're looking for excitement, get into the sport now before France drops them as a sponsor.
I swear that company must be suckin' something to be able to hang on for as long as they have.....  $$$$ Talks!!!
Anyhoo, to each their own and C'MON BIFF!! Let's get a win in this season buddy!!

I grew up around racing all my life and enjoy all motor sports. I've loved
racing back when it was Stock Car and Richard Petty was King! Before
it was ever called Nascar. I do try and attend races when I can and also
watch it on the TV big screen at home and follow it closely , so yes I'd
date a Nascar fan and I'd take him along with me to a race if he wanted to
go and also have him over for Sunday afternoon lunch and to watch the
race with me if he so wanted too! I find the sport of racing fun and thrill
for speed so exciting too and it's even more better when you have someone
to share it with.

As for NASCAR it seems to get the most ignorant and ruthless attacks of any sport. I'm not going to argue the definition of "sport" but if a person is going to call golf a "sport" then auto racing is most certainly a sport. Not to knock golf as I like to play (but not watch) that as well. However I can guarantee auto racing (most types) takes a lot more physical ability than golf does.
Motor sports are my favorite type of sports and I'll watch a NASCAR race now and then as well. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of choice it seems televised motor sports have been reduced mostly to just NASCAR and F1. I remember when I was a kid there used to be virtually every type of racing under the sun on TV. Hell I would watch it all. World of Outlaws, Trans-Am, Drag Racing, CART, rally racing, motorcycle racing, Speed GT, monster trucks, mud racing, tractor pulls, etc... Its mostly all gone now. You'd think there would be MORE racing coverage these days with all the high tech TV systems and hundreds of channels... not so.
Anyway NASCAR has a lot of rediculous stereotypes attached to it. The uneducated, ignorant, tobacco chewing inbred hick...etc. I find it highly ironic that the attacks come from highly ignorant people who are uneducated about racing and cars/mechanical stuff in general. People who have no interest what so ever about learning or understanding anything about it. The uneducated, ignorant, unintelligent stereotype is so hypocritical considering the people it comes from.
Anyway... yeah I wouldn't mind dating a girl who is a NASCAR fan. On the other hand if a girl wouldn't want to date me because I like to watch the odd race now and then well I wouldn't want anything to do with a **** like that anyway. I'd be watching a bunch of other types of racing too if they were still on TV with some regular appearance.
P.S. I forgot to mention. It seems widely acceptable to bash NASCAR. I must say I very rarely hear NASCAR fans bashing other sports of any type. They generally carry more respect than that. Generally speaking of course on averages. Although I've yet to meet one, I'm sure there are a few people out there who think NASCAR is the only sport and anything else is "gay" or a "waste of time." Sounds rediculous? Well in my experience it is not so uncommon for say a hockey or a football fan to talk that way. | |

The poster above me made alot of good points.
It just amaze's me how shallow and narrow minded and just plain dumb people can be, to not date some one becuase of interest in a sport is about one of the dumbest things I have heard on here.

If there were more alternatives available around me, I'd be spending my free time at Wow races, motorcycle racers, Speed GT!!, rally racing, CART, Drag Racing.... Even with the deaths it brings.... mud racing, tractor pulls... YES, tractor pulls! LOL!!
Racing is racing and if you understand the idea behind and around it, the excitement begins!!
If a person had no understanding of golf or baseball, most would find THAT uber boring.
But it's the love of the game, born of KNOWLEDGE for the sport that makes it exciting!!
Ya wanna teach me what surrounds a sport I'm not interested in just so I can watch it with you? C'mon! But I'm not sure you'll find one that I don't already love and watch!!!  | |
