| Electronic Music Posted: 5/24/2009 9:41:54 AM | electronic music is great but the DJ culture currently surrounding it is whack... endless talentless generic DJs get more respect than the people who create the beats they play out, and the unoriginal derivative forgettable music in scores of sub-genres that could all be labeled as 'techno' only appeal to drugged out party goers who would dance to anything with a 4/4 kick or predictable repitition. retarded. that being said there are some great producers and live acts out there playing in the 'breakcore' scene - hard shredded DIY beats are where its at. but its pretty much a sausage fest. | |

| Electronic Music Posted: 6/17/2009 6:03:43 PM | I like them all except for Happy Hardcore...
Anyone here likes Deadmau5?
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/17/2009 7:19:54 PM | deadmau5 is great.
i'm a lover of psytrance. i could listen to infected mushroom for hours.
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/17/2009 9:12:08 PM | | Deadmau5? I don't think Joel has released a single track that was relevant since 2007. But hey, thats just my opinion. As of now, I am really into liquid DnB, deep house, and glitchy electro house. | |

I agree with this 100%. Just about everyone is a DJ. All you need are some $1 tunes from Itunes and CDJs and you are now a DJ. Funny. Show some of these kids vinyl and they have no clue what it is. I get asked all the time, "is that a lazer disc?" Doh!
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/18/2009 2:22:47 PM | Too many sub genres and they all sound the same at the end of the day. I agree with the person who said it's basically just drivel now, any retard can be a DJ and everyone seems to think they are a DJ. Try creating music with real beats instead of the same repetitive nonsense with annoying noises like sirens over top of the drums. I honestly don't see how people don't get bored with it, it's not that interesting of music and especially where I live, more people would rather mosh to a good loud band then bounce around like a bunch of drunken morons to some unemployed hack attempting to call himself a musician. Being a DJ doesn't make you a musician, DJ stands for disc jockey, you play music, not perform or write it so get off the stage and leave it to the real artists | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/18/2009 2:39:09 PM | | Well I love drum and bass, but for the life of me, I'll never understand how a room or even a stadium of people can worship a DJ, just total lack of entertainment value, nothin but a selectah.... | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/21/2009 11:55:27 AM | | I think Electronic Music, or "Techno" as many prefer to simply call it, had the opportunity to really take over in the late 90's, but it somehow failed to father enough momentum. Perhaps a lot of people just weren't ready for it yet? I dunno. What I do know is that Techno IS the future of music. Classical had its time. Country had its time. Rock had its time. Rap had its time. Techno will eventually have its time! | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/21/2009 10:14:20 PM | | DEADMAU5 for the win, but I"m really getting into Gang Gang Dance,Crystal Castles, Underworld and some other groups. I agree with post above...EDM will have it's time to shine...but it's been shining in my world since I was born lol. | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/22/2009 8:28:11 AM | there's a lot of good posts and ideas in this thread.
I've been getting more into dubstep too, pretty cool that some other people have mentioned it as well.
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 6/22/2009 8:44:21 PM | Deadmau5 is good. However, Kaskade is the best in my humble opinion. I've also fallen in love with a Norwegian Electronic band called "Cloud". They have some really chill stuff.
Anybody get down to Tiesto or BT?

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/6/2009 4:50:02 PM | I was going to create a post like this as an intro to myself. As my handle suggests, I'm a DJ, based out of Toronto, and I spin various forms of underground dance music, namely house/tech/tribal/electro/techno. I do a weekly live internet radio show every Thursday from 7-9PM EST on www.kick106.co.uk.
I have several mixes available to be downloaded online, the most recent being my first recording incorporating mixing using 4 decks (intense!!!!), which is going to be my standard from here out (once you go 4 decks, you never go back ).
I'd love to meet more people with as much love for the music as I do, especially those in Toronto, so feel free to give me a shout.
For more information regarding my music career, and to check out some of my mixes, look up my Facebook page under "DJ Ryan King" for more details.
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/7/2009 4:10:48 PM | | Ack, I just was warned for posting a link to my radio show page on my profile, as it's considered spam. I don't want to get nailed for another infraction for my above mentioned post (although since it's a forum, hopefully it's acceptable). Anyone know if that's going to get me in trouble? If a moderator sees that, and wants to take it down, they can, but hopefully you won't consider it another infraction and remove my profile. | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/7/2009 7:32:53 PM | | It depends. I'm really a fan of E.S. Posthumus. They're not pure electronica, but they do mix it in with a bit of classical and ambient. | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/11/2009 3:49:05 PM | I find it pretty comical that people use the "it all sounds the same" argument when talking about electronic music. Seriously, you need to get out more.
Some of my favs -Neu - Cluster - Gridlock - Jega (Geometry is an amazing album) - Autechre - Burial - Box Cutter - Skinny Puppy - Cabaret Voltaire - Felix Leband - Mouse on Mars - Amon Tobin - Bola - Coil

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/12/2009 7:36:24 AM | I used to really love it. However, what disturbs me about the music is that it has stagnatied. I'm still hearing the same stuff that I heard ten years ago in college. I would also disagree with a previous poster the Called the Drum and Bass and Jungle the same thing. Jungle has a slightly different tempo, and break on beat line, whereas, Drum and Bass, is an agressive, urban feel to it.
And Jazz also has a lot of sub-genres too.
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/12/2009 1:24:33 PM | Rock has a ton of sub-genres as well.
I'm finding the most interesting stuff happening in 'electronic' music is the stuff mixing in with acoustic and electric instruments.
At the moment I'm continually fascinated by early use electronics, tape loops, and synthesis from the likes Neu, Cluster, This Heat, Bruce Haack, Klaus Schultze, Raymond Scott, and Wendy Carlos.

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/13/2009 5:42:20 PM | i dont want to stir the pot here, but am i the only person that thinks electronic music (ie stuff produced on a computer) is the only form or music that is truly talentless. there is no need to spend hours learning an instrument to get the sounds required, and no sence of tone, melody or rhythm. its all done for you. im all for open mindedness when it comes to accepting that everyone like something different, but what i would like to see are more people creating music thru dedication and perseverence. dance, trance and all those other off-casts never produce anything truly memorable. if you take a list of the best music ever produced, you will be pretty far down the list before you come to something electric. and dont think this is me having a go and saying that electric music should be band, far from it. i am simply saying when are people going to break the status quo with electic music and use intruments ( and not just sampling) because it can be done. | |

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/14/2009 9:13:36 AM | I'm suprised no-one's mentioned Jean-Michel Jarre or Vangelis yet? Surely these two are pioneers in electronic music and set the bar high for today's contempories. Jarre's sound-scapes are truly magical, especially his early stuff from the 1970's and 80's like Oxygene, Equinoxe and Zoolook.
Other worthy mentions should go to Delia Derbyshire, The Radiophonic Workshop, Jaque Perry, and Joe Meek all mathmatical engineers that turned their knowhow into the art of music and sounds.
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/14/2009 12:04:25 PM | I real fun electronic band from the 80s which is back is Information Society! They toured a little last year and I saw them in Seattle WA (amaaazing!) Their recent album is rock'n and fun! | |

You probably are, as it is a very misinformed point of view. A significant amount of talent goes into making electronic music. You may have the aid of computer but you're still composing, producing, arranging, and mixing music. None of which would be considering a fiduciary cast off of the music making process. Playing a musical instrument isn't that complicated. It's the ability to create, compose, and perform that makes you talented. Any kid can pick up a guitar. No shortage of 17 year-olds conquering the Metallica catalog either. You're also under the impression that the guy in his basement playing making Trance music has never picked up a guitar or sat down to a drum kit before.
i am simply saying when are people going to break the status quo with electic music and use intruments ( and not just sampling) because it can be done.
You probably mean "electronic music" since anything using an electric guitar would be considered "electric music." Also, that's how electronic music started and it's only in some parts that electric and acoustic instruments are absent. Early electronic music comes from three general areas: Prog-Rock, classical music, and underground dance clubs.
You shouldn't be so judgmental about something you obviously no next to nothing about.

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/18/2009 2:31:55 AM | | Kraftwerk is the godfathes of electronica and I love their music. | |
|
| Electronic Music Posted: 10/18/2009 5:50:03 AM | I write and produce my own music. But I found when putting my tunes on various websites they ask what genre it is. I put 'electronic' as my main one..but to tell the truth i'm not really sure that I like to catagorise it as they are just 'my creations'. But I think electronic music is pretty good...I do like something a bit different though so if it is also experimental..even better!
Give me the prodg anyday!!-)

| Electronic Music Posted: 10/18/2009 11:24:25 AM | Just got my hands on tiesto's new album "Kaleidoscope"
Absolutely loving it! Recommend at least checking out "I will be here" off the album. Not normally a big fan of sneaky sound system but the lyrics are great and as usual the synth arrangement is top notch.
